I've found Jose's comments quite interesting re: Torres.

There's a good 300+ pages in this thread alone detailing Torres' many failings, but I'm actually quite confident that our strikers will do well this season, and this is going by the assumption there will be no more new additions to the squad.

Jose's the best motivator in the business. Confident strikers deliver.

In terms of quality, I'd consider Ba to be one of the better 'squad' strikers in the league. Lukaku has a lot of potential, and he will get the platform to shine this season. And on his day, and (although they're undeniably rare) there has been a few, Torres has proven to lead our line well.

We've probably got the third/fourth best set of strikers in the league. One of them has the potential to the be the best. Of course it would've been great to sign one of Europe's 'elite' forwards, but I'm still happy with what we have.

I fancy Torres to lead the line from the start, with Lukaku gradually getting more and more game time as the season progresses. And I reckon all three will have a good season.

Anyone that thinks Torres failings are anything to do with confidence are fooling themselves and seriously need a slap! The guy is finished at the top level. He doesnt have what it takes to perform week in week out anymore. Nothing will change just because Jose is in charge. Roman brought in Rafa and he couldnt even get Torres back to his best.

All we can hope for is Jose starts with Lukaku or Ba and once we are up 3-0 brings on Torres just to run around a little bit.

I can still resemble Torres in your opinion of him then!!

I'm not giving up on a Torres revival under Jose. I'm sure I seen an interview with Frank where he said in his previous spell Jose called him aside and told him he was the greatest player in the world and it made him feel 10 feet tall (or words to that effect). The point I'm making is if he can supply this feeling, confidence towards Torres as he has done before with other players I'm hoping he can make a difference.

Lets not forget the impact he made (along with all other players) in the CL win of 2012 and the Europa of 2013. I'd like to think we are different than other two-bob fans who turn on their players.

He plays for Chelsea, I'm not giving up, so he gets my support.

Totally agree with this comment.

Jose builds his players up and gives them a platform to shine.

I'm not saying that method will bring Torres "back to his best", but I'm sure Jose will get the best he can out of him, and I'm still of the opinion Torres is capable of being a good striker for the club.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I've seen how much Jose can get out of his players. And that's enough for me to say that I'm looking forward to seeing how Lukaku, Torres & Ba performn next season, and I'm confident they'll do well.

I completely agree lets also give Torres a 5 year contract so we can see 5 more years of revivals. Give him a damn bonus if he gets up to double figures in the league.

To be fair, forum discussions aren't really going to change anyone's opinion of the guy, that'll just come down to performances on the pitch.

I'm optimistic he'll deliver when called upon.

He may well end up continuing to be pretty damn average, he may well end up the league's highest-paid reserve player, he may well end up sold...

All I'm saying is that he could end up doing well next season (feel free to list the million things you consider more likely to happen), and on the basis that he'll be a Chelsea player, I'll judge his 13/14 season when it starts, and hope for the best until then.

Firstly I'm an optimist anyway its just my take on things and it won't change.

I've said a few weeks ago that I felt he should be sold for his and our future fortunes. I've also said that if he goes he goes with my best wishes and if he stays he gets my full support.

It perplexes me that a player who was part of a team who has been exceptionally successful in the face of a bad couple of years with managers gets so much bad feeling. I agree with you all that he is not prolific as he should be, his touch can be rubbish, his shooting is wayward, but there are moments some glimpses that give me a buzz. As long as he keeps trying, keeps going he will get my following I refuse to become like the manure fans now saying they couldn't give a f**k about Rooney give him abuse if goes, but sing his name if he stays.

Torres is blue, maybe not the greatest blue, but blue nonetheless, if he stays I hope he has a super season.

can't see him starting 1st game.......will not be up to Jóse's required level of fitness/sharpness if he's only coming back next week............saying that mata/luiz/oscar may find they are also not starting 1st game but will be on the bench too...

He'll never be the same as before, but his performance markedly improves when he's confident. In the confederations cup there was a moment he turned Bonucci (or Barzagli, think it was Bonucci) beautifully in the box and beat Buffon but just beat the post. He's never going to get his pace back, but when he's confident he takes these things on and often pulls them off rather than hesitating like he has done throughout his Chelsea career. Or worse, the "Torres dragback" as I like to call it where he can take a shot but is not confident enough so tries to give himself a better angle by beating a defender with a dragback and just ends up losing it - seen him do it countless times here.

so apparently to become a competent footballer for one of the biggest clubs in the world all you need is a chat with jose

After my chat with Jose, my golf game has improved.  I just believe in myself.

