Transfer Deadline Day

Featured Replies

Don't hold your breath.

That is nothing to do with the thread, just some useful medical advice.

Could this be the least eventful transfer deadline day since Caligula turned down a move to the ladies beach volleyball team?

The sort of names being talked about are Heitinga, David James and Kranjcar. OK Heitinga and Kranjcar would be useful signings for Everton and Spurs but it is not exactly the stuff of headlines.

Or is there still one or two late moves to be made?

I wouldn't be suprised to see Man City make a late move for someone and Man Utd suddenly making a signing wouldn't surprise me all that much either. I do however, think we won't be siging anynone.

city in for bentley lol. they just can't help themselves

they have a very good team now so the only additions they should be looking to make are world class players who will walk straight into their team

bentley is not one of those players

arsenal fan i know was saying yesterday that the gers were trying to sign wilshire on loan for the season

that would be incredible but i can't see it. he is too close to the 1st team

we (gers) nearly signed messi on loan a couple of seasons ago but i think a barca player got injured so they hung onto him :)

Well, its 1:36am over here, and to be honest, I'm expecting to wake up in 7/8 hours and find we're in negotiations with someone. After last years final day craziness, I have an odd feeling that we're going to be trying to pull of a surprise today, not that it seems its needed at the moment, but hey...just a feeling.

I'm with loz on this one. I think we've packed up the stall and gone home.

I reckon United still have a trick or two up their sleeves, though... and let's expect the usual influx of dross at sh*te Hart Lane.

1026: Reports are emerging from texters to 81111 that Franck Ribery has been spotted at various locations around old London town ahead of a last-gasp switch to Chelsea. Now, even though it's a deal I'd love to see go through, it's reason enough to crack open the flying pigs graphic.

I really don't think we're going to be getting anybody today.

Although, I think after the shambles of what happened last year, even if we did have a deal being lined up, we wouldn't find out about it until it's a done deal.

Nothing wrong with this deal in the slightest. RSC and Bentley had their most prolific season playing under hughes together.

We are going to have trouble breaking down teams like Stoke trying to run and play through them. Bentley is exactly the plan B we need to deliver accurate crosses into Adebayor and RSC in those types of games. Im hoping it goes through.

I cant see us buying anyone today. I am rather disappointed with chelsea's effort in the transfer window this summer.

really? why exactly? most people said our main problem was an ageing squad and a lack of a striker. weve signed 4 young players including one very exciting striker prospect.

Rumour here in Bulgaria has it that the deal might be a swap with Petrov, who doesn't look like he'll be getting much playing time with the new arrivals. Do you think that's what we might see ?

To be fair, only Zhirkov is a player among signed who can potentially make an immediate impact. The likes of Matic and Sturridge are long way from that and may never get there.

I'd imagine whatever top transfer targets we've had in mind at the beginning of May became non-existent once Madrid started splashing the cash like it was going out of style. This squad is still very solid and competitive but in a year or two if we're bound to regress with our key players all getting older.

I don't want us to turn into the AC Milan circa 2009/10.

Agree Abra, and I think the original plan might have been to overhaul the squad somewhat this summer, but that this has now been put on hold, maybe till next year, once Madrid and City started going mental.

As much as I wanted an Aguero or someone, this might be no bad thing, as it gives Carlo a chance to pu his stamp on our playing style this season and then buy players for next season once he's had a real chance to see what our squad is made of, and where the key improvements need to be made.

thats pretty much what i was getting at. its very difficult for us to bring in an immediate first choice player as our squad is so strong. weve signed young players with potential for the first time in a while, which is exactly what everyone seemed to want. yet now some people arent happy because we havent gone out and spent fortunes on big name players.

Im sure Bentley would welcome the move with open arms, and its a decent gamble for both you and Spurs. If Hughes can get his career back on track he could be a pretty good player again, and to lose him for Petrov (a player I had actually thought was already sold) and a few million is not a bad deal.

I just hope its for like 4 or 5m, so that Spurs have to stare in the face the fact that they incurred a 12m loss on him.

We have no intention of signing Bentley apparently. Its a shame as I think he would of done a good job for us. No idea where it leaves Petrov now. He doesnt want to stay and fight for his place so I dont see the problem in letting him go.

Today has been pretty dull, I expected alot more from other clubs. Glad we let Ben Haim go. Liability that bloke.

I know it hasen't been a very exciting transfer window on our parts but at the start of the season it goes to show that Carlo has got the best out of the likes of Deco and brought Riccy back too form.

A not very exciting window but a good one for us.

So..... Whats the plan when Drogba goes to ACN????

doesnt di santo return in january?
