bjd Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Didnt they say about 4-6 weeks, about 6 weeks ago. God do we need him, we just can't go into these big games with this lumbering midfield combo of mikel/ballack/lampard, we are suffering so much because of it. Essien should make a massive difference , especially against Inter. So, does anone have any idea?
Andreas Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I think for sure he will be back for the inter game.
Cam Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 As long as he doesn't come back too soon...we need him for the title charge.
sleepy_gonzalez Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 someone posted on another tread that injuryroom says he'll be back on the 27th. don't know if this is right though..
ethicalstrategy Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I think the original prognosis was that he'd be back for the second leg. The problem will be that he won't have had much match practice. Overall, I'd rather we erred on the side of caution. There is no sense in risking putting him out again for another long period. If he is properly fit then great, but I think we showed enough last night to be able to win without him.
go on kerry Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 im hoping he will be back asap as it would appear he is crucial to our midfield for the run in, still think carlo was wrong to have played such a strong team against apoel at home where he picked up his original injury.
Phillip Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Any news on the extent of Petr Cech's injury? From what I heard, it appears to be a calf strain, and not an ligament damage. But in any case, has the team provided an estimated return date for him yet?
Iceman Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Cech got a knock against Wolves at the weekend - had problems kicking for a while. Must have weakened it, and to play on it a few days later is not good. The same happened with Ashley Cole. Days before his injury, he got a knock to his ankle in the previous game when he scored his goal at SB. He had to go off. Does make you wonder if the CFC medical team are truly up to it - a lot of these lengthy injuries could be mostly avoided if rest is given when the warning signs are there !!

I agree, but then I think back to last season when he was out for ages, and one of his first games back he went up against Liverpool (and Gerrard in particular) and put in an absolutely sensational performance. I agree that we need to be careful with Essien, I'd argue he's our most important midfielder right now, but if he's available for the Inter game then it's an absolute must win, so I can imagine Carlo will do his best to include him.

mad_mac Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 had heard he was meant to be back on the 27th too....I hope so
clubhappy Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Cech out for a month [sky Sports news] Essien due back for Pompey game at the earliest [RTE Sport]

And even if we're considering resting players, these kind of matches - a CL knockout tie (Cech) and away at one of the Premiership's form teams (Cole) - are exactly where you take more of a risk to have your best players on the pitch. Weakening ourselves against Everton so we could play a stronger team against Wolves would've been insane.
Uno Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Does anyone know when he should be back? Cant be long now. I think we really are missing him.
coco Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I cant wait for Bossy and Essien to return, it will bring a breath of fresh air to the squad when they return, hopefully both will be available @ home to WH in 11 days time.
Bridgeman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 it will bring a breath of fresh air to the squad +1 Essien equals half chelsea
VG Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Looks like it is taking longer than expected to get Essien back which is a real disappointment. In his blog on the Chelsea site today he basically waffles: "Q: When are you returning to the pitch? Ess: I will be back as soon as I can. I hate being on the sidelines but at the same time I need to be patient and heal properly. Once the medical team give me the all clear you will see me doing my thing on the pitch." Which makes me think the return isn't so straightforward. Also, not sure how reliable this is, but on the Sporting Life site (http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/10/03/04/SOCCER_Chelsea.html) it says he won't make it back for the Inter return leg. Slight upside is that Bossie in light training, although it feels like ages ago that he started with that (mid-January, if I recall).
Alex Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Report in the sun today saying Ess is out for the season as well now.
PloKoon13 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 According to injuryroom.com, Ashley Cole's out until May. On top of Essien, Bosingwa, Cech, Deco, Belletti, Carvalho... I might have to go and put some money on Man Utd winning the title ¬___¬

clubhappy Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Season is going tits up . Cant get much worse than this , if we go on to win the Premiership it will be some f**king achievement.
bjd Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 Not convinced by this Sun story one bit. They seem to have based it all around a pic of him on crutches and nothing else. There are no direct quotes apart from by the normal 'club source' which means they are made up. Also why didnt Butch bring this up on Friday when asked about him? I would get too worried just yet...
mad_mac Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Agreed Barny, I don't totally believe "club sources" that are not named, especially in the sun. Hence I said "if this is true"
