I'm a big fan of Nicholas Lyndhurst in Goodnight Sweetheart, I stumbled across 'The Piglet Files' and decided to snap it up.

 

About to embark on season 1, has anybody seen it, and do they rate it?

Not a movie but the new Hannibal series is very good.

Saw the new Star Trek movie the other night, it's pretty good, but not as good as the trailers would suggest.

 

From what I understand having read a few bits, you need to be a bit of a Trekky to get the whole story.

 

I would say that you need to be a Trek fan to get the full story.

 

I just got back from seeing it. I thought it was very good, but I was expecting just a tad more.

Please explain the relationship between the current Star Trek crew and the ones on the original TV show.  Are they supposed to be younger versions of hte same people, and so the story takes place earlier in their lives (before the time period that the TV show takes place)?  If that is true, then how come young Spock talks to old Spock in the STII? 

 

Are they in some kind of parallel universe instead?

Nope, I did not see the first one.  I guess I will have to now.

It's the only way you'll even begin to understand it, I would guess this will be a series of films.

^ Yes it will, especially with all of the tidbits in the new movie. They have certainly opened lots of doors.

 

And I'm pretty sure I read that most of the cast is already signed on for the third film. The question is whether or not JJ is going to be the director or if he will be too busy with the new Star Wars films.

Watched Seven Psychopaths so thought I would share In case anyone else is almost tempted by a pretty good cast to watch .........don't it is a pile sh*te ........

^{The wife and I are going to see Hangover III -- I know that I will regret it, since the reviews have been abysmal.  The movie is supposedly focused on Alan, who is a very grating character that I did not like at all in the earlier movies.  Oh well.   Maybe we will see Fast & Furious VI to make me feel better after watching Hangover III.}

Just watched 'Another Year' absolutely bloody brilliant! Any Mike Leigh fans this is a definate must, all I can say is "WOW"

Really?  I was totally underwhelmed by this when I saw it.  Had high hopes but was really disappointed.  Felt that it was a great cast but the film didn't live up to expectations.  

Depends if you're a Mike Leigh fan or not I suppose?

I wouldn't say I'm an out and out fan but I have liked his stuff in the past - but felt this was disappointing.  Slow and a little boring.  To be honest I saw it about a year ago and can't really remember much about it except I was expecting more but can't give a more incisive review than that.  I know it's had good reviews but I didn't enjoy it much.  Each to his own and all that. 

I saw Grabbers last night, a humourous monster movie set on a sleepy island of the Irish coast that is invaded by bloodsucking aliens. The aliens are almost indestructable except they are poisoned by alcohol so the locals soon figure out the only way to survive is to get and stay pissed. Very funny and a clever twist on the genre, I highly recommend it.

Watched this the other day:

Not bad, but I'd say you gotta fan of the group or at least the genre to really enjoy it.

Spent a day watching Ironman 1 &2, The avengers, and Captain America.. 3 very good films and 1 I wasn't so keen on being Captain America, I watched this after the Avengers so I must admit I was a tad disappointed with the film

 

I also watched, or tried to watch, Captain America after The Avengers and turned it off about halfway through.  I like Chris Evans and his performance in Avengers, just really didn't care for that film at all.  

Just seen World War Z.  Scary stuff, I loved it.

Just seen Zero Dark Thirty, on DVD. It was a sober account of the search for Usama Bin Laden; not gung ho as I feared it might be. The film does get a bit 'techy' about the search and so won't be to everyone's taste. An intelligent espionage film and one that I'll defo re-watch.

Quite disappointed, to be honest. Not because of the view point, but because of the way it was done. It felt like the director wanted to be Penn & Teller (the way they handle things in the Bullsh*t series) and Michael Moore all rolled into one. The way it was edited made it felt dishonest and it felt like they didn't trust that the viewer can make their own conclusions, but they rather just ram the point home, quite bluntly most of the time. You want to show the ridiculous side of religion? Sure, why not, but why make it such a juvenile propaganda piece. They probably thought it was edgy, but I thought it was a bit embarrassing at times. I wasn't offended, mind you. It's just that I think they had an opportunity to make a movie that could really say something about the state of world religion. And it doesn't stop at any point long enough to really ponder about any of the subjects it handles. It just makes a few jokes and then runs off to mock the next ridiculous religious type. Ok, they're very different type of movies, but Life of Brian managed to say more about religion and be funny in its first fifteen minutes than this whole movie was able to be.

It is a Danish film, based on the ramifications of a false sexual assault allegation made by a girl too young to understand the repercussions of such an allegation.

 

It would be my first trip to the cinema since Casino Royale. Hopefully my nearest cinema (a thirty minute drive away) will be screening it, I'm not so sure they will be as they're a bit small.

Having seen a preview piece on 'The Hunt', I'm desperate to go and see it.
