City have a buy back option, can’t see us getting him

Just read their buy back isn't active until summer 2024.

So if we want him we need to get him this summer.

Remains a top target apparently. With Shields on board and Saints going down you would imagine we work out a deal.

Lavia and Santos would be exciting but still far too young to rely on them for our aspirations.

I'd like to have them both in the squad, tie down Kante for 2 years, and then get a Ugarte/Rice/Caicedo to pair with Enzo.

There's a couple of their players i would quite like tbh.

If that is our aim for Lavia, he defo won't be coming here. He joined Southampton for first team football which he got, so he isn't going to settle for a squad/back-up role. He will go to a team who will give him minutes. He is ready now.

Apparently Pochettino wants Kante to play as our CDM.

He's 19 and his only major contribution so far in his career is contribute to Saints being the worst team in the league. Obviously not his fault but inexperience probably played a huge factor.

We can't have him partner Enzo and expect both to flourish.

Saw that. Made me chuckle.

But he has comfortable been their best player along with JWP. It defo comes down to not having the quality all round over the pitch. Wingers not good enough. Strikers not good enough. Defence not good enough. Lavia was an exception. If we get another DM before we get Lavia, Lavia won't join. I am sure.

JWP would star for us. All those goals from free kicks and a quality corner taker as well.

Lavia

Enzo

Madueke

JWP

Mudryk

Beautiful 👏

He's also been incredibly inconsistent and doesn't have any stand out metrics. He's still very raw and has a lot of development to do. Just like Santos. We've been successful so far in selling players this 'project' so I wouldn't be surprised if Lavia follows suit.

From what I have seen we need an established/experienced holding midfielder along side Enzo.

Yeah might be interesting

Only thing interesting is why the bloke who wrote that article thinks its 2016 and still believes Kante is a holding midfielder.

Joe Shields brought him to City, then to Southampton.

He has apparently been in talks with Pochettino that he believes our 4 central midfield options should be Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia and Santos.

Some less than reliable sources have stated we are in contact with Saints about re-signing, and then loaning back to them, Tino Livramento and have been given permission to discuss personal terms with Lavia.

I’d go into next season with those four CMs. All willing to put their foot in

Rumour mill is in full swing!

Chelsea hijack Liverpool deal as Romeo Lavia offer submitted - sources
Chelsea are now plotting a full-scale hijack of Liverpool’s pursuit of Southampton star Romeo Lavia, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues have set their sights on a move for the 19-year-old as talks over a deal for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, 21, have hit a stumbling block.

It has been widely reported that Chelsea have seen a third bid, which is believed to be worth around £80million, rejected by the Seagulls.

The Londoners could now abandon their move for the Ecuador international to prioritise a deal for Lavia.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Chelsea can bid closer to Southampton’s £50million asking price than Liverpool have.

The Merseysiders have seen a bid of £34million plus £4million in add-ons rejected by the Championship club.

Liverpool have held extensive talks over a deal for the Belgium international this summer as they look to replace high-profile duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Football Insider first revealed Chelsea’s interest in Lavia back in March – alongside Arsenal and Man United, as well as former club Man City.

City will be entitled to 20% of any fee received for his services and hold a £40million buy-back option which becomes active next summer (2024).

The 19-year-old, whose contract at Southampton runs until June 2027, turned out 34 times across all competitions last season.

I'd genuinely be quite happy to see us bid 52m. Worst case he ends up going to Liverpool but for more than they wanted to pay.

The great unknown in an age when any dolt can afford an ISP.  Present company excepted, obvs.

My understanding was that we were always interested in signing TWO DM's.  We were actively pursuing two midfield players all along.  One being that bloke at that club - we dare not speak his name, but a seer said he saw a squawking seagull over the A23 - and that Romeo Lavia was always a player we were after.  We shall see.

Ugarte was our first choice.  PSG offered him the money.   Personally i always thought we should buy Leandro Paredes, who is one of the 3 DMs at PSG now. Get him for a fairly cheap price and he has "experience" and he is older than 25.

Ben Jacobs is saying we will come in for Lavia but the player is already set on Liverpool.

Hope so, not that I'm a great judge of talent but I don't think he's all that anyway - but then maybe I'm still traumatized by Bakayoko.
