Sergio Aguero hints at summer move to Chelsea

Sergio Aguero has given a strong hint he would like to join Chelsea, saying how much he admires players such as Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

The Atlético Madrid striker almost joined the London club last year for what would have been a British record £45m but the Spanish club raised the asking price late in the day.

Roman Abramovich is expected to make more than £100m available to the Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti, this summer – and Aguero will be at the top of his list of targets. The Argentinian, 21, is also wanted by Manchester United, Manchester City and Internazionale.

Atlético, who are resigned to losing Aguero in the summer, are poised to start a bidding war featuring Europe's biggest clubs.

Aguero was quoted in the Daily Express as saying: "I look at players like [Didier] Drogba and [Frank] Lampard and they have been – and still are – the best players in their positions in the world. I could really learn from players like that.

"Chelsea are a great club. They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years. London would be a really amazing city to live in as well – myself and my wife could be really happy there.

"Carlos Tevez is doing really well at Manchester City but for me it is about joining a club who are ready to challenge for honours. City are not ready yet."

Aguero was signed by Atlético in 2006 from Club Atlético Independiente in Argentina. In 2003 he had become, at 15 years and 35 days, the youngest player to appear in the Argentinian First Division – beating the record held previously by Diego Maradona – when he made his debut for Independiente.

I guess he's never heard of Xavi...

Good news but I wouldn't be suprised if "he" comes out in two weeks time and says how he'd love to play alongside Wayne Rooney, or how he'd love to be managed by Jose Mourinho. It's all about increasing the fee they can get for him. Really, it's a pity he costs so much in transfer and wages I'd like to have him with us next year.

he never say want inter

he always say great words for chelsea

i dont thing in today's have a better strike than him In same age

I wouldnt really say Xavi and Lamps are the same kind of midfielders. Maybe they were a little more similar in years past, but definitely not now.

Anyway, its encouraging news for sure to read that, but it will all be for naught if he has an excellent world cup. If he does, i'd say he will be unaffordable. At the moment, his value has definitely taken a hit I reckon, based on the off year he's had.

But I think he will move this summer, no question. I will likely make a bargain with some deity to sell my soul to make sure its here.

He couldn't have made it more obvious. Now i'm almost 100% sure that he'll play with us next season. I just hope we buy him before the WC, because all hell will break loose if we don't.

How often are these player comments made up, or not said by the player....very often....

I refuse to believe anything till it happens in transfer speculation.

Its just not going to happen and the quicker some of you try and accept it the better!

We will sign players for sure, but not at the money being suggested for Aguero, and thats just the fee.

The wages being talked about for him are absurd and our days of offering contracts like he wants are gone, gone, GONE.

I'm not so sure bjd.

The club know that a few of our key players will have to be replaced within the next couple of seasons and they also know that as good as some of our youngsters are, a lot of them will not be quite ready next season.

As long as we cut our wage bill by offloading a few of the current squad - Ballack, Carvalho, Kalou, Deco, Belletti, Paulo and maybe one of Drogba / Anelka, then we can easily afford an Aguero and I'm sure it wouldn't be on the wages that have been reported in the press. Maybe £100k a week until he proves himself?

I'll have my fingers crossed.

well I do hope you are right but I have my doubts !

You see it's very easy for us to make a list of players who we want out but we need to remember some of these players are still on fat contracts and won't be easy to get rid of. Take our mate kalou for example, I'd wager he is on around 80k a week , now where else is he going to get that?

Players at the end of the contracts , no problem , we can pat on the back and usher out the door, but I still think we are going to be left with a lot of dead wood in the summer which will be our own fault because we gave them fat contracts in the first place.

Im not sure if we will sign Aguero, but his signing would make a lot of sense. We do have an ageing squad and need to freshen it up and we also need the kind of player he is. At 22 He`s the right age and will be hungry for trophies.

Can we just PLEASE get this sodding deal done. Now!

No 'wait and see how his world cup goes', get him before City know whether they have 4th or not, and get him now!

Being serious, if his wages demands are ridiculous and he won't see sense, then I guess we have to walk away as I do believe we have to maintain some sort of structure, but I really really hope this isn't the case.

We simply cannot offer Aguero more than 130,140k a week without breaking the wage structure.

Terry and Lampard etc would not be happy if the young player comes in and earns 60-70k a week more than them.

That is a huge hint as to where he wants to be next season. We must act quickly on this one.

First real test for Big Ron?

You get these sort of stories every week in when the window is coming up. Dont know whether we will sign him or not, but i wouldnt read anything into this article at all

Yes please. I don't care about the wages, it's not my money - please uncle Roman, sign him up!!

Thank god all fans (and more importantly - the club!) aren't like me though ;)

wheather we sign him or not I just want his future sorted out quickly, I can't bare another 40 odd pages of a weak rumour, we had it last summer and I can't face it again.

If the Premier League had a wage cap I'd bite Madrid's hand off... however if he's going to want megabucks then I'd rather not... quality player, but Ballack started a bad trend and we don't want to see it get worse.

We've been linked to this player for some time. I think we are crying out for this sort of player ...creative, exciting, young. He was excllent against us in the CL.

Unfortunately, we are not in the same postion financially as we were a few years ago when money was no object and I think his wage demands will be a problem. There is conflicting reports about how much is available for transfers. Some papers are saying 100m others only 20/30m! I can see this player ending up at Real Madrid or Man City with his mate Tevez because these are the only two clubs in Europe prepared to carry on buying big and paying massive wages. Will we start to give our own youngsters a chance next season instead? As much as i'd like to see Aguero at our club i can't see it happenning.

Looks almost too good to be true his comments. Hope he don't take his words back today or claim he never said anything like this..

We have to remember the boy won't be firing with all cylinders the first season if he comes. Spanish league is such a different place. Remember his current strikeparter who visited ManU..?

I would be very happy if he comes. I was very happy when we got Robben. Young, full of energy and lots of skill!

It's he agent speaking....I think we all know by now how it works...remember Robinho....City want everyone we do because Cook has no clue, so unless we keep our transfer targets under the radar...(near on impossible) players like him will end up going to the highest bidder..what happened to the good old days of 'transfer swaps' we could have sent a few older players as part of the deal.

If his comments are anything to go by, he's already ruled Citeh out saying 'they're not ready to challenge for the biggest trophies yet'.

And as far as him taking time to settle down, remember Torres took the Prem by storm in his first season and he came from Atletico too. So we cant be sure either way. Anyway, this is the signing I'd love to see happen above anything else.
