I'd say Santos is a better player on what we've seen.Horses for courses I think. If Alonso plays his preferred 3-4-2-1 then Santos might be a player that would have to be shoehorned into the team a bit like Enzo has since he’s been here. A fit Lavia (I know!) is a bit more like a Xhaka type player in my eyes. His passing is definitely better than Santos I’d say.Looking forward to hearing what Alonso says….

Thursday at 18:004 days He was excellent under Maresca's first season but last season was underwhelming. You do have to wonder if whether the pile up of injuries has now affected his ability.

In fact I wonder if its all got into his head now ths restricting from really committing to being first in winning the ball.
Thursday at 21:394 days Rumour from a few weeks back about Monaco offering 25mill euros for him back again. Not sure that would clear his book value. His time with us has been a disaster for all parties though, might just have to take the loss and move on.

Though perhaps the profit on Santos, pure profit on Trev and George, will allow them to accept it and move on. Though his wages are one of the lowest right? Maybe that means shifting him is not a priority?
Friday at 07:263 days Its a real shame he is made of biscuits, I think talent wise hs probably the best midfielder weve had for ages, when he was fit and match sharp (those 2 games) he was outstanding, and exactly what we need to play alongside Caicedo. As a partnership that would take some beating and would give us an outstanding basis to build on.Unfortunately hes now stuck in an "Get injured - return from injury - start getting match fit - get injured" cycle. Now hes not the first player to have this at a young age, but its been so extensive and so many different injuries I dont think his body will ever recover. It looks like its his hamstrings that are the main issue, but then that obviously causes other muscle injuries due to dependency, its almost impossible to get out off all that without surgery and full rest, and he will never be afforded that opportunity at a top club who demand value from players.I hate seeing the abuse he gets, hes not let anyone down, this is a young player battling through a broken body that will be destroying him mentally, all he wants to do is play football but cant. Its a real shame empathy has pretty much deserted football now. Edited Friday at 07:263 days by dkw

Its a real shame empathy has pretty much deserted football now.I kind of hope he could go to Italy, perhaps on a year loan, where the weather is warmer for longer, there is more room on the pitch, its less intense in the middle of the park and he can get a string of games under his belt to develop his fitness and resilience. With our relationship with Milan (which hopefully isn't now shot with the departure of the entire sporting backroom) it would be a really good opportunity, i think if Lavia could hook up with Amorim for a season and then we can see what we have got at the end of that period.I'm with you, he is a cracking player and cannot help the constraints of his body. But we have to do something commercially and at a sporting level that is best for him and also for Alonso's squad

My point is that in the case of Lavia it’s quite likely that we have already accounted for loss
Friday at 09:293 days Lavia is absolutely quality. Lavia is also perennially injured. Real shame we can’t put him on a pay as you play contract.
Friday at 10:273 days Reminds me of when Arsenal used to have Abou Diaby. Unreal player for the 5 games a season they got out of him.
Friday at 10:413 days Has he been spotted on the training ground in any of the recent photos, or is he still in the treatment room ?

Barco hasn't even been announced yet, so no idea if he's sticking around or they intend to loan him back to Strasbourg. Not sure what we are doing, and its annoying.

Lavia cannot help our midfield issues, he cannot even complete 90 minutes.
