That's because Xhaka is a deep-lying playmaker; Enzo isn't.

Xhaka has a high level of intelligence in playing that deep and picking out the right pass. Enzo doesn't, not unless he has acres of time and space, which he gets none of in the Premier League.

He also doesn't play that deep for Argentina anymore. MacAllister and Paredes do. Scaloni tried playing Enzo against Spain as the deep-lying playmaker; Spain took advantage of it by pressing him all half, forcing Scaloni to bring on Paredes in the second half.

It's not a great situation for us at this point in the window. Does Xabi still want to keep him? Does he already have plans of where he'd play him. Are the other options better or worse in Xabi's eyes? Are those players available? At the same time is Enzo adamant he wants out? Is it going to be more of an issue going forward if we cant sell him. Will he be committed to the cause come the end of the window if he's still here? Or is it just his agent looking for a pay day?

Like Ive said before the grass ain't always greener, still a chance the likes of Wharton is not for sale this late in the window (teams are now putting out deadlines). Wouldn't put it past us panicking and ending up with another young 'talent' like this Camera fellow we've been linked with. While I also wasn't crazy about Jorginho and his single-dimension play style, he kinda won me over once he f**king won a CL.

Yeah I did watch a lot of games; Brazil was barely watchable, not to mention that we, from the south, are a bit outside the beaten CBF/Brazil path, so we're usually less Brazil fans.

If I take your post alone, it implies Enzo isn't good at passing; if I take most posts on this thread, the only conclusion one can have is that he does not do anything right. The simpler explanation is that some of you are wrong and that a €100m+ player does indeed do some things right.

Football is a team sport and Argentina had a lot of tactical issues which hindered them as real contenders IMO. I'd say they overachieved in that World Cup, and some of that can be attributed to Enzo — like it or not, he came up with some key moments. Argentina were also in pretty bad shape physically by the final after several high-intensity games, including extra time, often while chasing a goal. That's all history now.

My point is that nobody knows how he'll fit into City's system. He might fit really well, he might not. Maresca seems to think he'll fit well, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he did.

I truly hate this take.

Winning isn't a "single metric" to me — it's the whole point of the exercise. Everything else is basically storytelling around whether what you did helped you win.

Players do different things on the pitch, so I'm not sure why we'd pretend there's one set of metrics that tells us everything about a player's value. Loved Kante and at the same time considered him a lousy passer of the football. I'm happy to discuss how and why a player contributed to winning, but dismissing the actual winning as somehow irrelevant is a fundamental disagreement for me. I'll leave it there.
