He makes the point about players must sacrifice, it seemed worse than what boxers are supposed to do!
December 2, 20196 yr Inter go on top of the ladder in the Serie A. https://sempreinter.com/2019/12/01/inter-coach-antonio-conte-has-won-12-out-of-the-first-14-games-setting-a-new-inter-record/

A bit sh*t from Sarri's perspective though, particularly if he doesn't win the league this season.

December 3, 20196 yr Inter are going to win Serie A. Sarri's best bet is going to be the cup which I'd probably favor Napoli to win tbh.
January 11, 20206 yr Lukaku seems to be hitting form at Inter and here's a BBC article talking about Lukaku this season together with Conte saying he wanted to bring him to Chelsea yet of course he went to Utd. Conte is talking about coaching him on movement to be in the best position to score. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51052156

The odd good touch and certainly strong one on one with a defender.
January 11, 20206 yr @Strider6003 Contrast to the Napoli game where he and Martinez were electric. His first goal in that game was a stunner. Again shows the difference between the PL and Serie A. I'm glad to see Conte doing well. They have a very good squad at Inter. They are a good chance of going all the way.

Agree on that goal, I thought a very confident and well executed finish.
January 14, 20206 yr Conte wins the unfair dismissal case against us. The club is to pay him £85,000 in compensation.

Thinking of the 160m we wasted that window. What a team we might have built with him at the helm. Instead we got Sarriball, which was exactly what the fans who hated Conte wanted, until it amusingly turned out to very similar to Sufferball they all carried on about.

It's a real shame particularly as I was not a fan of Sarri from the beginning. Conte had the potential to transform the club after a fantastic first season with us, but the summer of 2017 was the beginning of the end for him due to a very poor transfer window. The 2017/2018 season is considered a poor one yet we still won the FA Cup at the end of it so it wasn't all bad.

But I agree Conte was a great manager and with an improved squad could have had us competing with Liverpool and City now.

I'm fascinated between the Serie A contest this year to see who comes out on top. Notice Lazio have picked up and taken points off both Juve and Inter. I think our players learnt a lot from Sarri tactically even though he was only here one season.

I don't disagree that missing CL football had an adverse impact on our finances but with six genuine contenders competing for top 4 spots, there was always going to be two disappointed clubs at the end of it. The most disappointing aspect of the season was not only Conte being the shadow of what he was in the first season, but the amount of wasted money spent on transfers in Summer 2017. We talk about 2015 Summer window being poor, but this was the poorest transfer window I can recall in years. Caballero = Good back-up goalkeeper to Courtois and later Kepa. Rudiger = Solid addition to the first team and a good replacement to JT. Bakayoko = Disaster. Morata = Showed glimpses, but ultimately a failed signing and could not replicate what Costa did in prior seasons. Zappacosta = Decent squad player, but nothing special. Drinkwater = 35m spent on a player who hasn't been in the plans of three different managers (i.e. Conte, Sarri and Lampard). Even our winter 2018 transfer business wasn't great either with the signings of Barkley, Emerson and Giroud. How much Conte was involved in all these signings is unclear, but it's disappointing nonetheless that we couldn't build on from our title winning success of 16/17. Hopefully the club has adopted more cautious approach under Frank and will only make signings if they can see it will be a clear upgrade to what we have at the moment. The emergence of several academy players has shown the club that it isn't necessary to spend huge amounts in order to compete with the big clubs.

Re Conte, this makes it so interesting at Inter, I think unless he strengthens they might finish third. Now if he does strengthen who will make the player decisions? Re Barkley - 40 appearances including subs and 7 goals, a decent return on the outlay of £15m, although I know we all hoped for more.
January 15, 20206 yr Hazard is quoted as saying a bit about Conte and Sarri The main point being, they were more - rigid and repetitive. https://www.football365.com/news/hazard-explains-why-he-was-less-happy-under-two-chelsea-coaches

Would have never worked because Conte is awful in the market, no matter how good you are tactically you always have a shelf life if you can't recruit well. Inter will likely be another big boom before a huge fall given his signings and reported targets.

I think his targets and signings at Inter (which include one of the players he had "forced on him" that season) shows he was a lot more involved in that window than people like to admit. Infact Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella says that the heirachy wanted youth movement similar to what we're seeing now but Conte wouldn't have it and insisted we used the market instead. January 15, 20206 yr The club ended paying to Don Conte and his staff over £26m in total. A sad ending, looking back how it was him vs the club for almost a full season and then his sacking after the FA cup victory...the whole thing really looks as if our club was a person that had this passionate lover and everything was so tense and exciting and full of sparks at first and then their passion turned into hate and the relationship crashed and burned. Don Conte is like a real ex now.
