Herrera is terribly overrated. I'd rather have Drinkwater than him. There's nothing between them and Drinkwater is English.

Herrera got way overhyped during a terrible two years for United. their fans got blinded by his effort because everything else was completely dull. You get enough fans melting over a player and suddenly pundits and other fans assume they must be missing something so blindly join in. He's bang average.

I like them both. Either one would do for me alongside Kante.

Oke, once and for all, can we just stop the DD bashing ? The guy is a good player, do you really think someone like Toni Kroos is about to join CFC ? For a 4th choice midfielder he can do a decent job, and he fits a 3-5-2 system.

It's not so much Drinkwater bashing as yeah he's a half decent player .... for Leicester, but why we paying £30-40 mil for a bench warmer. Might as well pay less for Barkley who's younger and injured who won't be demanding playing time as he will be recovering. Adds to English quota and depth ... just injured lol

When was the last time Barkley played as a DM?

Not really, city have has fantastic players, a much better squad than we won the CL with but they can't get anywhere near the latter stages, there is something about a club, not even just a team, a club, that gives it European pedigree, us and Utd are the only teams in England that have it in recent history, I actually think we will go far in the CL, my issue was conte setting up in the 343 against high press teams and getting demolished in teh mid field but he showed against the spuds he is capable of tactics that will shut a team down.

That may have been born out of necessity but I think since it worked so well he will employ it in big games. That team with Morata and Bako properly up to speed, Hazard back, cesc on the bench, is going to be very very hard to beat, the reason, fir me, that we do so well in Europe is we have great players and we are a big club but we aren't too proud to sit back and absorb pressure, city wont do it, arsenal wont do it and thats why they don't do well in Europe, back to PSG they wont do that either, which means they have to outplay, Barca, Real and Bayern, and thats near impossible.

Those points are all arguable. When we won the CL everyone else said that we didn't deserve it. The CL is more than just what's on paper.

But when we already have Kante and Bakayoko in that DM role and no attacking midfielders why would you want Barkley as a DM he has shown he can play as a CAM or a Winger. More like Lampard in his early days with the pace to move upfront and get in the box. (Just not the winger bit)

Plus we've played Fabregas next to Kante plenty of times and that's just shown our weakness, keep Bakayoko and Kante fit and strengthen our creative play more. Barkley is 23 you've got years to mild him, Drinkwater is 27-28 would it really be worth it ?

We already have ONLY Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Musonda and Cesc (who is far better suited for the attacking mid role than a DM role).

So we basically have ONLY Kante and Bakayoko, yet people want Barkley instead of drinkwater.

Exactly, playing cesc along with Kante has shown our weakness. So basically if even one of Kante/Baka gets a long term injury or are unavailable, we are down to Cesc and no one else. So again, what sense does it make to buy Barkley who is a bang average 23 years old rather than a PL winner (dont forget Kante's partner in crime and Kante must have a great understanding with him).

So what if Drinkwater is a PL winner! Man United won a PL and CL with Anderson in their midfield and he was terrible! Like I said Drinkwater is a good player for Leicester but I would of rather see Luiz get pushed into the midfield like Benitez did to him and us get another defender than have Drinkwater.

But if it's literally just in the case of cover Dave would be better there like Lahm for Munich. I personally think Barkley and Ox would be good buys both 23 and obviously talented just need work. And both would be cheaper than £40 mil drinkwater and longer term. Or buy or promote 3 English youth players for the English quota and buy an actual decent midfielder like N'Zonzi. DM and a tank

Drinkwater is not a young anderson though, is he? He is a well settled proven PL player, last time i checked. Also, instead of solving the actual problem, we want square peg in round holes. You want us to remove our best defender and play him as a DM.

Quality wise Drinkwater is a better DM getting Barkley is an AM (a bang average 23 year old player who makes Ben arfa look consistent). Also add to it the fact that we already have a young and mega talented AM within our ranks (Musonda).

I agree Nzonzi would be a decent buy too. But to say lets buy Barkley instead of a player we actually need is a bit weird considering how much we need a CM rather than an overrated AM, who by the way is injured and hardly solves our issue of "depth".

Don't get me wrong I would love to see Musonda play because he is a great youth player, and would also love for Chelsea to be able to get a decent back up player for DM, I wouldn't honestly want Luiz in the midfield either but like against Spurs I'm saying if he had to he could.

I would actually like to see us add players to our defence as apart from Alonso, Luiz and Dave I don't feel the rest are at the same level.

