Given Wenger is known for giving youth players a shot I think this shows Jose can and will play youth, admittedly we have been in pretty bad shape and a lot will believe he could have done more but playing youth has been one of the positive this season has brought. I mean 900 minutes for players under 21 in 10 games isn't that bad.

Great post

Got to watch a few of our youth players this weekend, having watched the Brentford v QPR game as well as the VItesse game.
My summary of the players on show.

John Swift; Having never seen him play before I was quietly surprised he was definitely one of the more talented players on the pitch and was very comfortable at the level he was playing. His dribbling was his most impressive trait and seemed to slide passed players with ease also his vision for a pass seemed pretty good however his execution could be improved. None the less a decent display by the lad who looks capable of being a BPL player however I doubt that will be here.

As ever Vitesse fielded quite a few Chelsea youngsters in their team in a rather dominating away performance. With Baker playing the full 90, Solanke getting around 70 minutes and sub appearances for both Brown and Nathan.

Brown; Was one of the best if not the best player on the pitch, dictating play all game with a great range of passing and composure. He was unlucky not to get a goal, hitting the cross bar from 30 yards out, the keeper getting no where near the shot. His set piece delivery was again very good, causing the havoc that lead to the penalty.

Solanke; Got to play the best part of the game, looking strong and composed on the ball and continually linking his supporting midfield into play, he looked lively and with a better final ball from the overly selfish wingers he should have had plenty more chances to score. He took his penalty very well and he has now moved his tally up to 4 for the season becoming Vitesse top scorer in the process. Scoring at a rate of a goal every 141 minutes he is looking like a force to be reckoned with.

Nathan; Coming on as a sub, I think Nathan should be disappointed with his performance which looked lackluster and devoid of enthusiasm. I'm guessing this is part down to him being left out the squad of late especially as it's behind Oliynyk who looks woeful and has squandered multiple chances in the last couple of games, but he really needs to up his game if he wants to win back his spot in the side having looked decent in the first few games of the season. He did however show good off the ball movement at times and was technically very good with the ball.

Brown; Starting the season poorly and losing his place in the side has not hampered this young lads enthusiasm and determination on the pitch, he didn't have much time on the pitch to show what he can do but coming on in his natural position up front he looked decent with good link up play and movement. I don't see him getting in the side ahead of Solanke but he should hopefully cement himself as the second choice striker whilst getting some extra game time on the wing

How many of our players out on loan are PL calibre?

Ake is doing ok, Chalobah could probably do a job...... Im struggling here.

If we could bring some players back, would they get in the first time?

Only Kalas has a real chance I feel.

Do you need a list of our loaned players? You seem to have forgotten a few.

As i see it more players than Kalas have PL potential

Cuadrado if he doesn't get sold to juve

Christensen also had a great season so far, and with the poor performance on the team this year, he might be a good substitute.

Moses to have had a good season as well

and im sure there is more

Currently I'd say; Ake, Marko van Ginkel, Christensen, Pasalic and maybe Baker oh and obviously Moses and some would say Cuadrado. I wouldn't put Kalas in that list he is currently not a guaranteed starter at a championship club (Piazon and Hector are probably out performing him in the championship so far this season) and Chalobah didn't really make any sort of impact at Burnley last season and Napoli aren't giving him a chance.

Potentially there are a lot more but we will have to wait and see.

and im sure there is more

Atsu, Boga, Brown, Baker, Solanke, van Ginkel, Bamford

Moses is a given, on his form he would walk into our team, I didnt think on that.

Looking at the majority of players who come from the dutch league (Suarez aside) they arent great

Depay, Van GInkel etc... so im not sure Baker can do it at BPL level

Pasalic with his 4th goal of the season, we could do with a CM that chips in with a few goals right now.

he is progressing well, and playing in top leagues too. I think he has the talent to make our first team squad for sure. with jose in charge, unfortunately this is our youth are not going to get many chances at all, and that's not including the ones on loan.

I just want to jump in on what I said before, I wrote the last message in the office so not really clear.

I really dont rate Cuadrado, Van Ginkel, Atsu, Bamford etc as Chelsea quality (despite our current predicament)

But, I do think Kalas has quality, I always look to Harry Kane who struggled on loan yet exploded last season..... sometimes when you play with better quality it improves your game. (I may be wrong) (I also feel the same with Chalobah based off what Ive seen)

Ake wont make it here. I think his build doesnt suit a defender and his midfield presence is lacking when he has played there.

Wallace - Not a chance

Bamford - I dont see his dream rise making it to Chelsea, he cant be worse than Falcao though

Brown - Maybe in 3-4 years

Solanke - Deffo in 3 years or so

Baker - Does he have the stamina for the BPL?

Piazon (another Kakuta)

I dont really deem the rest worthy of mention (Cuadrado, Salah etc)

We should bring Moses back asap and get him in the team though,

4 Chelsea loanees in action tonight not bad for a Tuesday evening, Hoping Christensen has a storming game against Juventus would really like to see Mochengladbach get at least 3rd in their group so they can carry on in Europe great experience for the lad. Swift, Piazon and Kalas are the others playing, Kalas getting to play at Cb for a change and Piazon in the side means the don't really seem to give any credence to this Canadian assault charge.

4 of our youngster in the England U21's squad are starting today, Baker, RLC, Chalobah and Solanke. Aina is on the bench, hopefully we see good performances all round.

Boring 0-0 I didn't get to watch it but I will put a link to the report below. |
All 4 players pretty much played the full 90 with RLC and Solanke getting substituted with 5 and 1 minutes to go respectively.
From what I gather it was a pretty cagey affair with neither team really dominating. Solanke was seemingly lively up front but with not much to feed of off and the midfield was very solid defensively but playing a 4-1-3-2 formation they lacked width and with 2 of the 3 central midfielders (Baker and Ward-Prowse) seemingly playing as deep lying playmakers, there wasn't really that much attacking spark.

Chelsea related snippets from the report.

'It was the visitors who had the first chance of a lively opening, when Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Dominic Solanke combined in the area to set up James Ward-Prowse, whose low effort was well saved by Kenan Piric in the Bosnian goal.'

'At the other end, debutant Dominic Iorfa’s right-wing cross picked out Lewis Baker in the box but his header was straight at Piric for a straightforward catch.'

'England felt they should have been awarded a penalty too, when Solanke was unceremoniously barged to the floor by Aleksandar Jovicic whilst trying to control a flighted ball into the box.'

'After such a frenetic start, the game settled into something of a stalemate with only a long distance shot from Baker five minutes before the break testing Piric.'
