Was at this game. If I remember correctly the crowd wasn't big which was a shame for such a great player and servant of the club.

I can't recall many testimonials after John's. The only one I can think of is the one for Eddie.

Can anyone think of any others. Cheers.

Paul Elliott vs Porto

Eddie Niedzwecki 83/84 vs 88/89

Kerry Dixon vs  Spuds.

Kevin Hitchcock had one vs Forest

Steve Clarke vs PSV

Dennis Wise vs Bologna

Franco vs Real Betis

Apart from Johny Bs 1987 Pates’s 1988 Eddies 1989 The others were 90s Franco’s 2004

Testimonials never got big crowds I never went to any although that's cause as a schoolboy you saved your money for league and cup games. Dennis Wise had one about 99 I think it was the game was on that Live TV station the one with the topless darts and bizarrely had Eric monster monster Hall as co- commentator. Zola had one which I went to although it was advertised as a celebration match or something.

Thanks for the info guys. Can't believe I forgot about the testimonials in the nineties. Too much beer?! I must have been at a few of them. I was at Franco's game. I think he came on for the last 20 minutes or so and nearly scored from a free kick. Mourinho's first game at the Bridge?

It may have been at Eddie's testimonial but Graeme Souness made a guest appearance. Graham Roberts was playing for us and the game was not long after Roberts had left Rangers after falling out with Souness.  They were on opposing sides and I remember thinking it could be tasty if they went in for a tackle.

There was a tackle in front of the west stand between the two. The crowd roared and they laughed and shook hands!

Thanks. I'd forgotten about the tackle and what happened after. I think I was standing near the old tea bar for that game so would have been not far from where it happened.

Cheers Boyne.

You're welcome. Reading the article I hadn't realised that Paddy Mulligan was teetotal. Great line from the Leader of the Team about the crates of lager being taken into the recording studio,

1967. Pre FA Cup dinner. I wonder in which year this event started and finished. I can't recall it happening. Perhaps because it was the first all-London Cup Final

Apologies for posting a picture with Spurs players in it.

The infamous Paul Canoville game probably the last programme I bought started buying fags instead. I saw someone on Twitter recently say that Chelsea fans weren't booing Canners but the decision to sub Clive Walker that is total bollocks and straight out of the Johnson/ Cummings excuse book.

These pictures are Newcastle at Spurs 87 the reason I'm posting them is there are Geordies on Twitter saying how bad the crush was and how stupid the old bill were having an empty pen until eventually opening it. Anyone who was at our game against Spurs in the same season will know what exactly what they went through we had to jump over the fence to escape the crush the same happened against Arsenal the same year. I remember the Chelsea Independent saying at the final whistle there were loads of trainers and shoes at the front of the Park Lane where people had lost them in the crush.

When we played Spurs that season it was early in the season don't know when Newcastle played them but obviously the old bill didn't learn their lesson or more likely just didn't gave a toss about football fans.
