July 11, 201610 yr According to Di Marzio Napoli are going to meet with Everton this week to get the deal done. Laughable if they pip us to his signature. Why would it be laughable?
July 11, 201610 yr Why would it be laughable? Because people want an excuse to be angry with the club. One minute I'm reading posts about fans not wanting us to sign certain players based on their price tags (Pogba, Morata) but then you read posts about people getting angry if targets go elsewhere for more money. So where's the middle ground?

One minute I'm reading posts about fans not wanting us to sign certain players based on their price tags (Pogba, Morata) but then you read posts about people getting angry if targets go elsewhere for more money. So where's the middle ground? You've put it a lot more politely than I was going to. If you deem a player worth X, you shouldn't pay more than X just because a "lesser" side are willing to.

July 11, 201610 yr Wrong information. http://gianlucadimarzio.com/news-cat/napoli-domani-incontro-con-lagente-di-pereyra/ " blue leadership working to organize around mid-week meetings with Everton, to talk about a possible sale of the defender. " But google translate maybe wrong... I dont know

One minute I'm reading posts about fans not wanting us to sign certain players based on their price tags (Pogba, Morata) but then you read posts about people getting angry if targets go elsewhere for more money. So where's the middle ground? It's not that at all. Koulibaly is proven and was one of the best CBs in the Serie A last season. He has potential to be world class. He fills a need. In today's market he's worth a lot more than what we're bidding. Look at the prices of Bailley, Otamendi, Mangala and potentially John Stones. CBs aren't cheap, so I don't understand why we're taking the low ball approach to sign one of the best available CBs on the market. In contrast, Morata was a backup striker for Mandzukic and has done nothing to justify his quoted fee. When has a club ever paid 65m quid for such an unproven striker? It's unprecedented territory, so of course people are going to be skeptical when we flirt with making such a move. They're two completely different circumstances so you're going to get two completely different views. I think you could've figured that out for yourself if you wanted to but it seems you're just looking for an excuse to attack other posters.
July 12, 201610 yr Seeing as I've been posting on this forum for over three years now I'm more than familiar with the fickle nature of our fans who post here and there's most certainly a fair few who are extremely hard to please, especially when it comes to transfer dealings. A player is only worth what a club are willing to pay for them. If we've got a summer budget of £150 for arguments sake there comes a point when during negotiations when you've got to walk away because if you eat too far into that budget it'll mean there's not enough left to strengthen over areas of the squad, especially if the selling clubs all decide to play hard ball. £40m offered for a central defender isn't exactly pocket change. He's not the only defender out there and I'm putting my faith in the club not to repeat the same mistakes of last summer which was mainly to drag out negotiations too long and leaving no time to recruit other targets.

No, it's not pocket change, but unfortunately that price represents the state of an inflated market. If you think we're going to nail some diamond in the rough signing then I wish I had your confidence, but after the debacle we had last summer window, I can't help but feel a little uncertain. I also wouldn't consider it to be fickle to lose confidence in the board when it has been a long time coming. We have made some questionable decisions in relation to buying, selling and even loaning of late, so it's not as though people have erratic in terms of their support for the board. We had two great windows under Jose but since then we have been diabolical. But again, I'm glad you have confidence in the board. Not everyone does though and they have a right to express their concern, especially when you consider the nightmare season we just endured.
July 13, 201610 yr according to ES, Napoli wants 60 mill euro for himunless he's our only target to fill CB position, i say its time to turn away (if this is true ofc)http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2016/7/12/12158266/kalidou-koulibaly-chelsea-everton-napoli-demands-60m
July 13, 201610 yr Let Conte first evaluate the CBs we already have: JT, Cahill, Brana, Zouma coming back from the injury, Papy, Miazga and the promising youngsters from last season: Aina, Clarke-Salter, Tomori... No sense in speding 50+m on a defender if it's not absolutely necessary. Edited July 13, 201610 yr by undertow
July 13, 201610 yr Everyone on the market is overpriced though Not everyone. Lucas Digne went for £13.8mil. Samuel Umtiti went for £21mil. Crazy bargains given the prices we'd be quoted
July 13, 201610 yr Not everyone. Lucas Digne went for £13.8mil. Samuel Umtiti went for £21mil. Crazy bargains given the prices we'd be quoted Maybe I should have said for English clubs, seems to prices been quoted to EPL clubs is a lot.
July 13, 201610 yr Maybe I should have said for English clubs, seems to prices been quoted to EPL clubs is a lot. Totally, I was just making the point that we think the market is inflated but it is only for EPL clubs. Shows how we're perceived by other clubs/leagues.
July 13, 201610 yr Pjanic also went to Juve for under £25m I think. Foreign clubs know there is too much money in the PL and will fleece us. Thing is it isn't only a foreign problem but also an internal one. Hypothetically how much would a Rashford/Alli cost after a season in the PL considering Stones is valued at about £50m. Personally I feel we need to start developing our own youth players.

Not to start a massive rant within this thread but don't you think that's why young British players aren't wanted or valued by foreign teams. Gareth Bale is probably the exception but he wasn't 'young' when he went to Real.
July 13, 201610 yr 60m? What? Tomori, Clarke-Salter, Papy. Let's just test them, 60m for a defender, world went crazy.
July 14, 201610 yr Premier league cash injection -> Foreign teams charge 3x as much for a player -> Spend money on three new players instead of just the one replacement for previously sold player -> Players then wanted in BPL within a few years for mass profit -> Repeat. This premier league deal seems to benefit other leagues more than it is benefiting us.
July 14, 201610 yr As the old saying goes, when everybody has Money, nobody has Money. Foreign teams know PL teams have a ton of cash so naturally the asking price will be higher then usual
