Joe Cole

Featured Replies

Joe Cole's Liverpool career dropped to new depths on Wednesday night when he was named in the side to face Manchester City in the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Seldom does any senior player ever appear in the competition, with the team usually made up entirely of youth players. Cole was named alongside Peter Gulacsi, John Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Stephen Darby, Danny Wilson, Michael Roberts, Dani Pacheco, Gerardo Bruna, Thomas Ince and Nikola Saric.

Those ten players have the sum total of seven substitute appearances in the Premier League between them, while Cole has made 238 starts with 82 games from the bench.

Cole played the first half of the match before being replaced at the interval

Steve Gerrard was obviously delusional when he stated Joe Cole was as good as Messi.

It was laughable how Liverpool fans got so excited about signing an injury prone, one trick pony, who could only make it as a squad player at the Bridge.

Hodgson has left Anfield with his tail beteween his legs and I believe Joe will soon follow in his footsteps.

I struggle to remember the good times we had with Joe... sad I know but it's how I feel. Perhaps he wanted to play to improve his fitness rather than it be seen as a shameful inclusion. I don't want to give him the benefit of the doubt but...

Joe has made 23 crosses in the games he has played 1 reached a fool player

True but Joe's "step overs to crosses" ratio is 4 to 1 so that's 92 step overs which for a bench player is not too shabby.

I dont know if its clarvoyance or he just saw the rumor, but TBB's comment about going on loan to west ham is exactly what I heard the other day. It would be hilarious. Joe is threatening to match the career declines of Sheva, Alan Smith, Yakubu, and Vicete if he keeps this up.

Hah! f**king idiots

Joe made a mistake in some the things he said when he joined liverpool...still amazes me what short memories people have over what he did for this club...I actually think it's sad his game appears to have gone...nothing to laugh about...I was at the Southend game when he got that serious injury...seem to remember people being quite gutted on here at the time...how times change

You're right there especially the comment about his game being gone. Funny though that a lot of us could see that yet he still got his big signing. In his final season with us he looked like he was playing from memory.

To be perfectly honest, I remember Joe having one good season for us (05/06) and before and after that he was very average. It could be just me, but I was never a big fan of him anyway, his move to Liverpool simply increased my already decided opinion of him.

Joe Cole against Man U, leaves 3 players for dead and slams the ball home. I will never forget that. I also remember him running riot for the entire season. Yes he went to the dippers, but he was a good player, who after a injury entered a sad decline. I feel people should not devalue the contribution he did make to Chelsea

Agree with Brit and Kev here. Did he soil his copy book with the manner of his departure and club of choice? A bit, yes. But to gloat over his obvious downfall and delight in his poor form seems a bit much. Can't we let it go? He's no Poyet.

people forget too that he barely got a game last season...some would say rightly given his form...but then why act with such condemnation that he left...

chelsea clearly didn't want him to stay...people keep saying it was just about money...well no-one complained when frank, jt etc got a payrise after being linked with moves away...if they valued him they would given him more money too, but they didn't...

besides Joe didn't want to be on the bench anymore...I personally think his biggest mistake was joining liverscum...he would have been better off staying in London and dare I say it being reunited with Harry at S****...at least he would have been playing for a club that is in form and a manager that believes in him...me thinks he will be back at west ham soon

Joe was a class player who I have lots of good memories of. The United goal is the standout but far from the only one. It's sad to see so many Chelsea fans now trashing him because he joined Liverpool when we didn't want/need him any more. I also find it laughable to suggest he only had one good season for us.

Joe Cole needs to leave Anfield and find himself a challenge at a mid-table club with promise where he can play his game with a boss who'll let him and team mates that'll appreciate his talents.

Now, if only there was a mid-table club with promise ..............

His goals against the dippers comes to mind as does the goal at home against United '06, the goal at Old Toilet last season and his cross to Drogba in Munich in '05.

Have always seen him as an integral part of the 04/05 and 05/06 winning team and will forever be grateful for his contributions to Chelsea FC.

However he was injury prone for the last couple of seasons and thought he was a bit unrealistic demanding higher wages to sign a new contract with us.

He never really came back from the injury last season, bar the goal at OT.

Shame to see his decline to be honest but I'm not surprised. Deserves a proper welcome when the dippers comes to town in a couple of weeks.

I was happy as a pig in sh*t when Joe Cole left Chelsea, only thing I was unhappy about was he didn't leave two years before. On his day he was great, but those days were very rare, most of the time he'd spend the game trying step-overs and tricks which rarely came off. The most infuriating thing was that he'd try these tricks when we were losing with about 10 minutes left, very much a player who put himself before the team.