I would have thought having a manager who believes in you , gives positive vibes is better than being told you're done as a player. Do we honestly think that is how you manage a football team ?

I remember watching some programme when Jose was in charge before. It was the morning of a match or close enough to it and Jose is up the front talking saying 'you cannot lose this match'. It wasn't a threat it was him stating that we wouldn't lose. Confidence breeds confidence , to me it's part of what separates normal managers from 'the special one'. Will it be enough for Torres ? I don't know , what I will not under-state is the power of the mind.

Towards the end of last season when Ferguson was talking about this upcoming season he was talking about main rivals, he said with Jose back Chelsea will be a major force. That is part of what feeling Jose has given us all in coming back , it surely rubs off elsewhere.

I'll always be a fan of his, but if we are once again left with Torres leading the line this season after I had so much hope of us signing a big name striker like Cavani or Falcao, I'm going to be really disappointed. He's a lovely guy and a fairly decent player still, but he isn't going to win us the league being our main guy upfront. I have no problem with him staying, but as back up. I sincerely hope more than anything we manage to get Rooney.

i agree with most of that. but there's a limit. you can't pick out any 2bob player and after a few quiet whispers have them play like a title challenging striker.

it amazes me how people can be so blasé about going into another fecking season with torres as the main man.

I'm with you on that, of course there is a limit, I wouldn't be as strong to say he is 2bob (if you are) he of course has not been the 50 million revelation we had hoped for. Maybe I'm putting too much hope on the Mourinho factor, but I truly believe we have the right man to do it if anyone can.

I'm not blase about this either, it really is a case of being happy out that Jose is here and I believe will put us on the right track. I would prefer he take stock during the season and identify the proper player that we need rather than rush out and make an impulse buy (as we did with Torres).

if he's the manager i believe he is then working out striking options would've been on his mind long before he put pen to paper

How many managers has Torres had since moving from Liverpool? 4 (not including Jose yet) with Chelsea and the manager of the Spanish team. Not one of those managers could get him back to his best. Not even Rafa could get him back to his days of old.

When will people wake up and realise that Torres is finished at the top level? You can hope that Jose has some kind of special power that will turn Torres around and become a feared striker once again but like every season since he has joined us you will end up disappointed come the end of the season.

Fear not Torres detractors, he probably won't be in the starting line up of our opening game.

Bad news? Nor will Mata or Dave.

José Mourinho is resigned to being without his Spanish trio Juan Mata, Fernando Torres and César Azpilicueta when Chelsea start their Premier League campaign at home to Hull City on 18 August. The trio are due back in London only 24 hours before the opener after Spain's friendly in Ecuador.

The World Cup and European Championship winners will play in Guayaquil on 14 August, the night England host Scotland at Wembley, with all three of Chelsea's Spanish contingent expected to be included in Vicente del Bosque's squad. Mourinho is already planning his team for the visit of promoted Hull on the following Sunday and, while the extra 24 hours granted by television coverage means the trio could be included on the bench, the Chelsea manager does not anticipate starting with any of the three.

"My lineup will depend a lot on which players go away with their national teams two days before the opening of the Premier League," Mourinho said. "If one has to go to Ecuador and comes back and arrives in London on Saturday without having slept after a 15-hour flight, coming in to train on Saturday morning, I don't think he is going to play on Sunday. If a player plays for England on Wednesday against Scotland, let's say plays for 45 minutes at Wembley and then an hour after the game he is at home in Cobham sleeping, he is in a better condition to play. The team will be decided game after game and week after week.

"What happens before the Hull City game has an impact. Also, if we have to play against Aston Villa two or three days later – we still don't know when that will be [the game is still to be rescheduled, having been set for the weekend Chelsea play in the European Super Cup in Prague on 30 August] – I will have to think about two or three matches at the same time. If the game is postponed until two months later and I have only one match in a week, I will think differently. It depends on the situation."

I do hate International friendlies.

I cant believe that a friendly has been arranged for a couple of days before we kick off the season. How f**king stupid is that!

Didnt they do that last season?
