Chelsea v Bayern Munich (CL Final) 19/05/12 KO 19:45 BST

Featured Replies

We are the underdogs there is no doubt about it. Bayern is great at home but they were solid yesterday as well. They have all the pressure in the world...If we get a good start to the game anything is possible.

It is also very hard for DiMatteo to come up with a game plan in this one. Barca was sort of easy to setup but against Bayern that will not do. They have big guys and wingplay and their midfield pressure is lot lower than Barca's is. Different setup altogether.

It is one game so we have a great chance to make history once more!

Actually two teams in similar scenario's. Both teams have no chance of winning the domestic title and both teams with almost same players have lost their previous CL final.

Love him, think he'll be their main threat too. Judging from last night he plays on the right - I'm confident Ash will get the better of him, we shall see.

Hopefully he'll be injured by then.

Will never forget sitting in the Fulham end when he single handily took them apart.

In a CL final you expect to play against players of his caliber so I'm not worried. If not him, we'd have played against Ronaldo, DiMaria, Ozil, Benzene etc. We've already taken care of the best player in the world so this should be OK. I'm confident Cole would be good enough for him.

I was hoping to get Madrid as I felt we could get at them better, but as the night went on the more it dawned on me how the build up would go, all about Jose and whether it could affect the players we have who were at the club when Jose was here. Also, once the bookings came for Munich it became obvious that they were better for us as an opponent. Either way it was always gonna be difficult, but our boys have shown they will give everything they have to win this game.

He just needs a reducer early doors.

Franks the man for the job.

I wonder if we can sign that big unit who was at Blackburn who took him out in a game? But yeah, has the heart of a small rodent so an early leveller should quieten him right down.

dOne of Bayern's least worrying players, mainly because he is such a known quality against us. Cole certainly seems, more comfortable against wingers that attempt to cut in and shoot whereas more orthodox wingers such as Valencia have torn him.

Ribery on the other hand is facing a,much inferior player in Bosingwa, who'll match him for pace but is usually outfoxed by clever movement which Ribery had in spades.

Gomez is also a big threat, pun not intended. Obviously a deadly striker.

No, for me the biggest threat from Bayern lies in midfield. Scweinsteiger and Kroos are as good as any of our midfielders on the ball and won't allow us any space off it.

You can't sit back against this mob, but as their league form shows teams that attack them generally prosper.

This will be an extremely hard match to watch.

I popped onto betfair.com a moment ago just to look at the odds and Bayern thus far are massive favourites.

This of course means nothing, if we can draw 2-2 in the Nou Camp with 10 Spartans we can do it.

I think cole can cope with him.

Mikel in the middle keep kroos at bay and I think he might play malouda on the left to try and help with that side threat!

So, within 10 days in may we have the following games:-

FA cup Final - 5th May

FA youth cup Final - 9th May

Champions League final - 10th may

That`s 10 days that could go down as legendary in our clubs history, 10 days that we will all remember being a part of. Oh baby, I cant wait.

I never would have believed us making a CL final thread after all that we've been through this season. It seems that most of you would prefer Bayern to Real Madrid in the final?

works for me, gonna put my money on chelsea. not because im a supporter but i genuinely feel we have a good chance of winning. i dont see bayern as favorites even in the slightest

CL Final is on the 19th, mate!

For Bayern's missing players from goal.com:

David Alaba:

Bayern have had full-back problems for several years, but over the last couple months, Alaba has emerged as a long-term solution. His partnership with Franck Ribery on the left, coupled with his impressive defending and athleticism have made him a permanent fixture in the Bayern team. In his stead, Bayern will likely use Rafinha at right-back, with Philipp Lahm switching to the left. The Brazilian possesses attacking quality, but has proved to be a liability in defence, and rightly lost his starting role. Alaba will be sorely missed - Chelsea should take note that Bayern's right side will be very susceptible.

Badstuber:

Never the greatest one-on-one defender, but a keen, alert, and intelligent player with uncommon skill for his position. Alarmingly, Bayern have no real back-up for the Germany international: as it stands, Breno is out for the season with a knee injury, and Daniel van Buyten will have only just returned before the final is played. Without real centre-backs available, Jupp Heynckes may be forced to use defensive midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk at the back - and this could be a major problem for the Germans.

Gustavo:

A selfless workhorse between the defensive and midfield lines, the Brazilian's absence will force Bayern into an aggressive stance. Against Real Madrid, the Brazilian was an anchor, and formed a deadly triangle with central playmaker Toni Kroos and defensive partner Bastian Schweinsteiger that stifled the Spanish side's midfield. In the final, the Germans may be forced to use both Schweinsteiger and Kroos in defensive midfield, perhaps leaving them open to fast dribbles from deep areas which Gustavo has been so instrumental in stopping. Bayern will need Thomas Muller to do everything possible to help in deep areas, as Kroos has until now.

5th-10th May is 5 days mate, not 10. .......and as said^ i's on the 19th, so the most important 14 days in our history. Even longer to enjoy it all.

I have always disliked Spanish teams and spanish football in general. Their self-indulgent and sore loser attitude has pretty much done it for me not to mention the ties against Barca, which are raising to be one of the more legendary ties ever in the history of modern Champions league. Always controversial.

I also have to confess I've always kind of liked Bayern as well. Not a fan by any means but I hate the common attitude towards german football. They have put out many great team performances in football history which is always just brushed aside with comments like "they play like machine" or "boring" and sorts. They have realized the true meaning of TEAM GAME exactly what we did against Barcelona.

People are always in awe if some dude dribbles past 5 guys but never applaud a goal like Germany scored against England in that sad game(where Lampard scored but was disallowed), I think it was Mullers goal. Where pretty much the whole team took part and they shredded England's defense into pieces with simple passes.

Anyway we have a great chance of doing something great against a very very good team. Our lads deserve it! We have been one of the best teams in CL and have never won it. Roman deserves it as well.

not easy by any means...but glad we're not facing jose...just felt the players got caught up in the love in a couple of years ago when he came back with inter...like they found it hard to beat the former manager? It was a weird scenario...at least this way we're spared all that...but bayern are a top side and on their own patch as well...doesn;t get much tougher than that...actually it does, you could be trailing 2-0 away from home against the defending champions with 10 men and no first choice centre halfs

Check this out ..

The team in white celebrated wildly. Reduced to 10 men in their semi-final second leg on 24 April at the Camp Nou, they'd held on for an improbable 3-2 aggregate victory over Barcelona to reach the European Cup final.

Earlier in the season they'd looked in disarray. An upstart young manager who was supposed to oversee the rejuvenation of the squad had been ousted after alienating a core of senior players, but a safe pair of hands everybody assumed was a short-term appointment had arrived, soothed egos and reawakened some of the old fire.

The league was beyond them, but doggedly they'd scrapped their way through to within one game of the prize – the greatest prize – that had eluded them through all their years of success. In that final that side in white faced Bayern Munich. Undone by some scandalous refereeing, they lost and were never the same again.

Leeds United. Season 74/75.

Spooky! Let's hope the coincidence stops before the last line!
