loz Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien for me. Not just for the two goals but also for the fact that when West Ham looked like getting into the game it was he, more often than not, who won back possession and drove us forwards.
charierre Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 have to agree with Essien one of the ones to shine in a very lacklustre performance
The Brit Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien for me. Not just for the two goals but also for the fact that when West Ham looked like getting into the game it was he, more often than not, who won back possession and drove us forwards. I agree Loz, although there weren't many candidates to choose from
Ruh Buh Juh Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Not a great performance from the team as a whole has to be said, but Essien was excellent, but I thought Ramires had a great full debut and Mikel was great too.
Plavi26 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 JT for me, he has stopped to many opportunities and broke of many moves in the back.
BlueBeard Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I've gone for Essien as well, though JT had a good game. Ramires improved as the game went on, and Kalou wasn't bad. Apart from his cross for our third goal though, Ferreira really was awful.
loz Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 I am not so down on the performance as a lot seem to be. West Ham always raise their game against us, and in particular Parker. Add to that the fact that Foy seemed prepared for West Ham to commit 46 fouls to our one before contemplating booking a West Ham player. We certainly weren't at our best but we did more than enough to merit the win.
Cam Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien I suppose...even though he scored two goals, he didn't stand out much...but nor did anyone else. His leap for his second goal, was Cahill-esque.
Barry Bridges Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien was fantastic so it has to be him for me. I thought Ivan was solid as usual. I think the ref was fairly poor.
RegRabid Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Going for Ivanovic, more of an an aggregated vote.....I could not pick anyone else as having an outstanding match, but felt Ivan was, as Barry states, his usual solid self. Early days...but got a good feeling watching Ramires feeling his way in.
Tim W Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Not always his biggest fan but I thought JT was excellent today.

Parker was fantastic, how the ground announcer concieved to give their MOM to Obinna when he missed two sitters is beyond me. That said he and Behrami were doing their best van Bommel impersonations and Foy who I have a lot of time normally for, seemed to be happy to let it go. On the MOM front I voted for Essien who was excellent, a real dynamo as usual. Mikel who slowly starting to open up his passing game was also good, the ball he put in to release Paulo in the leadup to Essien's second was fantastic. JT was the other standout, Cole can't be an easy opponent but he did well even with a different partner to usual. It really showed when he went off.
bjd Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Jesus. We go to West Ham, win without breaking sweat and people are questioning the performance! This is West Ham we are talking about, any win against them is brilliant and today is no different. MOM has to be Essien. Good start for Ramieres to i thought.
Chippy Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Happy enough with that, we can't roll over all the bottom half teams and I think they've got a bit more about them than our first three opponents. Parker always plays well against us and he scored another blinder...shame he had that little bit of class missing in his game that could have given him a career here. a couple of lucky goals but the boys could have stepped it up had they needed to. Essien and JT stand out performers, Essien just gets it for me for his Goals.
Planet Drogba Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien. Him and JT were the only ones who I thought played really well. Mikel, Ramires, Cole, and Ivanovic were good, but not fantastic.

clubhappy Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Erm.... I haven't seen the highlights yet on MOTD. MOTD is on now so i'll see. But Essien got 2 goals and I was told he played well. I was told Kakuta came on. Happy for Kakuta This is Kakuta's season. Hope he gets 3 or 4 goals for the first team this season
aliboy66 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Essien for me welcome back we missed you last season well done
KrazyTea Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I was pretty sure this would be an open and shut case
