Doom and The Devision didn't send out preview copies and they were two of the better games to come out this year (in my opinion). I just think some developers have realised they don't need favourable reviews to help sell their games, they can create enough hype through marketing. By not sending out preview copies it helps avoid big spoilers etc leaking and ruining the experience. Personally it doesn't bother me and I think we're going to see it more often... If you need a review to help decide if you'll buy a game, then you can always just wait a week or two after a release to pick it up. Doom is bloody brilliant. More and more reviewers seem to be click bait, as seen by one review for Forza Horizon that was 2 out of 10 and his main argument seemed to be "it isnt Dirt Rally so I dont like it"
October 7, 20169 yr The problem with some reviews is that it is just one person giving their impressions. I tend to go with sites who have multiple people giving their thoughts over just one guy. Or even better a podcasts. In this day and age most games should give us betas to get an early feel for the games but few offer it. On another note Resisdent Evil re-mastered is available to PS Plus members this month!

Their reviews are awful, often far too critical of games for the most random of reasons. Like you say, it's probably a click bait thing because if they're the one bad review people will click out of morbid curiosity. 2 hours ago, Chelsbear said: The problem with some reviews is that it is just one person giving their impressions. I take most of my game news/opinions from Kinda Funny. It's two guys who used to work for IGN but set up their own company, they do a Playstation podcast that's very good. Started playing Resident Evil last night, I haven't played it since it first came out twenty years ago on my Uncle's Playstation and I never played it for more than 30 minutes at a time. So really it's the first time I've played it with the intention of trying to finish it... I played an hour last night and I feel like I'm already lost. Good HD upgrade though, looks pretty decent graphically.
October 7, 20169 yr I never played the first one for some reason, was the second one I played and loved it. I will give this a shot over the weekend. Decent for a freebie I suppose.
October 7, 20169 yr The remastered Day of the Tentacle is 50% off on Steam. If you played the original you know you want to play it again. If you did not then you don't know but you want to play it. And you should.

Generally I prefer player-based reviews, where it averages out the ratings of lots of players. Neither are great though, with individual reviewers you get only one person's opinion and that can be biased. And with the player ratings, obviously you get a lot of garbage data from people rating things stupidly. But overall I tend to prefer to judge whether a game is going to be any good or not on how its been rated by the people who actually played it.

I notice from the video you posted that the clips were from Xbox so maybe that version is a lot worse than the PS4 version? Initial impressions for me are, the story and the way the story is told (documentary style cut scenes) is very good, a lot better than the majority of open world games. Gameplay is decent, stealth take downs are far too easy though as the AI is pretty poor. World is a bit empty, the map is big but they've barely filled it with anything beyond collectibles. It's a good game, worth playing after such a long dry spell of decent single player games but you do get a sort of de ja vu in that you feel like you've seen and done it all before...
October 10, 20169 yr Xone I played it on at the weekend. The car flipping and just appearing out of nowhere was a common one I kept seeing and there was a few incidents where things would just shape shift about. Cut scenes look superb, probably the best I have seen but I still think GTA last gen looked more impressive. I don't think it's got a long term shelf life.
October 10, 20169 yr That's a shame. Was looking for to it. Maybe get it when it's come down in price.
October 11, 20169 yr I wonder how many hours of my life i've wasted scanning planets on Mass Effect 2. Not enough.
October 12, 20169 yr Playing Forza Horizon 3 for the first time and it's is quality. From early impressions it'll be the best car game I've ever played, ahead of Need for Speed Most Wanted. Found the first of the hidden classic cars - a Ferrari Dino. My main car is a Nissan GT-R.
October 13, 20169 yr I'm seriously fed up with the new fifa, can't get on with it at all. I'm looking at buying some single player games as i haven't got into one for years (Old Assassins Creeds). Can anyone recommend any good ones for Playstation 4? Looked at Mafia 3, any other good ones? Doesn't need to be a new release.

Im currently banging around in a souped up version of the Holden ute barn find thing, its a bloody great laugh.

I would guess you might have played the Uncharted series, and the Last of Us (considering they are widely acclaimed PS titles), but if not, you should. I fairly recently binged on some games I got with my PS4, which I had never played. I played Watchdogs, and I found it enjoyable enough (though a lot less polished than the previous games I mentioned). Unlike you I'm playing fifa, and enjoying it by and large, but I haven't played fifa games for a couple of years. I played the journey, and have a season of player career mode under my belt, and have started a Chelsea manager career too. Not enjoying ultimate team too much, but I decided I wasn't spending any money on it, so ehh. I think it was fifa13 that was the only time I spent any money on that game mode. Goddamn pack games, can be hard to break the hold they can get off you...had to do it with Hearthstone too.

Which would you recommend first? I think the reason i'm not enjoying Fifa is because i solely play Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs usually, both of which aren't great this year. Career mode seems good though.

October 14, 20169 yr 5 minutes ago, RIP Mourinho said: Never heard of Heavy Rain, what's that about? Long story short; you play as 4 characters, one of the characters sons goes missing, you play as all 4 characters trying to crack the case - you control every decision and it affects the overall outcome. It originally came out on ps3 but was remastered for PS4 about a year ago. It's one of my favourite ever games without a doubt.
October 14, 20169 yr Heavy Rain is quality, although hard to play again since you know who the killer is then.
