I dont remember that happening. There is usually internation friendly games in the second week of the league but two days before we kick off for our first game is just stupid. Chelsea should just refuse to send the players. Actually Torres can go but Mata and Dave should be forced to stay!

Premier League kicks off earlier than most other European leagues doesn't it?

It does annoy me though, we have meaningless friendlies just before the season starts, so we pray none of our players get injured whilst away. Ruining preparations before the season has even started.

Then we play about 3 games then have another international break just when you are starting to enjoy football being back again.

Can't see torres being involved in that squad. The manager will use that friendly to play players that don't normally get any game time for spain so mata and azpil will be there for sure.

Even if he doesn't play he will still be away from our squad not returning until the day before our first league game.

Unless Ba and Lukaku were injured he won't get anywhere near the match day squad because both Lukaku and Ba you would assume will be more fresh.

Based on the two outings in pre-season so far I would say Lukaku is favourite to start at the moment but Ba is apparently going to start our next game, be good if he can get a goal for confidence.

Sorry, I thought you was referring to the Spain squad.

As in you thought he wouldn't play for Spain so might play for us.

That is what I meant. If he isn't involved in the spain squad which I don't think he will be for that friendly then why wouldn't he be able to play for us?

Because he will most likely be called up based on how he was a part of the Confederations Cup squad.

Spain's friendly involves a 15 hour trip with the players not returning to England the day before our opening game. If Torres does travel but doesn't play or even only plays 15 minutes or so he will not be 100% due to the lengthy travelling involved so why risk his fitness when other options would be available (Ba and Lukaku).

If (most probably when) Rooney deal fails we are facing either an audacious bids for Suarez or Higuain or we stick with what we have. That means Torres once again leading the line.

We still consider him being the Special One but do you guys think Mourinho could be the key to rejuvenate our main striker?

He already told Torres wont succeed against teams who put defenders close by Nando but you surely can tweak the formation with players and positioning so Torres has the space he needs.

Another question: Can we win the title with Torres leading the line?

No, of course we can't.

Look at the signings City have made, and even Spuds (especially if they sign Soldado).

Everyone around us is increasing their firepower, we need to as well. He's got to go.

Yes I know but my point was that I don't think torres will be part of the spain squad for that friendly because del bosque will want to have a look at players who don't get much game time for them like mata and azpil. Why take someone like torres only for him to sit on the bench?

Del Bosque just seems to like picking from the same crop of players all the time. You would think that Negredo and Soldado would be given a run out but I just don't see that as how the Spain squads are picked.

I wouldn't rule out our chances of winning the title with Torres leading the line, United will be far weaker this season and we only finished 3 points behind City last season, with an incompetent oaf in charge of the team.

Plus we've added Lukaku, KDB and Schurrle.

That said, it would make a title challenge far, far more difficult than it need be.

Why are people saying we are not going to win the title with torres leading our line? If torres is leading our line and doing well then that means we will be in contention and if he isn't playing well then jose will drop him and put lukaku or ba as the main striker.

What do you think of City's new front line? They've spent around £55m on Jovetic and Negredo which is obviously a lot of money.

Not sure how they are going to play Negredo, Jovetic, Augero, Silva, Navas and of course, Scott Sinclair regularly enough to keep them happy. I'm curious what formation their going to play too.

Not impressed by there signings in all honesty. I feel they are weaker this season if anything. They lost tevez and replaced him with negredo. Tevez is better. Navas looks a decent signing but how will he cope first season in the prem. And I don't know much about jovetic so can't comment there.

Similar to what Bluehatter said, I think City looked most dangerous when Aguero and Tevez were linking up very well, they seemed to strike a good partnership together, and honestly i'm surprised they broke it up.

It's yet to be seen how good Jovetic and Negredo will be, but certainly neither of them will have that connection with Aguero that Tevez did, being so new at the club.

Even with the signings of Jovetic and Negredo I do think Aguero will still be the main man next season, under Pellegrini he will be in double figures quite quickly. It's interesting though, City have spent the most this summer but they seemed to have gone under the radar simply because of the whole Rooney saga between us and Utd and I bet City would like to keep it that way. They will most defiantly be up there next season, Pellegrini is an underrated manager.

I still don't see a future for Dzeko at that club other than being a bench warmer.

I think it's because they haven't signed anyone overly "high profile".

Navas - £14m

Fernandinho - £30m

Negredo -  £20m

Jovetic - £22m

That's £86m spent and they've sold Tevez for £11m and let Maicon go on a free so that's a total spend of £75m which is some serious spending especially when they have yet to make it past the group stage in the Champions League.

I completely forgot about Dzeko!

They've got four forwards again plus Nasri, Navas and Silva. Seriously how do you fit them all in?

Add to that Toure, Barry, Milner, Garcia, Rodwell and Fernandinho in central midfield and you would think someone is going to have to leave to make space.

OF course we can win it with Torres up front, but we will have more chance with a better striker obviously. On Citys chances, you have to factor in the new manager coming into a completely different league and country, so theres a lot of uncertainty as to how he will do.

I always point to when AVB arrived at Chelsea. He thought he could have a fluid three man midfield with the players seamlessly interchanging throughout the game to add variety and a unpredictable side to our game.

Then he quickly found the ball transitions to quickly from defense to attack in the Premier League that he couldn't implement this idea and ended up reverting to having a set midfielder playing as the anchor.

I'm sure Pellegrini will similarly have to find his feet with the league and may find he needs to balance his team a lot more than he thinks.

I think that is basically an example of poor implementation rather than proof it cannot be done. which is the story of villas boas at chelsea.

well that and comedy man management, obviously.
