would you suffer/accept Liverpool winning the title

Featured Replies

NO!!!

Liverp**l must NOT win the title, regardless of whoever wins the CL (which will hopefully be us anyway!)

My knee jerk reaction was NO, in no way am I willing to conceive of the Scum winning the title and the consecutive avalanche of Scouse delusion overtaking the football world. That would be really to much to take.

BUT then I thought - am I putting another club's misfortune ahead of my team's success ? The CL is the trophy we have wanted ever since Abramovich took over, so the possibility of winning it, no matter what other teams do, should surely prevail.

Still, I can't bring myself to concede a Liverpool title for a Chelsea's CL. I can't answer this thought experiment.

Dont think we can win the Prem so I would suffer (badly) the dippers winning the Prem if we got the CL. Horrible choice to have to make but between the 2 of them, I would rather the Manks won the Prem

you know what, i think i would. i remember when we won the league and was on top of the world, but felt a bit sickened when the dippers stole our thunder by winning the champions league so i would love to give some back..

Erm....yea!

People would seriously not want us to win our first European Cup, because Liverpool would win the Premiership? Its a no brainer. Sure it would be annoying for the Scousers to be mouthing off for a few months until the season begins again, but seriously? Who cares.

In my mind, we're out the title hunt realistically now, but the Champions League is wide open. And to be honest, after this season I would be incredibly thankful if we win anything at all!

If we win the Champions league?

Bluenut, I vote no and I'll tell you why.

I want you to imagine you are hearing this from an agressive bloke in a shell suit, with a large 'tache, bad breath and a whiney scouse accent.

Big deal youse won it der once so's wot? Weez won dat der drofee five times. More dan any udder British club and youse only won it der once, and dats only cozzer all der Russhen's money. Weez one dat so many times weez got to keep one. And i'll tell yer sumtink else son, wen Gerrard lifted up dat der league drofee dat waz der nineteenth time weird won dat. An udder record dat der is. Dats 'istory dat is son. But der again 'istory is sumtink youse lot knows nuddink about is it? So on yer bike son, cum back wen youse got a bit more 'istory, den we can have a discusshin abarrit.

Would I what? Would I f**k. I'm not going to bother explaining all the whys and wherefores of the situation because it's so blatantly bleedin' obvious. Besides which, I've just eaten, and I seriously don't fancy spending the rest of the evening attempting to scrape partially digested chicken and chips off of the damned keyboard.

Truth be told I'd rather see us fail to quality for the Champions League than see those c**ts win anything.

Surely that is the correct answer. If you dont think you can win the league, which i would agree with, surely winning the most prestigious competition in the world for the very first time should be something you all pray for.

All the responses linked to what liverpool fans would say are so difficult for me to understand.

As a football fan, first priority should be wanting your team to win, at any cost, shouldnt it? So what cost is it Liverpool winning the league?

I'm making the assumption you're a Liverpool fan there, (after all it is the eve of a Liverpool/Chelsea clash and so many of them tend to turn up on here at these times), so let me spin that argument on it's head.

Imagine you're offered the choice of.........................

Liverpool winning the FA Cup, (alright, not the CL I know, but surely the stated principle of wanting your team to win first and foremost still applies?), against Man U imploding and missing out on their record equalling League Title win allowing Man City to nick it at the death.

Which would you choose? Honestly?

Tough one. But since I'm not living in England I would say "Yes". I really want us to win the Champions League and a really good friend of mine is a Liverpool supporter and I wouldn't mind him seing his team win the league.

If I would have lived in England then I would probably say "No" though.

Come on guys we need to get over this.

Liverpool fans are utterley unbearable self righteous muppets but you can always ignore them, turn the radio off or not read their forums. Close the paper or turn off the tv.

Imagine JT scoring a last minute winner against Utd in Rome next month.

Imagine that feeling. Would you really swap that ? For anything ?

Of course we'd take it.

Liverpool are not going to win the title anyway and even if they do its will most likely be another 19 years before they win it again. Id let them have one title if it mean we were going to be the first London team to win the European Cup. We've had a poor year and Arsenal have had a poor year and Utd are stuttering right now but mark my words Utd have a squad they can only dream of.

Next year they wont have this type of chance again, no way.

Would we want the European Cup as losers??...........I certainly wouldnt........only want to win after we have won the league and are there as of right as CHAMPIONS.

Dont wanna lose to the c**ts though!!

Absolutely spot on there mate

What complete utter unadulterated nonsense.

The CL will never be the trophy I want above others - that, for me, will always be the domestic title.

Liverpool winning the title is a truly hideous idea however I think I have to agree with bjd. It also makes it a little easier that we would be knokcing Liverpool out on the way to winning it.

We are going to be looking for a new manager this summer and probably a number of new players - as reigning European Champions this would be far easier.

I agree with you Loz, the CL for me is a fairly long off second to winning the league. Anyone can win the CL (see Liverpool, Porto for recent examples), but the league takes a quality teams, who are consistent. During a drunkern football chat one night with some Liverpool supporting friends from university, they were shocked that I would take a title over a European Cup, but that was a few years ago, before they realised how winning the off CL, and failing to compete for the league year after year really doesn't make your club that much better, unless there is the squad there to back up a European Cup with a solid league campaign.

The European champions being attractive thing is a small factor IMO, and will attract a couple of players, but a spot in the competition next year is the main thing players want to see. And anyway what did Liverpool's CL really gain them in terms of players?

No, I'll take Chelsea winning a Champions League this year, happily, as realistically we won't win the league without a screw up beyond all reasonable proportions from United and Liverpool. If that means Liverpool win it, then so be it, they managed to win the league whilst we were in a rebuilding year, congratulations, and it will be all the more sweet when next year we come back fighting with a revamped squad, and get back to the top of the league.

I thought hard about this and I think this post summed it up best for me.

I'd take it, considering our VERY slim chance of catching either them or Man Utd in the league. It would be quite uncomfortable to have to hear all the Liverpool fans, particularly those in the press, go on and on about it, but they always do even when they don't win so...

I'm more interested in our own success. And winning the CL is something we've needed to do as a club to keep our momentum going forwards. Make no bones about it, we've taken a few steps backwards since Jose's departure, and I find it really difficult to believe we can win either of the two big trophies. FA Cup seems our best chance. So, yes, I would take the CL win. We can always say "we beat you in the Champions League" to the Liverpool fans intent on gloating. Despite their likely response, you know it's gotta hurt!

By the way, I think Loz's point about making us more attractive to prospective targets is an important one. The CL win would be about this season but good players coming in would be about our future and that, at the moment, is questionable.

Cheers,

Butch
