I think I am finally priced out

Featured Replies

That's football in the modern world for you. They are only interested in getting as much money as possible, not whether or the fans can afford such high prices. There will be plenty of businessmen and their clients who will take up the tickets I expect.

As a member, I'm seriously considering getting a season ticket, works out much cheaper. I also think I'm finally priced out, particularly with no concessions.

I could get a season ticket for my local side to see 40+ matches, for the price of about 3 Chelsea tickets against average opponents.

Think i'll do that instead next year.

You have to wonder about the PR machine at Chelsea.

We knew the price hike was coming but to announce it just after our hunt for silverware this season ended. Who makes these decisions...

As for the prices ? Cheapest ticket for games again Utd, City, Liverpool, Spuds and Arse is now £56 ? For members !

f**k me sideways.

Ticket prices are such a joke. Werent the champs league group stage tickets a bit lower this year as well?

Anyone got any info on other teams prices for next year?

I can't remember exactly how much I paid for my season ticket last year but basically 3 seasons ago it is around the 750 mark (MHU) next year 880 ... about 13% increase, yet we were cost cutting as a club and inflation is about what 4% ... has been 3%.......

Just getting hard for a family man end of story, I have felt privileged (I know many of you cannot afford or just cannot make it to the Bridge) I have been able to find the money for so many years, but it is becoming too much of a big decision...

Depressing :(

Its a huge decision Andy, id advise you really give it good thought before doing it.

I gave up mine in 2005 after the first League win for practical and financial reasons (you've got to factor in i live in Warwickshire). Id had it for the best part of ten years so it was a real tough thing to do and though the next season i went to so many matches the cost of the individual tickets i purchased was more than what keeping the season ticket would've cost me!!!

So i totally regretted doing it.

But with prices as they are now i wouldn't be able to justify it, as it stands 6-7 home matches a season is enough for me now. As someone has already said home PL games are not what they were, we have long since sold our soul (before Roman really) and the best matches tend to be (non CL) evening games or the Cup games with lower league opposition who bring 5k and create a great atmosphere, these games also mean a lot of the more 'hardcore' older fans get to go because of the cheaper price.

Its going to be interesting to see just how many people do renew or do cancel, some of these prices as exorbitant, surely now, almost on a par with the Emirates ? If we do end up moving to a new stadium (which i think we all agree if a case of when and not if) i can only imagine what sort of prices we will be looking at.

I think everyone who is in your position should write a long personal letter to Roman explaining exactly why in spite of your long love for Chelsea you are simply unable to go on forking out these huge sums year after year. Yes, I know a letter marked personal still doesn't go to him, but you have to hope that if the club is inundated with these letters from long-term supporters someone there will mention to Roman that they are receiving an overwhelming number of criticisms.

In fact, if anyone on this site is a Russian speaker (Virosh, are you fluent in Russian?) maybe we could be given a standard letter in Russian expressing our dismay at the hike in prices.

What do you expect when squad players earn in the region (probably low) 30,000+ a week and the stars are on 150,000. I hate to think how much Gourlay and his cronies are pocketing.

The price of success - or attempted success at least.

I've not been to a home fixture for years now. Living up norf and not being a company MD, GP or a solicitor (and the like) most of my wage goes on the essentials of food and energy these days. I don't even have Sky - have to go to friends or pubs to watch matches. Sorry, this isn't meant to be a sob story.

I can't figure who the 40'000 people are who go to the Bridge these days. Most of the lads I used to go with stopped mainly for financial reason in the late 90's and now just attend 2 or 3 games a year at best. I hear it said that the West stand is full tourists these days. Maybe that partly explains the lack of atmosphere that comes across on the TV. You just can't buy an atmosphere.

Sat in West Stand for the first time ever against United last week and it was just full of businessmen and tourists, in stark contrast to the game at Old Trafford where the hardcore and partisan support was and still is.

Know how you feel, it's beyond a joke. Just remember your no less of a supporter if you don't go to games. I will be renewing for next season, I'm lucky I know that but the fact the club just wants more and more out of its fan and gives less back and we all thought ken bates was bad.

For all of football's problems in the past, which have led to alll the 'improvments' in todays game,I never thought years ago, that the cost of addmission and who could afford to pay these prices, would ever become such a concern.

Unfortunately me and my dad were priced out quite a few years ago. It was costing us around £250-£300 a match and a full day of travelling or 2 days with a stay and we couldnt afford it. We get to several away matches each season now (Wigan, Blackburn, Sunderland etc) but the last home match we got to was 2 seasons ago.

Think I'll stay at home and have a w**k instead. At least the bloke in the seat in front of me will be relieved he won't need his jacket dry cleaned anymore.

Andy, just the other day you were telling me how happy you were you could still go to our home matches, despite family obligations! Can't you compromise in renewing only one of your STs?

As expected the Independent takes the highest figure on the page and runs with it Link

The thing about that £87 figure is that if you arent a member you aren't going to get a ticket to those category AA games anyway. But the ticket prices are still far too high.
