I guess it's just the way she goes...

Ha ha. The first 2 films were very good so hopefully the 3rd one is too. Love bubbles, the dumb sh*t.

Sunshine on Leith. Seriously, guys, see it. Even if you're not a Proclaimers fan: see it. Even if you're not a fan of Edinburgh: see it. Even if you're a Scot-hating Sassanach: see it.

It's a musical but it doesn't venture into feel-good sappiness... well, it sort of does but how can a musical not. What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't deliberately venture into that territory, of course it ends with a sappy set piece but it fits. It deals with pretty heavy stuff: war, employment, infidelity, friendship, family, near-death experiences, etc. And, of course, relationships. Even if you don't normally go in for musicals you should see it because it's f**king fantastic.

And for my next number... This is England '86. Seen the original film? Yes? Continue. No? Stop fecking reading because you're about to venture into spoiler territory: you have been warned. Go and watch the film, then watch the series. So, for people who have seen the film but not the series I highly recommend it. A word of warning: it's heavy. Beyond heavy. If you thought the film was heavy in terms of themes, racism etc, you ain't seen nothing yet. Obviously the film dealt with the whole coming of age thing for Shaun and now that he's grown up he doesn't develop a great deal during the series, though he's still a main character. The film, of course, revolved around Shaun but the series is a chance for the other characters to shine. I shan't go into too much detail but I will say that the main storyline revolves around Lol and Woody. The first episode is fairly heavy, the second gets heavier, then the third, etc. It builds up to the climactic fourth episode expertly, the endings of 1 thru 3 leave you desperate for more. I couldn't not watch it in one sitting and I doubt many could, get a free afternoon and watch it all in one go. Then re-watch it with the commentary... that's what I'm about to do. Ah, the joys of university. It's, ahem, educational. Totally relevant to Economics, I'm learning about the socio-economic climate of mid-eighties Britain... ah sod it, who am I trying to kid? Seriously, watch it. After the film though if you've not seen it yet.

Go!

Godzilla.

I was pretty excited for this one so went to see it in IMAX 3D, the SFX are really good and let's be honest, what's not entertaining about giant monsters beating the sh*t out of each other.

Won't win any awards for originality or plot but I enjoyed it.

8/10

Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Ben Stiller stars and directs, really nice feel good movie probably one of the best things Stiller has done

8/10

I, Frankenstein

Aaron Ekhart plays Frankensteins monster whose still alive today beating up demons with some sticks, Bill Nighy turns up in his almost type cast head demon role.

Pretty fraff...

4/10

Rushmore

Been catching up on my Wes Anderson, nothing has topped Moonrise Kingdom so far but this was enjoyable none the less.

7/10

Wayne's World

Watched it again, it's still funny

8/10

30 Minutes Or Less

Jesse Essienberg and Danny McBride play their usual type cast roles in this comedy, I thought the premise was pretty decent of forcing someone to rob a bank for you by strapping a bomb to them, some funny bits, some not so funny bits.

6/10

Se7en.

Was alright, i knew there was some big twist or reveal at the end though, so unfortuntely guessed it pretty early on.

Saw the Wolf of Wall Street recently. Was quite funny but overrated and I disagree with celebrating the story of a man who has conned thousands of innocent people out of their savings

Im on Netflix and I'm disappointed with the choice of movies but for anyone interested :

The Office and the US Office I have found very funny in different ways.

Prison Break, Breaking Bad and Orange is the new black are all good. I will probably give 'House of Cards' a watch soon

Agree on Wolf of Wall Street, it's enjoyable but if anyone but Scorsese had made it I think the fan fare wouldn't have been as high.

Netflix isn't very good films, most of the better ones on there I would think most people have already seen, it's good for TV shows though and I would definitely recommend House of Cards which is superb.

I've been watching Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Arrested Development which are both very funny.

I'd also recommend given Archer and Modern Family a watch which are also very funny, especially Archer.

You and many others by the sounds of it.

Yes, it was a bit schmaltzy, and I was far from convinced of the historical accuracy.  Hollywood reinvention methinks.

Don't see Pompeii if Historical inaccuracies aren't your thing...!

Thanks!  I'll take your word for it and save my money.

When you say "was alright" is that in a just about ok sense or are you just understating things. Think it's a brilliant film. The scene where they went into the room with the sloth victim - we knew what was coming - but it still got us. Laughed at the way the cops all jumped and aimed their weapons at the gasping near-corpse like figure on the bed.

Spacey was great ad usual, even if he did have a comparatively small part.

I just didn't think it lived up to the reviews. It was a decent thriller, but nothing special. Spacey was good though.

You've only just watched se7en!

If that shocks you, i'd better not tell you that I've never seen a Star Wars film, an Indiana Jones film, or that I've only seen 1 James Bond film.

I'm currently watch American Beauty. I love this film. Haven't seen it for years.

It is wonderful to be able to agree with you, Uno!  American beauty is a brilliant film.

I have it on DVD and once lent it to an friend/acquaintance who returned it to me, horrified, because she thought it was about a middle-aged man abusing an innocent teenager.  I thought of putting her right, but...couldn't be arsed!

Blimey... I bet pop culture references go right over your head.

I am speechless.

In other news, watched Memento last night. I've seen it a few times before, but I thought it was due a re-watch. Utterly brilliant film.

I've seen the Family spoofs, so I basically get it.

I've not seen quite a few pop-culture films such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc. but I found it's possible to gain a passable knowledge of the plots and characters just through osmosis.

Go and see Godzilla Shed Enders, amazing.

Took Kids to see this today. Totally agree. Very well made, great effects, even in the skinflints 2D version. Not a fan of 3D, as only think it works properly in cartoons.
