Kevin De Bruyne

Featured Replies

^ If we can get him back in Jan I'm sure we will do so. Mr Potato Head will ensure it, particularly as we are light in midfield, we will be going for top 4, playing the Europa, and De Bruyne looks a fantastic player. He'll be with us in Jan, make no mistake about that.

If so we would do well to move back to 4-3-3, that's what he's been playing at Bremen. Not sure how he'd fare in a pivot, something to try out though.

watching these compilations im confident that hed do well as a part of the midfield 2, ofc the other CM would have to be a good ballwinner

Bremen's formation is more of a 4-5-1 (or 4-1-4-1 if you prefer) than a 4-3-3. Their wide players play deeper than you'd expect in a 4-3-3, where the wingers are closer to being wide forwards, and they have one holding midfielder who plays behind Hunt and de Bruyne. I don't see any problem with him transitioning to the pivot based on the way Bremen lines up.

Right, but isn't he one of the more forward central midfielders in the 4-5-1/4-1-4-1 whereas in the pivot he would be playing alongside a holding player behind an attacking midfielder like Mata or Oscar?

The way that the pivot functions is not radically dissimilar to the way that Hunt and de Bruyne's partnership works. They play further forward and have a DM behind them, but many fundamental elements of the systems are similar. He's still operating alongside one other CM and they still have offensive and defensive responsibilities. There'd obviously be some adjustment necessary, but I see no reason we'd need to change our formation to suit him.

If Chelsea convinces Lampard to play for Werder for one seaons plus another season as an option, fine by me. :)  (But since I doubt we could realistically pay Lampard, I'd rather that Chelsea decides to let Kevin stay another season with us. ;) )

It wasn't. Especially not for our Kevin.

heard he had a good game inspite of the tonking they suffered

I was in the stadium. To me he was one of the three players on our side that at least some of the time tried to work against the (painfully embarassing) loss, but 2 or 3 of 10 field players is not enough...

Kevin is playing a really important role here, he is amongst the best 2 or 3 players in our games regularly.

To echo Lane, thank you very much for taking the time to come here and let us know how he's doing.

No problem.   I think I might post in this thread at least after each match about how he's done.

Annecdote from yesterdays training: One of our CB's tackled Eljero Elia (dunno if you know him) pretty hard, he had to go to the hospital after the training for a check-up (but is fine again). Kevin commented on this by saying "it's always the same". Seems like he's a bit frustrated with how hard that CB is going in training. Apparently one of our GK's then said something to Kevin about Chelsea, to which Kevin responded "don't talk about Chelsea!", he was pretty mad. Our trainer took him aside and tried to calm him down (and tell him the CB actually didn't hit Elia, but Elia hurt himself.. not sure what the correct english term is... :) ), but it seems like Keving was still sour after training.

Just thought I might put this annecdote in, as I'm answering anyways. Nothing major, but I think it shows how much Kevin is concerned with every bit of the professional sports life, not just the games.

Ok, here it goes. We (Werder) lost yesterday vs. our arch nemesis, Hamburg. 3:2 (Match was in Hamburg)

Our Trainer / Manager (Thomas Schaaf)tried a different formation than usually which ended up putting KdB on the left wing. A position in which he doesn't play as good as he does in the center, we've seen that in previous games. But it seems Schaaf thought this was necessary. As the few times he played there before Kevin was much less active. Not one of his better games, he didn't prepare as many goal opportunities as usually and in general couldn't bring his skill into play. Also it seems to me he didn't run as much as he normally does.

He had the opportunity to equalize for us, but it was a kind of different ball. A cross came in and bounced off the ground so it was slighlty above waist height I'd say when Kevin could reach it. He decided to try and lean down to head it in, but the ball flew above the goal. This was roughly 4-6 meters from the Hamburg goal. :-/

Also I should add that one goal by Hamburg was highly irregular (the player used his arm to take the ball with him), the third goal was slightly off-side, but I don't think the linesman is at fault here, it was really hard to see.

So, that was my little KdB report. Hopefully he will play in his normal position next game. (Also we lost our right winger (Marko Arnautovic) for the next match, 2x yellow... great... *sigh*)

How's that one working out, David?

Thanks for that piece of Information.

It's surprising to me we paid for Marin and gave Bremen De Bruyne on loan.

Apparently, Kevin at 21 is one of the best players at Bremen.

Given the present thread bare situation of our squad it is important we recall him.

Really appreciate your weekly updates on KDB mate! Thanks very much for doing that for us. I'm really eager to see what he's like in a Chelsea shirt. From what I've seen, he could be a fantastic player for us. We've not really had a natural passer of the ball in midfield, a Xabi Alonso/"quarterback" if you will, and I see KDB's future being in this role.

They're entirely different types of player and I don't think anyone expected De Bruyne to do as well as he is.  If he were here he'd have probably spent the season on the bench.

I don't understand why De Bruyne was left out on loan.

It is a shame he was not given an opportunity to prove himself.

He has proven he's a real threat from a midfield position.

Yes, because he was given the opportunity to play the position consistently whilst on loan in a high quality league. Still, the Bundesliga is a step down from the Premiership. KDB almost certainly wasn't going to go straight from Belgium to the Premiership and have success. Even if we pretend he was ready for the jump, do you really think he'd have played consistently enough to prove himself? Whether he keep a player or loan him out, it seems there's always somebody second guessing the decision. The club got this one right.
