Romeo Lavia

Liverpool agreed a few for him now and I think he ends up there, could be good for us but happy if this is the eventual scenario that plays out.

If this is done, we don't need to buy another CM/DM for the next 5-6 seasons, and still have a few more for loan or sell. Just need to be patient with these guys, they are all around 21 and barely played 2 full seasons at the top level.

Signing him would be overkill though, we already have Santos & Ugochukwu who can cover both roles. I’d rather use the money to buy a player who carries a threat in the final 3rd and can compete with Nkunku.

Yeah at £60m. Seems both clubs ended up overpaying for their targets which is fair.

Haven't really seen him play. Is he significantly better than what we have now?

No. Good potential but City being unwilling to use their £40m buy-back clause, despite having no backup for Rodri, says a lot I think.

The interest in Lavia from bigger clubs imho mainly shows that there's very few great defensive midfielders on the market.

Pretty sure it was reported City's buy-back clause is effective in 2024 not now so think that point isn't in contention.

Thanks mate.

Yeah, that seems to be the case given he fees for Rice and Caicedo.

Good player but probably not needed anymore realistically.

But, if we was to trump Liverpool again to this signing it would probably be worth it just for the anger from Liverpool and the wider football world.

Let’s not forget we got zero sympathy from other fans or a lot of the media when we was being sanctioned, with many hoping we would miss the new owners takeover deadline that was imposed on us.

Sorry but surely we don’t need this signing , another defensive midfielder we still need goals in this team , our transfer strategy is a bit weird 12 defensive midfielders and 7 left backs and - forward 😂😂

From the updated Times article on Caicedo.

Chelsea retain an interest in signing the 19-year-old midfielder Roméo Lavia from Southampton. Both Chelsea and Liverpool have had bids for Lavia rejected. Liverpool had been willing to go to £60 million but the player is understood to have indicated a desire to move to Stamford Bridge.

Lavia is close to Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent, Joe Shields, who was the driving force in Southampton signing him from Manchester City last summer. Shields moved to Southampton as head of senior recruitment last summer after years at City as academy scouting manager, but was poached by Chelsea in October.

Think there is more legs to this, I completely forgot but Fabrizio reported we bid 50m at the end of last summer transfer window so we've clearly been tracking him a while...the bonus of lpool tears can never be understimated either 😄. Tbf the below lineup looks spicy.

              Sanchez

James   Disase   Colwill  Chilly

          Lavia       Caicedo

Sterling       Enzo       Mudryk

                 Jackson

It is interesting that these young players are preferring Chelsea over Liverpool. There's the London/South East thing I suppose but maybe there's a feeling that we're beginning a new period, with opportunities for young guys whereas Klopp is coming to the end of his time at Liverpool and it looks like they're patching things up until they do introduce a new manager.

I’ll definitely take him. I can understand people saying we don’t need him but to compete against Man City we need top quality depth and Lavia is top quality.

Better sign him now and our midfield is sorted for a decade.

NO!!! WE CANNOT ALLOW HIM TO JOIN LIVERPOOL!!!!!!!

we cannot allow them to do the whole: Lavia is going to be better than Caicedo bullsh*t

we need to get him as well and be ruthless

we need to finish what we started and put their whole fanbase into mourning

60 million is expensive but Liverpool fans crying is priceless

We've  pissed all over loserpool by hijacking their hijack of Caicedo and making them overpay for their first choice Lavia. Now their fans will always look at Lavia as the second choice and Lavia will see pool as the scammers who preferred to sign Caicedo instead of him.

but i rate Lavia

he's very talented

I would like liverpool to end up with some washed 3rd rate 25yr old+ DM

If we sign him as well, that gives us:

Enzo, Caicedo (presumably), Lavia, Gallagher, Santos, Chukwuemeka

Assuming that Ugochukwa or whatever his name is goes on loan.

So presumably those first 3 would be the first choice midfield./ With Gallagher being a rotation option and Santos getting the odd appearance here and there. Not sure where it leaves Chukquemeka though.

Gallagher will likely be sold. I doubt we can afford not to.

I can't decide if that's a good idea or not. Last season I wouldn't have minded. He has clear deficiencies in his game. But he was pretty good as a ball winner against Liverpool, and he wants to be here.
