Captain America: Winter Solider 

 

Loved it. I've been enjoying the Marvel universe films but have been left a little disappointed with the post Avengers films but this was much, much better. 

 

They've toned down the comedic aspect, gone with a more intelligent plot and really pushed forward the over all story arc. 

 

If like me you've been a fan of the Marvel films I highly recommend seeing this one. 8/10

 

 

 

Also started to watch A Bridge To Far which was being shown on Channel 5 on Saturday, I stopped watching because the Palace game was starting... Kind of wish I had finished watching the film now.

Reign Over Me w/Adam Sandler. Easily one of the most powerful films I have seen in a very long time. Definitely not your typical Sandler film (not saying this in a negative way, I am a huge fan of his movies).

300: Rise of an Empire. I thought it was kewl, especially since those were the real characters & the story was passed down through the ages. Ok, there was some historical inaccuracies, still a good story & awesome in 3D.

I really want to see that. The trailer looks immense. As for historical innacuracies, they don't bother me as long as the film is entertaining. People these days forget that movies are for the most part, works of fiction. Not documentaries. Even if its "based on a true story", doesn't mean its going to be a completely accurate depiction.

Comedy : We're the Millers

Broke Drug dealer is forced to go on a whacky road trip to mexico with the help of some unusual companions. Don't know the actors except Jennifer Aniston, but it was actually pretty funny and the cast was quite likeable.

Action : Homefront

Jason Statham, trying to leave his past and make a better life for his young girl. Can't shake off the trouble and we get to see him smashing bad guys left right and centre.

James Franco, Kate Bosworth, Winona Ryder.

Horror : The Conjuring

Interesting enough horror / Chiller whatever they call them. A couple of Paranormal investigators with the knack of solving incidents of Hauntings face one of their worst cases.

Vera Farmiga, usually very likeable in whatever she's in.

The last film I've seen is the Grand Budapest Hotel. I quite enjoyed it but it's a bit weird!

Watching the Lord of the Ring trilogy at the moment....had them on blu-ray for ages (they were cheap), but never got round to them....

 

Done with the two towers, one left to go.

Yes, I saw that last week, and found it a bit disappointing.  As you say it was "quite enjoyable" but given the *cast list, I felt it ought to have been a lot better.

Took the day off work and went to see Noah today. I quite enjoyed it despite the best efforts of most of the audience to provoke me into a murderous rampage. I'm a bit of an Aronofsky fan boy so I went into it with a slight bias, however it is a very well made and imaginative big budget adaption of what must have been a very difficult story to adapt. Funnily enough I think the source material is the weak point of the film, there are many "nah... that's impossible" moments, but that's the bible for you. It also seemed to promote vegetarianism quite heavily and painted meat-eaters as evil, which doesn't sit too well with me. It's probably my least favourite of his films but is way better than most blockbusters tend to be and preferable to Yet Another Super Hero Movie 3.

Saw Gravity last week (yeah I missed it before),  Really enjoyed it - obviously the effects were great. Have discovered that Cineworld do Take Two where they bring back a big film for one night - only costs £10 for two so am spending the next few weeks catching up with others I missed - this week American Hustle.

I find it difficult to watch Russel Crowe films personally...Just something about him I find extremely dis likable.

Was browsing Netlix last night for a film to watch and decided to watch Step Brothers as I had never seen it.

 

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly both play 40 year old man childs whose parents marry and so they end up living together.

 

A couple of small laughs aside I barely smiled, it just wasn't funny, witty or clever. 

 

I kept waiting for a the big laugh(s) to come, the scene the kick started it all but it never came.

 

If you haven't seen it, avoid it.

I think I have watched that but I'm not entirely sure. That's not usually a good sign, so I'm inclined to agree with you.

I too found stepbrothers humourless. Cpl of witty parts but for most part a very unfunny film. Just rewatching midnight express. Good but not as good ad I had remembered. Just saw that the lead actor actually died in early 90's.

I think I have watched that but I'm not entirely sure. That's not usually a good sign, so I'm inclined to agree with you.

 

Ha ha, nope.. Although the film was pretty unmemorable so I wouldn't blame you for forgetting about it.

 

I don't mind Will Ferrell but he's done more films that are rubbish than ones that are really good.

 

He's a bit like Adam Sandler in that he lives off the reputation of his goods films but then goes on to make endless amounts of dross.

Eurgh, I did the same. Saw it came on Netflix so thought I'd give it a go.

 

Watched about half an hour of it. Didn't even smirk, dire.

It's sh*te, we'd probably love it if we were 15 though. .

I watched Hangover 3 last night. What a complete waste of 2 hours, so boring. It tries too hard to be funny. Hangover 2 was terrible as well. Number 1 was the best.

Well, American Hustle last night.  Was underwhelmed.  Thought the plot was both confusing and not clever enough.  I know it has no links, but compared to the British TV series called Hustle, this was pedestrian and charmless.  I didn't really get why they were trying to set up a politician who didn't seem particularly corrupt - I just felt no sympathy for the scammers - usually they should be scamming someone who's odious, bullying, corrupt or something.  There was no real twist in the end - well, if I can see it coming, it must be pretty poor. 

 

And Amy Adams's cosutumes!  I was so distracted the whole way through by wondering whether her boobs were going to start acting on their own - god knows what it must have been like for fellas watching this!  Really, she expected to be taken for an English woman with royal blood in THOSE outfits - I don't think so!  No-one would've worn that sort of thing in the daytime in semi-formal settings!

 

I enjoyed the 70s setting and music though!  But The Sting it ain't.

Sexy Beast. Watched it with my bro for the 50th time. Fantastic film, might stick 40 inch chest on later! John Hurt in that film is legendary.
