Regarding Ray Wilkins. I was reading an old cutting from a match v Liverpool in October 1977 and ir stated that Liverpool had had a bid of £350,000 on the table for a year for Ray Wilkins.

In 1976 that would have been a British record transfer fee.

When I ever see his face it always takes me back to happy times, my youth, the 1980's, and casual clothing, for a manager who was only with us for about 3 years he is still revered by many of a certain age. "Jonny Neal's blue and White army"

Didn't we relegate them ?

We did. We beat 2-0 in the last game of the season. If Bolton had drawn against us Everton would have beaten relegated instead: Everton drew at home to Wimbledon. A strange game at the Bridge. Chelsea fans hoping that Bolton would score an equaliser when we were winning 1-0. Jody Morris scored a second goal near the end - it is the only time I can recall a Chelsea goal being booed.

John Neal will always have a special place in Chelsea supporters of a certain age.

He turned us round and gave us our respect back.

Remember how good 1983/84 was in contrast to the relegation fight to Division 3 of the previous season.

John Neal gave us a team to let us hold our heads up.

Indeed. John Neal was a great manager and built a great team with some wonderful players.

Stamford Bridge:

Ah, the old dog track. I think the standard distance was 500 yards. When it was frosty and the ground was rock hard, they'd put down straw! It was frantic then with the programme starting at 6.15 p.m. We'd get the first four races then motor across to White City for the first race at 7.45 p.m.

King of Stamford Bridge:

About thirty years ago I got an old video for Christmas of match of the day of the 70's, played it a few days after Christmas, it was showing all the goals, this one came on, and as Ossie fired it in a roar came from behind me as my old man standing in the sitting room doorway shrieks ' get in there Ossie'!!

Looks like the 1945 game v Moscow Dynamo if the spectators standing on the roof of the old Main Stand is anything to go by.

Might be wrong.

I think you're right. I zoomed in on the picture and saw a couple of soldiers waiting to go in. There is also a poster advertising the next fixture: home to Spurs. I checked the fixtures for 1945 and we did play Spurs a few days after playing Moscow Dynamo.
