May 31, 20179 yr Regarding Ray Wilkins. I was reading an old cutting from a match v Liverpool in October 1977 and ir stated that Liverpool had had a bid of £350,000 on the table for a year for Ray Wilkins. In 1976 that would have been a British record transfer fee.

If Bolton had drawn against us Everton would have beaten relegated instead: Everton drew at home to Wimbledon. A strange game at the Bridge. Chelsea fans hoping that Bolton would score an equaliser when we were winning 1-0. Jody Morris scored a second goal near the end - it is the only time I can recall a Chelsea goal being booed.

"Jonny Neal's blue and White army" John Neal will always have a special place in Chelsea supporters of a certain age. He turned us round and gave us our respect back.
May 31, 20179 yr Remember how good 1983/84 was in contrast to the relegation fight to Division 3 of the previous season. John Neal gave us a team to let us hold our heads up.

May 31, 20179 yr Agree with that, but like so many times in our clubs history events overtook and we somehow rescued disaster from the jaws of success...its in the DNA I tell ya

It was frantic then with the programme starting at 6.15 p.m. We'd get the first four races then motor across to White City for the first race at 7.45 p.m.
May 31, 20179 yr Looks like the 1945 game v Moscow Dynamo if the spectators standing on the roof of the old Main Stand is anything to go by. Might be wrong.

I think you're right. I zoomed in on the picture and saw a couple of soldiers waiting to go in. There is also a poster advertising the next fixture: home to Spurs. I checked the fixtures for 1945 and we did play Spurs a few days after playing Moscow Dynamo.
June 1, 20179 yr Wonder how many took a 'sick day' off work to attend this match ? It was played at 2.15pm on a Monday afternoon!
