  1. How did they calculate that? Was it just 'I reckon this'? Cavani is 2 years older, but apparently less experienced.
  2. I would suggest that more important although less immediately obvious in that game was Mikel when he came on. We controlled the ball so much more and just wouldn't let Man Utd out of their half, he'd just clean up the ball and move it on. Although Hazard was definitely more eye catching. Not that I'm saying Mikel is a candidate for this, it's just I think he was more important to that turnaround.
  3. Ramires is not and never has been a holding midfielder.
  4. It wasn't so much a comment on how much I rate Feruz as it was a comment as to how much I don't rate Bent.
  5. Indeed, I think this is one of those signings we'd loan out and see how they develop.
  6. The thing I fear with Rooney (and this should probably go in the Rooney thread, but oh well) is his fitness. He doesn't have the professionalism of other footballers and tends to come back overweight at the start of the season. It's Ricky Hatton syndrome (although not to the same extent) and I have a strong feeling that it's going to cut his career massively short. I think last season is where it started to affect him and I have a fear that if we sign him, it would only ever get worse. He's a very talented player, but plenty of Man Utd fans I've spoken to don't fear him moving to us, which tells a story in of itself.
  7. Torres is still better than Darren Bent and it would take something extremely serious for that to change. I would rather rely on Islam Feruz than Darren Bent.
  8. The same can be argued about Messi. He's never really replicated his form for Barcelona on the international stage, but that doesn't mean he's less of a player. What should be noted about Cavani is how many goals he scores and how little space he needs to score them. His movement is excellent and he's willing to play in any position he's asked to, including left midfield (not even left wing). He has a lot of quality, whether he has £50m worth of quality is a different question. Remember, we have Mata, Hazard, Oscar, De Bruyne, Schurrle and even Moses around to give him the chances Hamsik provides, so I don't think it's too massive a problem. Nothing is guaranteed in football and signings, but he's one of the very best players in a position we need a world class player in. He has excellent movement and finishing and is good in the build up. If it's a question of £50m for Cavani or £25m for Rooney, I'd say that Cavani represents better value, but only just. Many will disagree with that, but I think he has all the tools he needs to be a success here and really add those extra goals we could do with.
  9. I'm not convinced that he's ready for the Premier League yet. I think a loan abroad would serve him well, Spain or Germany in particular. The difficulty is finding a team where he'll get a lot of games, while also being challenged enough to improve considerably. I think upper Championship is that level still for the moment, possibly a newly promoted Spanish or German side? It's a tricky one.
  10. I don't think this is true in terms of the onus on them being to learn our language, everyone should learn another language. It's more that we don't have one particular language to learn. I had to learn French, Spanish and German at school, but we didn't focus on any one in particular, which would no doubt help a fair amount.
  11. Weren't we close to signing Iniesta when he was 21/22 or so?
  12. Worse players doesn't necessarily equate to being a worse squad. The problems that surround Tevez will be gone and you may well have a more cohesive dressing room because of it, especially with some actual man management at the club. I don't think you'll miss Tevez beyond an injury crisis.
  13. Nokia Windows Phones have by far the best cameras on phones. If you don't want Windows Phone, Undertow's suggestion is the one to go with.
  14. I just caught up with this after work. I wish I hadn't bothered.
  15. There is definitely too much oestrogen here, now. I think I'm going to go watch Rocky.
  16. Just to make it clear, you're talking in terms of consistency of our defenders, right? Otherwise, I'd say Mata and Cech edge them out for consistency.
  17. I don't think many, if any would, but that's just down to Cech's experience as much as anything. I'd feel more comfortable with him. Courtois is in position to be the very best 'keeper in the world. As in he could be better than Neuer (who for me is currently the best) and any other goalkeeper within two seasons. He has everything at his disposal, he has all of the mental, technical and physical attributes you'd want in a 'keeper. He's currently easily within the top 10 goalkeepers in the world, arguably top 5 (although I'd probably say just outside that at number 6) and is younger than any of those around him. He's a year younger than De Gea and doesn't make the mistakes he does and seems to me to have far greater mental strength, whilst still making similarly remarkable saves. I love Cech and he's won everything with us, he's one of the leaders in the dressing room and his experience and ability have been pivotal in any success we've had since he joined the club. The thing is, we have someone who might be better as well. From a purely footballing perspective it's not an easy decision, but Courtois edges it for me with his potential to improve beyond Cech. From a personal point of view I'd love to keep Cech, but from a financial point of view we need to make a decision. I think we will have one more season with Courtois on loan, then have them both for a season and look to try and sell Cech on the season after, as tough as that is to stomach. We're very fortunate, but we have to make the right decision for the future of the club and I personally feel that Courtois will be able to play bigger part of that future.
  18. It wouldn't be the first time that sort of thing has happened, but it's also a logical link to make. It's a position we need and he's playing in a tournament most football fans yearning for the start of the season are watching. It seems like a lazy link to me, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not true.
  19. They do, but they'll no doubt set up a proxy with a similar name and to most people that'd be what they see and notice. I was just keeping things simple.
  20. Indeed, I just wish they gave Oscar a rest. He really needs and deserves one.
  21. Long story short, the best way around it, will be going to a different site, as in it will be renamed and you won't notice the difference. Easy example is firstrow's old website. http://firstrowsports.com/ which then became http://firstrowuk.eu/ It'll make no difference.
  22. He was talking about other programs which run protocols similar to torrents, which they can already throttle and have been able to for years. The port doesn't affect it, I don't believe.
  23. They can throttle it to the point it's unwatchable, though.
