That is terrible news as we approach the business end of the season. I am far from impressed so far by Yuri's defensive ability.

Agree it isn't good news, but we also have Patrick van Aanholt who has played most of his games at left back and, looking at his loan form, he would not let us down.

hes on loan at newcastle. f**ks sake, thats two of our best players out on long term injuries.

Thats really bad news, Ash has had a very good season and we will miss him in the CL games.

I too have not been too impressed with Yuri in the LB role although a run of games will hopefully do him good, comparing him to on form the best LB about is a bit unfair with the game time hes had so far.

Mourinho will be relieved he can try to exploit both our back up fullbacks so there will be a lot of weight on their shoulders for the Inter games.

Does this mean Ash will miss the CL final? ;)

That's another good option. I wonder... supposedly Bosingwa will be back in 3 weeks or so, is it too much to hope that Ivanovic could try out the left side?

I bet Wayne Bridge will be hoping Ashleys injury takes a little bit longer than 3 months to heal.

means terry and bridge reunited in the england team

I'd rather see Bosingwa out on the left. Remember how he completely dominated Messi from there last CL? Was beautiful to see. And it would probably be easier for Bosingwa to play on the left than it would be for Ivan. He's naturally a CB, teaching him how to play right back and then left back would take longer compared to Bosingwa, who it probably should feel quite natural for.

f**k SAKE what more can go wrong

C'mon, lets not go overboard. Take a look at the table. What would a Pompey fan make of that comment!!?

Though, it has to be said it's a big blow. Cole has been magnificent this season and if it's three months you only have to do the maths to realise we will be lucky to see him again in a blue shirt this season. Thoughts then turn to South Africa, and whilst I'm not hugely bothered about England I really don't want him rushed back like Rooney last time. You also only have to look at how Shevchenkos body simply never recovered from being played in a World Cup when not fit.

I haven't been overly impressed with Zhirkov but then again he hasn't really had a run of starts, which he is certainly going to get now. In that respect the jury is still out. But suddenly he becomes a key member of the team and simply has to step up.

Just now have this nagging feeling it's been a key 24 hours in our season. I posted last night that for the first time I'm begining to wonder if we have what it takes to finish above the three times champions, and now this...hmmm maybe it's just me but I'm starting to get some very bad vibes.

I am crestfallen hearing this. Short of JT, Drogba, or Cech, its hard to think of a more replaceable player for us this season. Really a terrible 24 hours, as you say bjd

If we are looking at recalling loanees, I say get Bertrand first.

If we are looking to solve this in house, I would like to try Yuri there before we give Bosingwa that job.

edit: I forgot about Hutchinson playing at LB. Im sure between Yuri and Bossie we will have cover enough, but with Cole we'd have undisputed quality with no adjustment

I cannot remember any hard tackles made on A. Cole, or any hard tackles that he made in the Everton match.

Does anyone know how this injury occurred yesterday?

It said it was during a challenge with none other than Landon Donovan. I missed it too, but from the pictures it seemed innocuous

I am absolutely livid at our training staff, and Im surprised none of you are.

Has no one else noticed that pretty much EVERY match this past month ACole has been limping?

Ive said many times "rest him rest him" and he has played in every match this month (as a sub 1 time).

This was something that was 100% avoidable, but now we lose the best LB in the world for our CL/domestic campaign.

Now you better believe we will struggle to win silver this season, weve all seen the difference when ACole is on the field, our attacking looks about 50 times more potent without any real sacrifice on defence.

Absolutely pissed at our training staff.

Disastrous news for both Chelsea and England. Ash may even miss the World Cup at this rate which means Capello will have to consider Bridge and JT in the same team.

Best wishes out to Ash and hoping he is bounces back sooner.
