May 16, 20197 yr We should sell all the old loan army. It's time we give these guys a new lease on life. They will never make it at Chelsea FC
September 3, 20196 yr Loaned again, this time to Rio Ave from Portugal, and getting a one year extension of his contract. Also a loan for fellow perennial loanee Danilo Pantic, according to the club's website. Are there no buyers for these players, or is there a clear (although not to me) policy behind this? I think we view it as a means of supplementing our income. We paid relatively small transfer fees for a lot of the players on loan. If the entirety of their wages is being paid by the loaning clubs then whatever loan fees we get for them very quickly turn into profit. I would imagine someone like Piazon has repaid his £5m transfer fee twice over (if not more) by this point and it's more money than we'd make from a permanent sale.

If I were a player getting loaned year after year to different clubs, it would drive me crazy. Still, it's a well-paid living, I suppose.
September 3, 20196 yr I always assumed these players stuck around out of the belief that if they waited long enough we’d eventually appoint a manager that actually rated them. A bit like how Conte (temporarily) made Victor Moses into a proper first team player.
September 3, 20196 yr My thought was always the loan army had something to do with FFP... if we stockpile players we can sell off when we need to we can go all in some year in the transfer market. As long as the loan army holds value, could we not sell it off one year to maintain a net zero on a larger transfer?
September 6, 20196 yr Please just sell this guy. At this rate he'll be a 30yr old who's been with us the longest yet never to have played a role in the team.
January 14, 20215 yr Our longest serving player of 9 years Sir Lucas Piazon has finally moved on to another club. His contribution of missing a penalty against Villa which would made the end scoreline 9-0, making a new record, will not be forgotten. Farewell to a legend.
