December 22, 20241 yr Did not expect much from Everton, unfortunately we played them to their strenghts and engaged too much into their silly little shenanigans. I'm personally not impressed with Gusto at no. 10, I'd have had Veiga to invert next to Caicedo and Enzo further up the pitch where he's been on top form lately. Onwards and upwards!

We seemed to have Gusto as a deep lying playmaker at times today as well. He's no Pirlo that's for sure LOL
December 22, 20241 yr Ah well a point is better than nothing and the fact we're all disappointed means we're on the right track. We would have lost that a couple seasons back. Anyway we're still second. See you all on Boxing Day. Merry Christmas all
December 22, 20241 yr It sounded like Everton had won the Champions League when the ref blew for full time. Their supporters cheered every hoofed clearance and the winning of throw ins in our half. Marvelous but brainless, Duyche is dreadful. For our part we can't win every week however if we have avoided injuries that at least is a plus.

I remember when they used to have those weird half circles behind the goals courtesy of fan bad behaviour. Forest is a good one too as is Stoke and Wednesday. Not had the chance to get to Wednesday personally but yes always looks like a good atmosphere 👍
December 22, 20241 yr For me the most shocking decision from Maresca was to first start Gusto in midfield and then secondly not subbing off Gusto in midfield. Offers absolutely nothing. Having a player void of all creativity in central areas AND 75% possession is a managerial disasterclass.
December 22, 20241 yr I think Jackson works hard for what he gets and what I mean by that is that he doesn't have the luck of an instinctive nose for a goal and that's what it needed today. An instinctive goal out of nothing. I thought Palmer, Sancho, Jackson and Neto, to a lesser extent, were all non existent. Thought Sanchez was really good, along with Enzo. Colwill good along with Tosin who I have had concerns about but was really composed throughout. Gusto I have never particularly rated and I thought he along with the ticking bomb that is Disasi were accidents waiting to happen. I would probably go for Caicedo or possibly Enzo for motm today. Oh and Madueke and Nkunku were the wrong subs for a game like today and proved it by also doing bugger all.

Honestly don't think he fits in Maresca's side at all. He said at the start of the season that Chilwell doesn't fit the style we are looking for, but I think the same can be said about Gusto. I think we will need to either sign a new RB, or promote Acheampong. We can't rely on James, he's never fit.
December 22, 20241 yr Author Best two chances we got, by some distance, were Nicos. Those were two top chances, in these games you have to take at least 1, if not both. After than Sanchez saved us a point as Harrison should score.

Gusto's still young tho, 21.

The best part of Gusto's game last season was when he was an overlapping full back pinging over crosses. We don't see that at all now LOL. The treatment of Chilwell is baffling, when Gusto is almost an identical skill set, and less proven, and yet favoured,
December 22, 20241 yr Sky rejoicing that our result means Liverpool will be top of the league at Christmas.

On the left we have Chilwell, Cucurella, Renato, and Colwill

I don't think it's a role you learn over time. It's just not in his skillset to play this way. Same as when we first signed Cucurella and tried to play him like a traditional fullback.

Either way, Gusto's still 21, bit harsh to just bin him this early

There is nothing that Gusto brings that Chilwell hasn't got a better version of. It's only that he's made of biscuit

If Gusto isn't good enough regardless of his age we shouldn't force the issue and block someone like Acheampong coming through who is only 3 years younger.

I agree but Acheampong is way too young to be put in a game like this.

I am watching the hated scouse atm, and I remember when TAA broke through. They had Clyne there who was young, bright and confident. But they obviously knew that TAA was good enough to step up and Clyne naturally fell by the wayside.
