July 14, 201610 yr Premier league cash injection -> Foreign teams charge 3x as much for a player -> Spend money on three new players instead of just the one replacement for previously sold player -> Players then wanted in BPL within a few years for mass profit -> Repeat. This premier league deal seems to benefit other leagues more than it is benefiting us. Summed it up perfectly RIP.
July 14, 201610 yr Probably get ridiculed again, but we bough Papy for 4 mln EUR, he has excelled in Ligue 1 and in the Bundesliga. Maybe just give him a shot, instead of throwing cash wherever?
July 14, 201610 yr Wouldnt mind giving him a shot. Ill be 100% honest and say the only reason I have been ridiculing him is becuse he was a last minute signing for a small fee and had a silly name. I have no idea if he can actually play. The whole "Mourinho didnt want him hence he is rubbish" argument isnt what it used to be.
July 14, 201610 yr "I have been ridiculing him because he [...] had a silly name." a.k.a. 'Hilario syndrome'

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure he could do an okay job similar to Cahill level but if we were to try anyone out i'd rather it be Tomori, JCS possibly Aina etc..
July 14, 201610 yr Don't get me wrong, i'm sure he could do an okay job similar to Cahill level but if we were to try anyone out i'd rather it be Tomori, JCS possibly Aina etc.. The overall argument stands: Why purchase Morata or Gabigol when we have Traore and Solanke? Why purchase CBs for tens of millions when we have top footballing prospects? Other teams are promoting their youth and this hasn't hurt them, so why can't we? Especially since supposedly we have one of the best youth development squads in Europe?
July 23, 20169 yr i would never understand why the board would play around in signing a CB which is definitely our top priority
July 24, 20169 yr i would never understand why the board would play around in signing a CB which is definitely our top priorityNot for over 50 million pounds. That's foolish money paid only in Manchester for a center back.
July 24, 20169 yr I don't know. If you were buying the next John Terry at say when he was 23 he'd be worth 50 in today's money
July 24, 20169 yr Not for over 50 million pounds. That's foolish money paid only in Manchester for a center back. i understand, but i just think that the board took so long in securing a CB unlike how they did with Michy and Kante. now look what happens, Koulibaly is rumoured to stay, Mustafi is unlikely to leave now that Valencia has sold Gomes, and Benatia went to Juve on the other hand, we are rumoured to be targeting Lukaku/Morata, both of whom are valued over 50m, all this when buying a striker is clearly less urgent than buying a CB this is why i feel that the board is playing around
July 24, 20169 yr Not for over 50 million pounds. That's foolish money paid only in Manchester for a center back. You're right, that amount is crazy, but the beginning on the season is fast approaching and we have still not sorted out the area that cost us so badly last season. We can't line up with the same back 4 this season after what happened last season.
July 24, 20169 yr I wonder if the board are now thinking that they should have just stumped up the £38-40m for Stones that Everton wanted last year given we could be shelling out £45m+ on this guy. Edited July 24, 20169 yr by JM7
July 24, 20169 yr We bid 44.5 million for Stones last year if i remember correctly. They were just not going to sell i think.
July 25, 20169 yr Rumours were that they wouldn't sell to Jose. He seemed to have insulted Kenwright/Martinez so they dug their heels in.
July 25, 20169 yr Well he will be going for whatever Everton sell Stones for. It's going to end up costing more than the fee we were willing to pay last season. If it's a bidding war I can see Everton coming out on top.
July 25, 20169 yr "On Monday, Koulibaly’s agent has spoken with Radio Crc, as reported by Calcio Mercato , and confirmed that the Senegal defender has failed to agree a new Napoli contract. Agent Bruno Satin said: “I was in Dimaro on Saturday and we discussed a contract renewal however, we are not at the point of reaching an agreement. The desire of the player is to leave the club, not renew.” Satin adds: “We are told by the club that he is a great player but from the renewal on offer, we don’t see this. With a current deal until June 2019, Satin stated that; Last year they wanted to sell him stating he was not focused enough but then last season he has shown all his quality. To the fans I say stay calm because he won’t be joining Juventus, Chelsea and Everton are still interested as they are both searching for a central defender of his quality.”
July 25, 20169 yr Well he will be going for whatever Everton sell Stones for. It's going to end up costing more than the fee we were willing to pay last season. If it's a bidding war I can see Everton coming out on top. Really?.
July 25, 20169 yr Really?. They have come into money and will be getting around £50 million for Stones so they will have loads to play with. We are looking for 4 players if the media are to be believed, I don't think we are going to be paying £50 odd million on one player and we know Italian clubs and especially Napoli tend to bleed clubs dry with their valuations.
July 25, 20169 yr Although they have plenty of money it ultimately comes down to the player. If you had Chelsea or Everton coming in for you, London or Liverpool, I think almost every player would opt for Chelsea. The fact is we're a European powerhouse and Everton are.. Well Everton..

Everton won't be paying 50 million. Italian journalists are reporting he would be offered to clubs so his club can get the best fee possible and I don't think they would set the price at £50mil.

How can you say what Everton won't be spending when it's highly likely Stones is going to City for that sort of money plus their owner is a billionaire?
