Yeah, but I dont think the injury was as bad as this one. Hopefully because of that time we will tell them to shove it if they do ask for him to go and play.

Has Chelsea ever stood in the way if one of our players has wanted to go and represent their country? I'm afraid that if Ghana asks him, Essien will go.

I remember we argued the case the last time with Essien, but surely they wont ask for him anyway. He hasnt played for 3 months after a very bad injury, might get some game time against Pompey etc. Surely even Ghana wont expect him to play in the ACN.

I hope so. I'm sure it would be too much too soon.

Well he wasn't named in the squad, although it can be changed, so thats a good sign.

I dont think he will come back as the Essien we all loved, simply because the injuries will have slowed him down. But if he can return somewhere near that form then he should be in the team without a doubt. He was an absolute machine when on his top form, an animal that gave us something no other team had. Him and Ramires together could be interesting if they could find a way to play alongside each other.

Essien will have to change his game. He won't be able to run up and down for 90 mins like before his knee injuries or as Ramires does now.
I think his best chance to get back to the first team is to master the Makelele role. He had already played as DM and did well there, the main argument against it was that it limits his game by taking out one of his mains assests, his marauding runs forward. However sadly this won't be the case anymore.
Can we maybe get Maka back as a coach to help him out? And all the youngsters in that position while we're at it, that would be a dream addition to the coaching staff.

Not quite, still need a bit more creativity than Bison.

agree about the lack of creativity, but was thinking more of him being the driving force.

When essien first came he was such a powerful runner and was so athletic...if he could get back to that level then it would be fantastic. Realistically though, i cant see how he will ever recover that power/drive/stamina and tbh i never rate his passing ability. He plays far to many sideways passes which is something we need to do less of and with the exception of a few wonder shots was never a consistent goal threat or creative force.

I am not sure he would even get in the team now.

Robby D just said this in his pre match interview today.

Quote

'Essien is not quite ready yet but we hope to have him back training with us soon, maybe by the end of the month.'

I hadn't heard anything about a setback at any point.  In fact, I thought the articles I read said he was a little ahead of his expected recovery timetable.  Either way, I've always heard he'll probably be back in time for the United game.

Fingers crossed!

The bison needs a rapturous roar when he comes back.

Lets hope he is stronger than ever and fired up

Maybe not.  Accoring to the Chelsea Youth site, he's still a couple of weeks away from training.

Would love to see Essien back, he is one of my favourite chelsea players of all time.

When at his best, he was the best in that position and is unstoppable. He can create, score and defend.

Can't wait to see him back in action to replace that sh** bag meireles
