Kevin De Bruyne

Yes, because he was given the opportunity to play the position consistently whilst on loan in a high quality league. Still, the Bundesliga is a step down from the Premiership. KDB almost certainly wasn't going to go straight from Belgium to the Premiership and have success. Even if we pretend he was ready for the jump, do you really think he'd have played consistently enough to prove himself? Whether he keep a player or loan him out, it seems there's always somebody second guessing the decision. The club got this one right.

Agreed. The mistake we made was letting both Essien and Meireles go. Both aren't spectacular by any means but we could really have done with either of them in recent times.

As much as Meireles frustrated me to no end last season with his barrage of misplaced passes and poor decisions, I think we've been missing his grit this season in midfield, particularly while Frank was injured.

On topic: Has anyone been watching KDB play on a regular basis at Bremen and could tell me how he's doing? Is he looking top class over there? Is he standing out?

Yes, he's been one of the best CMs in the Bundesliga. As long as Schaaf doesn't get any more bright ideas and tries him out wide or up front again, he should continue to kick ass.

This.

But he also has kind of a high ratio of bad passes sometimes. So I think this year in a stronger league will be really good for him, if it teaches him when and when not to try a high risk, high reward pass. But yeah, usually when the rest of the team does not perform horrible ( = he has people to play with) he sticks out.

When I said he'd be with us in Jan, I meant January 2016, you bloody idiot.

...While playing for another team, having just moved after 6 other loans..

There isn't too much to say about Kevin's match yesterday, but I want to keep the weekly thing going, so:

Kevin played very solid yesterday but a little bit more defensively I'd say than usually. So he was very important in the center just distributing the ball, a task he fulfilled very good in my oppinion. In direct tackles he was a tad bit weaker than usual, but in the end this didn't turn out to be bad, because quite frankly our opposition was just bad yesterday.

"In Bremen, I do not even talk of Chelsea", he continued.

"What I am interested in at the moment is picking up more points with Werder.

"Recently, a Chelsea scout came to see me play against Hamburg, talked to me for five minutes after the game, with the message ‘well, your progress continues’."

If true, congratulations Chelsea, yet another f**k up.

Match performance today:

You know.. one of those games where it's hard to rate a player. On the one hand he wasn't as good as he was on other times, quite a few bad passes. I'd say he was solid most of the time.

But on the other hand he had 1 assist and made the 4:1. (That goal was quite nice to look at, if you have the time and find it on youtube or sth.)

All in all it was solid-good, but could've been better.

well, you obviously cant expect him being great all the time, right? i hope he'll come back from the loan soon...

Watching Werder play Freiburg right now and De Bryune is running Werder's midfield like a boss. He just made an assist after a decent pacey dribble, but his overall play is magnificent. He is energetic, aggressive and always forward-looking with his passes. I can't wait to see him in blue and it's not even HT yet.
