Hobbit....

Really enjoyed the second Hobbit film, a lot more than the first.

Saw 12 Years a Slave tonight. After reading so many reviews raving about it, I decided to see it.

I was disappointed. Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance was excellent. But the film as the whole was episodic and repetitive. There are only so many establishing shots of the sunset one can take. And there are too many scenes filmed in the cotton fields. Benedict Cumberbatch was pretty terrible in his small role. His American accent poor. Perhaps he is only suited to cocky British roles, because he is terrific as Sherlock.

I connected with a few of the more emotional scenes- though a couple in particular were harrowing and hard to watch.

3/5.

12 years a slave - I pretty much agree with Blueblur's assessment and suspect some people overreacted in rating it because of the subject matter and because Ejiofor was utterly outstanding.  A bit like Ledger in the Dark Knight, even if he hadn't died his performance was so good it raised the value of the whole movie which dragged on a bit too much for my liking with the most bland protagonist you could hope for.  I've been a fan of Ejiofor since Serenity and he really showed what he's made of here.  Worth seeing regardless and I think it does justice to that horrible period of history.

Elysium - I enjoyed it but it's heavily loaded with a political message which isn't handled too well.  It uses sci fi to tell the story of a real problem with humanity, but his proposed solution is just implausible even in the sci fi genre.

Oblivion - Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise in a Tom Cruise sci fi movie.  Great special effects, good acting from most characters (one in particular isn't believable) but nothing ground breaking in the story.  Enjoyable for what it is though.

I never rated the first one. People go on about it so much like its the best film ever. It make me laugh in one or two scenes but that was about it. I personally think its massively over rated. Its seems like its one of those films that people say they love because it seems to be cool to like it.

Let the hate out, it soothes the soul.

I liked Anchorman because I did, not because it's supposedly cool to.

American Hustle on Wednesday as well, can't wait.

Watched American History X for the first time the other day.

Absolutely incredible. Wished I watched it sooner.

Best bit: kerb stomp.

I enjoyed Anchorman 1 but I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell's improv. It's painfully obvious where a script ends and where his improv begins. He does these weird not-quite-monologues where he has one idea and tries to stretch it for several lines.

"I like to <insert outrageous action here>!"

"Yeah <insert outrageous action here>ing"

"It makes me feel <insert wacky sentiment here>"

"<insert comical lie about outrageous action here>"

I do find it funny that you write reviews on films and holidays etc.

Assuming you are talking to me...that's how I roll, baby.

I love writing, especially about films and holidays, which are my main passions. People in other countries are just nuts.

I'm seeing Wolf of Wall Street tomorrow night, so you can be sure I'll be writing about that!

lol fair enough. I shall look forward to the next review.

Stallone's best film ?.....is that praise ??

Only just seen this!

No doubt Sly has had some questionable films *cough* Judge Dredd *cough* but he's had some pretty epic ones too, Rocky, First Blood, Cliffhanger, Cop Land and not forgetting, Stop or my Mom will shoot!

Anyone else find Rocky V to be a bit underrated? I just wished the street fight had been split up half way, and then both of them ending up in the ring, for a big fight a few months down the line.

Just saw Wolf of Wall Street.<br /><br />Best American film made in years. Incredibly funny and gripping. DiCaprio and Scorsese are on top form. A MUST SEE. I cannot emphasise this enough.

<br /><br />Watching it on Tuesday night :D

Just saw Wolf of Wall Street.

saw most of it yesterday and it was brilliant some funny moments....watching the last 40 mins today.....3 hours long

Wolf of Wall Street was so obviously the best movie of the year. Leo deserves to win the Oscar. By the way, American Hustle is a horrendous piece of sh*t. So boring. If anyone sees that crapstravaganza let me have your take on it.

Saw American Hustle last night. Excellent performances from all the cast, entertaining film. Read my review for more thoughts:

You can't be serious. After 10 minutes I was looking at my watch. I loved Silver Linings but Hustle was a failure. Every scene with Cooper and Amy Adams made me groan with impatience. The laughs were few and far between. The story was clichéd and predictable. The ending was a letdown except that it meant i could finally leave. You wanna see a vastly superior film, see "Her."

I disagree.
