Life after Didier Drogba?

There isn't any.

We're f**ked.

Seriously, he's almost like a 'get out of jail' free card to be used freely by the manager when we're not playing well, and on many occasions he has almost single handedly won us some very, very important matches.

Is there anyone at all who could even come close to doing for us what Didier does now?

It is true that he is an integral part of our team but he is not indispensible for us. At the end of the 07/08 season we were very close to selling him and at the end of this season it looked like he may be on his way out. I am very happy that he is still at the club but when he does leave if noone within the club such as sturridge or franco has stepped up we will definitely dish out the money and buy a world class striker. The two cornerstones of our team are frank and jt and as integral as dids is he is not irreplaceable. Our squad has very good depth and we are working strong on our youth.

Should we sign one of the world class youngsters such as aguero or pato in this transfer window it would be very good for our team because it will give them a chance to adapt to england and chelsea whilst didier is still banging in the goals and by the time he leaves they to could become goalscoring machines.

Blimey dkw, what's the matter with you lately? Are you due on? :)

:) quite possibly. but it is bolocks isnt it. "oh no, drogba leaves and we fall apart" is the kind of sh*te the sun would print.

We'll be fine...I'm more worried by the thought of life without Lampard.

EXACTLY

Life without Drogba? We'll cope pretty easily I would have thought, just as we've coped when he hasn't been available in the past.

Lamps is a different matter, but again we'll cope, just as Utd will have to get used to life without Ronaldo and how many clubs have had to cope with the loss of big players before that.

Drogba didnt play much last season and Anekla ended up golden boot so im not that worried about it. We may have to change our style a bit but there are other players that i am worried about doing without.

We all know on his day Didier is unplayable and in a three pronged attack as a lone striker possibly the best in the world even now in his later years.

In Europe especially, like when we bombarded balls up to him against Bayern Munich in the second half a few years back. However, like it's been mentioned i'd been more concerned about replacing Frank Lampard in the long run.

20 odds goals from midfield and let's face it that's harder to replace than a 20 goal a season striker.

In fact we already have one in Anelka and who's to say young Sturridge isn't the man in the future to bag that amount too.

Also in playing a diamond as opposed to out and out wingers, or even any system with one player behind the front two requires the two front men to work in tandem and as we found with the likes of Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen sometimes the unlikiest partnerships will click.

Let's enjoy Man Utd trying to replace Ronaldo's input over the past few years and let's remember we've played 4-3-3 for years, who's to say the next ten years will be a decade of diamonds !

Against ManU and Scum we definetly need Drogba. Anelka is easily overshadowed by concentrated marking but Drogs is very hard to mark as he is so strong. Actually in most games he is guarded by one player. We need them both Drogs and Anelka but when it comes down to crucial games in spring there is not many in this world who can do what Didier does.

He's a force of nature. One of the best bits of his stuff is in that video that shows that norwegian troll go blind in that sad Barca game where Drogba just forces his way past Toure(was it?) before he was taken down close to penalty area. Brilliant determination.

don't be so... silly.

he's had one great, great season, and the others his form has varied and he's had injuries. (no doubting at full fitness and form he's one of the best players in the world though)

but the way top place are replaced is indirectly- you don't buy like for like. man united didn't go out looking for another keane, we didn't try to buy another zola- the way the sides play change to suit what they have, not what they had.

Life without Drogba or life without Lampard will just be like life without Zola, life without Dixon, or, for that matter, life without Osgood, Wise, Newton, Dalla Bona, Wood, Beasant and Sutton. Another day, another memory/frustration. What really matters most? The overall experience of supporting the club or the, relatively speaking, moments of greatness.
