(iii) Given that its voted on by the players themselves in what sense can it be maintained that the media play a big role in Kante getting the award? All those media brainwashed players is it?

What is with this day and age and supporting players, instead of clubs, have people become that stupid? Totally agree, I can understand admiring a player can lead to you supporting the club they play for but to actually follow a player from club to club is strange.

I'm not denying that the media played a role, I'd agree with that. From what I've heard from pro players in the past though, they definitely care about being voted the best by their peers, I remember our past winners saying as much.

Oh dear. Yes it is the least credibale award, it's an award that is usually won by the player who is in the best form from January to March, Bale won it by not doing much first half of the season then hitting top form at the right time, Rooney won it in 2010 ahead of Drogba mainly because Rooney had the media backing and Lampard has never even won it once, everyone with any sense knows it's stupid to give out an award before the season has finished. I think it was Martin Keown who spoke about how players had no interest in voting, some would just tell Keown to fill their form out for them, others would just refuse to vote for a player from a rival club, and you really think it's a credible award? Of course when you get told your fellow professionals voted for you of course you will feel proud but the reality is most of your fellow professionals don't really care about it and will just vote for whoever is the flavour of the month. and yes the media do play a big role in it, in case you didn't know most footballers don't watch much football, not as much as most fans do anyway, for most people watching football is there was from switching off from the real world, for footballers when they have time off most like to spend time with their famiiies and switch off from football. The only way Kante was going to win the POTY award ahead of the best player in the PL was by getting the medias backing and he got that, everyday on Skysports news they were hyping Kante up like he was some sort of footballing god, it was very amusing at the time, literally everyday they were saying things like Kante makes everyone around him better, Kante is the reason why Chelsea are top, Kante is the reason why hazard is back to his best, Kante is Chelsea's most important player, Kante is better than Makelele. This was happening everyday and players will have seen that everyday as skysports news is on all the time at clubs training grounds, also I'm sure players read newspapers and have social media as well and listen to talksport, everywhere you turned during those months all the good results and performances were down to two people according to the media Conte and Kante. I still want those by the way. And if you're going to keep banging on about credibility try & get the spelling right otherwise it drags your total conjecture even lower, if that's possible. I guess you feel that Terry & all the others who've won it over the years are mugs for prizing it above all other awards too eh? Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the reason that Frank never won it is that he didn't garner enough votes from his fellow professionals in order to win it? You rely on Keown - ie. one footballer's opinion only and then go on to conjecture that his opinion must be the be all. Is that the same Keown who, having dissed the award, wrote glowingly of Kante being fully deserving of getting the award this year? And footballers - don't watch much footy eh? What complete bollocks. But according to you - all they do everyday (apparently like you) is watch Sky Sports (with their families of course) - so that must be it...like lambs to slaughter for all these those footballers & Sky: must have been murmuring "Kante, Kante, Kante....I must vote Kante" in their sleep. Hilarious.

When you can actually counter any of the points I made we can continue but until then have a read of the article here, it may give you a better understanding of how little you know, but of course you will try to descredit it and twist it just like you done with my post. April 25, 20179 yr He was on a different level tonight. I know it's become a running joke that he's always first to every ball in the middle of the park, and that he basically covers the entire pitch, but tonight he genuinely was. There were a few things added to his game which either I had not noticed or weren't present previously, such as that consistent switch to Alonso, as well as the aggressive shoulder barges he was dishing out. I wonder if this ridiculous performance was due to a extra layer of confidence added by his award, or if Conte himself told him to leave it all out on the field... of course a player such as Kanté would take such an instruction literally. Bravo to him.

It's an NBA thing. I find it weird too, but in NBA culture it seems perfectly acceptable to follow a player across their career and remain neutral to their teams. I suspect this was really a post-Jordan thing. Few sports have had an athlete that transcends the sport itself, and Jordan was a brand separate to the NBA at times. It's not that different to cheering on rival players during international football, if you're into that sort of thing.
