Watched Airplane for the umpteenth timeast night and it still made me laugh - absolutely love it!

Airplane, Naked Gun, Police Squad... all brilliant. Leslie Nielsen was such a great comedy actor.

Watched The Cider House rules last night, I think I've seen it before.

I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10

Oh and Charleze Theron is off the dial, she is stunning!

The book is much much better than the film, which only scratches the surface of the story.  I cannot overemphasise how good the book is - honest!

Battle of Britain, for about the thousandth time!

A perfect film, aside from the Spanish 109's.

A brilliant film. A lot of it was filmed at North Weald, close to where I grew up. There's one scene where Michael Caine is outside his house and it has a 1960's pastic doorbell and an up and over garage door.

'..einkels! Doniers...no, 'einkels...'

You Only Live Twice.

I think you'll find that the line is: 'Einkels.' 'Messerschmitts!' 'Einkels.' 'Messerschmitts!' 'No they ain't they're Einkels.'

I can recall tons of dialogue from it...

Spring chicken to sh*tehawk in one easy lesson.

You could teach "monkeys" to fly better than that.

Don't threaten or dictate to us until you're marching up Whitehall, and even then we won't listen.

How many hours on Spits? Ten sir. Let's make it eleven before jerry has you for breakfast.

Silly bitch, she gets me to drag her and the kids half way round the country and now 'I'm bored' she says!

Corporal, refuel them immediately. Yes sir. So anyway, as I was saying... I don't mean with your blood! And rearm them. Yes Sir!

For the benefit of the uneducated among us I shall translate.

Our chum can't believe the Sedan's fallen, I can.

Silence! Shut up, in Polish!

One, the RAF is not a flying circus. Two, strict RT procedure will be observed at all times. And it is never, repeat, never to be used, for private Polish chit chat.

Where have you been? Learning to swim. Did you get anything? All I got was a bellyful of English channel.

A third of a kill laddie, only a third.

The engines overheating and so am I, either we stand down or blow up, which do you want?

Put that cigarette out! The mains have gone, can't you smell gas? Don't you yell at me, Mr Warwick!

Don't just stand there, get one up!

You're right Lofty. I wasn't a hundred percent certain when posting so thanks for clearing it up.

I like that scene where a smarmy German Officer says '...even a Spitfire can't be in two places at once...' and then the Heinkels get attacked (the 'Tomato einz' dialogue that ends with 'Achtung, Spitfires!'. A brilliant film that can be re-watched time and again.

The camp one?  Yeah I didn't find him funny this time round - thought it was just cos I'd seen it loads but maybe it's because humour's changed.

Watched "Dark City" after meaning to see it for a while.  Orwellian themes with a Kafkan twist.  Stylistically excellent, in fact the compelling style and setting probably makes it.  But I do enjoy a good cult Sci Fi, and I'd recommend it to anyone else who does.  Also Jennifer Connelly combined with the symbolism and style of the 1940's... Just enchanting.

I just watched the recent remake of Dredd with Karl Urban.

Awful.

And that's all I'm saying about it.

I'm a fan of the Dredd comic stories. Dredd has been a hard character to take from the page to the screen. The first film was watchable but it's mood/sensibility was so differrent from that of the comics that it didn't get the core support aboard. Dredd is a bleaker, more serious character than Stallone. Dredd is a Spartan and in fairness Urban 'got' that.

The way in which Dredd was being treated for the most recent film sounded better but the film lost something by being based in one location only. Urban was good but the film never really engaged. It's one of those films where you can consider why it could be better as you watch. It never drew me in.

That's fair. I never read any of the comics so all I had for a basis was the original and this movie itself. Now, I wasn't a stout fan of the original, but I expected a lot more from this remake. Maybe that was the whole issue...

Urban is not a bad actor by any means (I think he's great as the new McCoy on the Star Trek reboot) and he was more of that cavalier style character in this movie like you were saying Dredd is in the comics. I feel that he wasn't the issue with the movie. I never thought to myself that they picked the wrong actor for Dredd, and was more of the rogue freelance type than Stallone's portrayal of Dredd.

What I couldn't grab onto was the entire concept of the film itself. The whole drug "slow down" effect was corny and destroyed the flow of the movie. I agree that being in one location just made the movie very underwhelming. Plus, I wasn't thrilled about the whole psychic aspect. It, again, made things a little more corny than they needed to be.

It could have been a lot more. It wasn't and it's unfortunate. It's one of the few movies that my wife has fallen asleep to... This and the original Tron.

I know this may be wrong to say, but I feel the Robocop reboot may suffer the same fate.

I forgot how bad the 'slo-mo' idea was. You're right; the film was poorly-paced. Another issue was that the Slo'mo maker's gang never had a chance. There wasn't a feeling that Dredd was in peril.

Urban is good as McCoy in Star Trek. Good seond film btw.

I agree re. Robocop. Bad idea to try again.

Good point, completely agree. At no point in the movie did I feel that Dredd could "get it".

Add all of this up and now you know why I gate it a rating of "Awful".  :good2:

Dredd was OK but is vastly inferior to The Raid, which has pretty much the same plot but located in present day Jakarta. Lots of great martial-art fights scenes, if you like that sort of thing.

Everything I've seen about the new RoboCop film makes me think they've completely missed the point of the original film. For a start he doesn't even look remotely robotic anymore, more like a Batman knock-off in a fancy helmet.

"Olympus has Fallen" on the plane home from South America.

Gerard Butler plays the US president's key bodyguard.

The whitehouse gets seized by Koreans (they want US out of Korea so that they can finish their cival war), the president gets taken hostage. Butler has to kick ass and wipe them all out. Basically a silly propaganda action flick.

Easy watch: 6.8/10

Cracking action though. The attack on the Whitehouse is the most memorable action scene I've seen in years.

If you like a bit of silly action I would recommend Crank and Shoot 'em Up.

Both are unashamedly over the top, stupid action.

I've seen Shoot 'em Up (what is the body count in that film?!) and it's great as Owen has some ex-SAS guy takes down the Yanks (sorry Arq) vibe.

I haven't seen Crank but i will. Thanks for the tip.

World War Z. Still wondering how they read the book and made that. Enjoyed it though, once you get past the whole "this is nothing like the book" feeling.
