August 9, 20232 yr Mental. Caicedo apparently getting close, and now this bid for Lavia. Maybe the Nkunku injury pushed Pochettino into thinking 433 short term, Caicedo, Lavia, Enzo. Never a dull moment, just hope its Caicedo and Lavia, not Caicedo or Lavia! Not sure where that leaves Tyler Adams though too.
August 9, 20232 yr I'm not even gonna bother guessing what's happening this window 😂 if we got Lavia and Caicedo I'd be buzzing.
August 9, 20232 yr romano calling a bid about 8% above liverpool but does anyone outside of those negotiating actually know the facts.

Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia, Carney, Gallagher, Santos.
August 9, 20232 yr At least we could easily match Southampton's demands, surprised it took this long given we made next to no progress on Caicedo for months. If Brighton signed Lavia, we will be paying for 120M for him in 12-18 months, so may as well get this done and leave Brighton with an unhappy star player.
August 9, 20232 yr Hope this and the Caicedo deal get done quickly and we can move on to our final pieces of the jigsaw

If he is good enough to start for Liverpool, he is more than good enough to start for us. Always felt the Ugochukwu and Tyler money should have been used to buy Lavia. In an ideal world we would buy both Lavia and Caicedo and play a mid 3 in some games, we wouldn’t get away with a mid 2 against the big sides.

I'm assuming everyone just expected Liverpool to stump up the cash. That he hasn't had given us the opening. I expect we move away from Adams. 48m is a weird one to go in at, maybe it's just the opener to then discuss payment terms at 50/52. I'd love to be on the inside in these transfer deals.

Think the issue with Lavia is that he is a bit of an attacking liability; great defensively and can move the ball through the midfield well on the dribble but his passing leaves a lot to be desired. Big clubs, who face 90% of teams defending deep against them, can ill-afford a player who is essentially a passenger in attack. I can't see City/Guardiola ever wanting a player like that. Caicedo is a similarly good defender but also couples that with excellent attacking ability. He is not a liability in possession or when he is the furthest midfielder forward. From a Chelsea perspective, this is ideal because teams can't just focus on marking Enzo out of the game. Liverpool could be ideal for Lavia though, as he will get time and freedom to develop, and more than anything they need a defensive shield for Alexander-Arnold. Lavia is particularly good at dropping wide to close down wingers. Edited August 10, 20232 yr by SydneyChelsea
August 10, 20232 yr Lavia, Adams and Caicedo triple doesn't make sense if we are playing 2 deep. The other player is then Enzo or Gallagher, the other one of the formerly mentioned. I feel, as we just about low-balled Southampton, we are making Brighton nervous bidding a player in a similar position and on top of that we are probably going to make Liverpool pay more for Lavia. 2 birds one stone type of thing.

That is seemingly confirmed this week and so we've stepped in. Lavia + Caicedo was always our first choice. Now it appears like we might get them both.
August 10, 20232 yr I think it is designed to unsettle both Caicedo and Brighton, or to focus their mind that there are viable alternatives.

Yeah I was expecting we wouldve moved for him with joe shields being pretty influential so far in our transfer strategy, but dropping £23m on Ugochukwu made me think that it was over. A lot of money to spend on another 19 year old dm. I like how powerful this midfield will be if we pull it off.
August 10, 20232 yr It will be very very funny if we sign both Lavia and Caicedo. As a few others have said, I wonder if this means we're thinking of doing with a 4-3-3. It would be nice to give Mudryk a run of games wide left without worry too much about his defensive contribution. This would also help James and Chilwell get more involved in the play. James, Silva, Colwill, Chilly Caicedo, Lavia, Enzo Sterling, Jackson, Mudryk Something like this? Maybe Lavia out for a number 10 against weaker teams?
August 10, 20232 yr Bidding for Lavia does potentially two things: Liverpool end up paying full price, Brighton grow concerned with unhappy Caicedo. Messing with Lpool is a bonus and landing Caicedo is the target.

August 10, 20232 yr Can’t see it being caicedo and Lavia although I’m all for it, think this is just a move to put Brighton under some pressure

Will be interesting to see which one would be 'sitting', Caicedo or Lavia. If true this does spell the end for Gallagher imo. keep - Enzo, Caicedo, Lavia, Adams, Santos, Carney loan - Ugochukwu sell - Gallagher