But would rather they spend £25 mil on a average player for back up than waste £40 mil on a back up. Buy another LWB and push Alonso in the centre if needed. When we had players like Baker, LRC and Chalobah as options there just seems wrong buying a 28 year old for £40 for back up. Barkley was just a personal preference as I feel he will get better.

Mega talentet Musonda who can`t get a regular place in a team like Real Betis ....

With his physics i just don`t see him in England. There is a plenty of young talents, but just a few of them became top players.

Kakuta was the same hyped as Musonda and people often cry he need a chance and blq, blq, blq, and in the end he turn to be damn average player.

Drinkwater have just 1 good season in his career. And last season he was terrible. He is not even worth 10m.

Our board with their action make his price so much. They waited and waited and waited ... And we lost so much good players on the way, and they decide to focus on a guy like Drinkwater and even give 30m. for him ....

It was 1000000 times better to simply not sell Matic. But they was probably thinking, 40m. for Matic, and we will get Drinkwater for 15, there you go 25m. profit ....

I've done a bit of (very) shallow analysis on the squad

Leaving out players who aren't realistically likely to get many first team minutes (Eduardo, Scott, Kennedy, Tomori), counting players only once and only (perhaps Musonda and Boga aside) in their preferred positions (and main formation), i've got the following.....

GK:    Courtious/Caballero
CBL:    Cahill
CBC:    Luiz/Christiansen
RCB:    Azpilicueta/Rudiger
LWB:    Alonso
RWB:    Moses
CM:    Kante
CM:    Bakayoko/Fabregas
RW/F:    Pedro/Willian
LW/F:    Hazard/Boga/Musonda
CF:    Morata/Batshuayi

In central defense we look pretty decent. There is enough depth there without too many players who won't see battle.

The front 3 (depending on how decent Boga/Musonda turn out to be) look kind of ok depth wise but ideally we'd like another striker that would actually push Morata for a starting spot. I really want Batshuayi to come good, and while it's unlikely, it's possible Conte might get something out of a fit Remy. So probably good enough for depth but could do with another real quality player.

The problem is in central midfield and wing backs. I like the players who are there, Bakayoko looks promising and could be wonderful alongside Kante. But with an injury to either, we are in a fair bit of trouble. We need at least one real good quality player who can like for like replace an injured Bakayoko or Kante. Fabregas is a wonderful option, but he's not really the centre mid workhorse we need in the tougher games.

In wing backs, again, our starters have been good, but the depth is deeply lacking. If Moses is injured, suddenly we have Azpilicueta or Rudiger playing out of position, but worse, if Alonso goes down, it's maybe Kennedy or an extremely out of place Azpilicueta. We need depth in both wing back slots badly.

So yeah, we desperately need a new energetic Centre Mid and some depth at minimum LWB but maybe RWB too. After that, it would be nice if we got some real, genuine quality in the front 3 to start or sparing that, push Morata for his starting spot.

2 more at absolute minimum, 3-4 if possible.

You mean, you've only known about him for one year. The fact you think he was terrible last season says it all, he was pretty much the only player performing up until his injury. After which his form dropped as he was playing with problems for the rest of the season. Hence him constantly withdrawing or the club making him unavailable for England despite Southgate wanting him.

Our players in terms of quality in order were and are Kante > Mahrez > Vardy > Drinkwater > Kasper..... the rest some way behind. He's a veryh good player, without watching him week in week out the stats would show you as much if you compare his all round contribution compared to most.

Championship CM's get sold to the premier league for £10m. To suggest effectively the fourth best player in our team that won the title somehow costs the same as Jeff Hendricks did a season ago is laughable.

Your owner has pumped in billions, is there any season particularly why you are now worried about an extra £15m?

Cause I'm fed up of seeing the club shelling out millions on the like of Rahman, Cuadrado, Salah, Ba, Torres, Zhirkov, Veron, Mutu, Djiobodji, Hector, Benayoun, Marin, Atsu, Luis, Boulahrouz, Falcao and Wright-Phillips when other clubs like Ac Milan and Juve sign players like Rodriguez and Matuidi for £18 million and Chelsea are set shelling out £40 mil for Drinkwater. Irl he is worth £15 it's just the market this year is a joke! Promote 3 English youth players then if we gonna spend £40 on a back up player might as well spend it on a real talent. Kante cost £32 do you really think Drinkwater is worth more ?
