Just watched 12 Years a Slave, probably the most saddening movie i've ever seen.

 

Amazing movie though and really opened my eyes to many aspects of slavery I wasn't even aware of prior to viewing.

Everyone is seeing deep, meaningful films like 12 Years, The Book Thief... Yet I went to see Ride Along last week. I found it funny though, a but if escapism.

Finally watched 'In the Loop' last night.  An extended and much poorer episode of The Thick of It.  Disappointing.

300 Rise of an Empire was class. Check it out, especially if you liked the first one.

Gravity, for the third time.. I saw it twice at the cinema and once on blu-ray. Great film. Sandra was robbed at the Oscars IMO.

Wolf Of Wall Street, best film I have seen in years.

 

What have you been watching for all these years?

 

I've finally seen it - it being Scorsese after all. However, given the film-maker, I was mostly disappointed & found it highly indulgent film-making trading on nothing but excess. For starters it was an hour too long. The script was very mediocre as a whole. The cinematography, as one would expect, is very good, the production values are first class & Di Caprio's performance is what we've come to expect from him - he shines in these over the top roles. But it is a bit of a meandering mess really & is probably only just saved at the end by Thelma's editing which, as always, is top notch. The question has to be asked: has Scorsese started to run out of ideas? If you compare this to Goodfellas & Casino (both brilliant films for different reasons) it's a real let down & albeit unkind it has been said with some poignancy that it's Goodfellas for Nerds - a showy conjuring trick. The irony is that Russell's American Hustle (which is his tribute to Scorsese) is much the better film & the other irony is that the Academy got it just about spot on in awarding Wolf of Wall Street precisely nothing. All in all an attempt at satire that forgot to add the ridicule.

Took my son too see Despicable Me 2 at the weekend, the local cinema does a kids club where at 10am they show older kids films for £1 a ticket so it's a great way to take your kids out without spending a small fortune. 

 

Anyway, I really enjoyed the film plenty to laugh at through the whole thing, like a lot of the kids films now days there is plenty of humour in there for adults to laugh at so that we don't get bored.

 

The minions are always very funny but I think Steve Carell does a great job voicing Gru.

Right now I'm watching "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows".

Just watched Nebraska.

 

Not the most uplifting, but a good small town America story of a family trying to stay together so they take a road trip.

 

Kinda depressing, but slightly uplifting too.

 

Enjoyed it.

I never saw it at the cinema but I love this film. I have it in Blu-Ray and with 5.1 surround sound it's great. The visuals are beautiful and the score just makes it for me.

If Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for Gravity then they would have to split the award with the numerous animators that work on 100's of shots with her in. Nearly 90% of the scenes of her in that movie consist of just her face, the rest is computer graphics.

 

The visual effects artists on that film should get more recognition as they are the ones who brought it to life in my opinion.

Last movie I saw was The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. Movie never gets old

Off to see Captain America: Winter Soldier tonight.

 

The reviews are saying it's the best Marvel movie since the Avengers so I'm looking forward to it.

 

I do enjoy a bit of fraff comic book action and what better way to start your weekend.

Yep, got the Blu Ray, an excellent film indeed!

ITV4 were showing 'Nighthawks' last night, with Stallone and Billy Dee Williams (of Empire Strikes Back fame).

Really good thriller, enjoyed it a lot! Though I missed the first 20 minutes.
