One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest....what a film! The ending was really sad.

It's funny though, I knew what the Chief was gonna do before it happened; thanks to this scene spoofing the ending in The Simpsons.

Went to see Cold in July at the weekend and thought it was excellent. It starts off as the story of a family man living in Texas in the early 80s who shoots dead a young burglar he finds skulking around his living room in the middle of the night. The man struggles to come to terms with taking the burglar's life at first but soon starts to fear for his family's safety after the kid's dangerous ex-con dad show up. Things are not quite as they seem though and things take several twists before reaching a very gratifying conclusion.

I thought the 80s setting was very well done and the retro synth-heavy soundtrack gives it a suitable period mood.

Right now I'm watching "The Mummy" with Brendan Frasier.  It's on American Movie Classics (the same channel that gave us "The Walking Dead") with Story Notes.  It's about a team of archeologists in 1920's Egypt that accidentally wakes up an Egyptian priest that was mummified alive after messing around with the Pharaoh's missus. My sister loved this movie when we were kids, and I think she wore out the tape.

Watched 12 Angry Men yesterday, and 1 Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest this afternoon.

I read the play in high school, and the movie made an even bigger impression on me than the play. Both were very good.

My girlfriend and I have both got ourselves a Cineworld unlimited card and the past fortnight we've watched Edge of Tomorrow, The Fault in our Stars and How to train your Dragon 2. All of which I enjoyed. We decided to go and see Transformers: Age of Extinction...

It was horrible, constant explosions and loud noises added to camera angles that won't keep still makes for a great watch if you want a f**king headache! 2 and a half hours as well! Wasted a good Sunday afternoon on that PoS.

Most recently we watched Primer on Dvd which was very good albeit confusing at times but what time travel film isn't?

Watched a couple of films over the weekend.

Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes and I was surprised at just how good and entertaining it was.

Planet of the Apes films have never really interested me but after seeing the positive reviews for the newest one, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes I thought I would see what all the fuss was about.

Andy Serkis is just the don of mo-cap characters and made Ceaser really come to life.

Well worth a watch.

Also watch Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel and again it was a really good watch, very easy going and funny.

Ralph Fienes was great in the lead role but some great cameos as always from the likes of Harvey Kietel, Bill Murray and Edward Norton.

I thought the same thing about the first Transformers film, probably one of the most unpleasant films I've ever seen. So far I've avoided being subjected to any of the sequels.

I've not seen Primer but I did watch Upstream Color at the weekend which is Shane Carruth's second film.

It's not a particularly easy film to watch because it's hard to follow what's going on and lot's of things are deliberately left open to viewer interpretation but I enjoyed it. The story line seems to be about a guy who discovers a way to use parasitic worms to control/manipulate the minds of other people, and there's something about a pig farmer who removes the worms from the first guy's victims and implants them into his pigs to help him compose music (?). The worms have the effect on the victims of making them lose parts of their memory/identity and allow them to connect telepathically (although they're not aware of it happening) to each other (and the pigs). Visually it's brilliant and the soundtrack (composed by Shane Carruth, who also wrote, directed and starred in the film) is suitably ethereal.

Good choices both of them. Dawn of the Apes is a great popcorn movie and I was glad to catch it at the cinema. I've not seen the newest one yet but I look forward to seeing it when it comes out on DVD.

I quite liked the first couple of Transformers movies bit that's probably because I watched them on Tv as opposed to a giant screen in 3D. Just thinking about it now is making me dizzy.

The more you watch films like Primer etc, the easier it'll be to understand them.

But supported by a well written story. Unlike Harry Potter which is sh*te!

Agree about Potter, but I just cant bring myself to watch the Hobbit films. The 3 or 4 people I know who have seen them all said the first one was good, the 2nd one was abysmal. It was the first book I really remember falling in love with.

Fair comment. I think you need to watch them and try and forget how good the book was. They have played more poetic license than they did with LOTR

The main thing that worried me was how on earth they managed to pad the book out to 3 two hour plus films. LOTR had plenty of thing from the silmarillion to add to the main story lines, and it was done pretty well mostly.

They are using some of the info from LOTR which bridges the time gap and making some up as well

That doesnt sound good at all, I think ill keep well away for now.

Seen all the Transformers films. Watched the last one in 3D. The kids loved it, and I thought it was good but the impact of the 3D effect was questionable. Only really works on cartoons as far as I'm concerned. Just another way to screw more money out of people.

Just got back from dawn of the planet of the apes. Good film, reminded why I don't usually go to the cinema on a Saturday though.

I went to see this yesterday. It was only ok. The first film was so good that this was never going to be any where near as good.
