Yeah Sport on 2 was my choice of football listening back then. The great Peter Jones was the main football commentator and a young Alan Parry .

Pretty sure I remember only one other Chelsea supporter at my secondary school. He was in the year above me.

We had mostly Liverpool, Spurs, Nottingham Forest (well it was the late 1970s and early 1980s), Man Utd and a couple of Arsenal fans.

It was our English team. Being in the West of Scotland we only got Scottish football highlights as our main football highlights. With the main English game shown near the end.

That's why Football Focus and On the Ball was so important to me back then.

Forgot to mention the last pic amongst the Liverpool pics is v Leeds in 1972.

That was a great day, on and off the pitch

For me being down in West Sussex, Brighton were the local team, with usual Liverpool, utd, forest, few Ipswich, spurs and arse, 82/83 when we nearly went down, Brighton got to the cup final, my life was hell!! Most of  my mates went to Wembley, was i relieved when they got stuffed in the replay, the following august bank holiday we bought 8 to 10k down to Brighton, took the piss and won 2-1, the rest is history as they say, don't mind Brighton now, except when we play them this season

The Liverpool game in 82-  I was in my last year at school, but courtesy of me older brother and his Austin Marina I'd just started getting used to getting driven up there, and parking somewhere round about the gasworks round Imperial Square, which beat the crap out of the rigors of public transport.

Cut a long story, even though we left well early, we got nowhere near our usual berth- soon as we crossed Wandsworth Bridge it was a struggle to find anywhere- this was when you could park anywhere anywhere up to the KR.- Reckon we got in the Shed bout half one; bundles of school mates never made it in.

Fast forward to when they won the double in 85- dippers galore on the Arab end of Edgware Road after the game, targeting Jewelry stores ( there's a shock)

Our lot caught up with them, and a good time was had by all I'm led to believe   

Great how we even went into the part of the North stand that wasn't redeveloped for safety certificate 1978/79. Seem to remember with the help of pictures the North stand boys running across towards the dippers. Strange how the segregation was a police line and not by pen sections.

Hadn't noticed! But now I see that the old Main Stand was demolished and work had just started on building the current one.

Plenty of harrow and South harrow's finest in there that day even though we didn't get along with each other normally.mutual hatred for the dippers took precedence.bundles of "free Joe Pearce" flyers being chucked in the air whilst all the shenanigans were going on.during a lull in the trouble,OB managed to create a no man's land gap in their section which just gave everyone space to get a run up kick off again.not the best crowd control tactics.

 

 

I'm sure a few of us would like to do what Spackman did to Keown.

I was gobsmacked when he whacked him, but delighted that Spackers had that mean streak tucked away somewhere.

I must say I do approve of the image of Spackman givin some back to some back to old monkey features Keown- strange looking fella with a tiny little creased up forehead- he always reminds me of something you get on your windscreen at Longleat Safari Park.

On a serious note, anyone else noticed that pretty much all Arsenal fans you encounter on the tube going to games are almost always  loner/ intellectual/ misfit types, who nine times out of ten are on their own and wearing glasses.

Yes totally agree, i think it was a blessing that the 20k cologne fans were playing Arsenal last Thursday  as the gooners support hardly has an aggressive bone in them unless they are behind a computer screen, imagine if cologne turned up at Chelsea, West ham or millwall, that would of been interesting!

Top row Droy, Hudson, Garland, Hinton. 2nd row Webb, Dempsey, Harris, Cooke. 3rd row The King, Baldwin, Boyle. Bottom row Phillips, McCreadie, Kember, Hollins, Mulligan and Bonetti. Hard for me to forget this team as it was my first season going to the match.

Thanks mate. Sorry, I was referring to Houseman in the black and white photo I posted earlier. Thanks for all the names. I was trying to work out who was hidden behind getty images. A wonderful team.
