Chelsea v Villa (PL) 23/12/2012 KO 16:00 GMT

Featured Replies

Onwards and downwards everybody.

Our last home game of 2012.

This could be a dress rehearsal for the League Cup final.

Villa beat the dippers 3-1 away in their last game.

Lambert is a good manager.

What do you all think .. ?

I think this will be an interesting match. Benteke has been in good form as of late and I expect to see more of it against our woeful back 4. My only concern would be FSW committing too much to the defence and in his attempt to shut down Benteke and the Villa attack we end up pulling a 0-0 draw...these 3 points are crucial if we are to have ANY chance at catching united. With that said though I'm expecting a positive result for us, 2-1 or 3-2. Will be a huge morale boost should we see them again in the finals of the league cup.

Our record against Villa hasn't been so great recently, and although they were poor at the beginning of the season they're slowly coming back into form again.

Naturally, a team of Chelsea's quality should be able to put a game like this to bed, although how many times have we said that this season!

Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Aston Villa

apart from a 7-1 leathering under Carlo they have been tricky to beat at SB

they have nicked quite a few draws in the Roman era, but not won in a long time

FSW rotation & defensive tactics......???   I'm being optimistic and hoping that SFL starts and Chelsea win 2-1

This is a must win game. The excellent performance agains Leeds will provide a tremendous boost to our team's morale. I am confident of a win.

Tough game both home and away, they seem to be our bogey team.  Hope to go out in style at home in 2012, but I fear a frustrating 1-1 draw

I would like to see:

Cech

Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole

Luiz, Lampard

Moses, Mata, Hazard

Torres (but 5 live said he limped to the bus after the Leeds game, could be nothing though)

probably after the ball hit his shin and went in the net.

This is somewhat of a different Villa team this time around.  Can't see anything but a Blues victory, Liverpool should have been in front a couple of times before Villa scored but couldn't finish without Suarez. Need a good solid win to make a statement that we are angry and we are back.  My only fear will be the jet lag effect as sometimes it catches up with you later rather than sooner. 4-1

This is a Villa team who have been pretty awful for most of the season, but who won 3-1 at Anfield last time out. Which could imply the start of a Villa resurgence or it could mean that Liverpool were dire. Having not seen a minute of the match, I've got no idea either way.

Either way, it's not a game to be taken for granted, but then with the interim manager in place, it never is. Not even at home against a piss-poor, badly weakened Fulham team. Lest we forget.

This will be my first and possibly last match of the season (I bought the tickets before the Interim Manager wormed his way into the club). I'm mainly looking forward to seeing the new lads play. If for some reason the FSW decides not to start with Hazard then my hatred for him will reach a whole new level.

On paper we should win comfortably but I'm a little nervous. I can't see it being a high scoring game, Lambert is a decent manager and I'm expecting Villa to set out to try and stop us playing and maybe nick a goal when the chance arises.

A combination of both.

Benteke ran at their defence which just simply couldn't deal with him. He's dangerous, i just hope our back line will be able to shut him down.

If we take the same attitude as the second half at dirty leeds then we'll win this game.

Cahill being back gives the FSW the opportunity to put Luiz back in the midfield, with Ivan next to Cahill, Dave on the right and Cole (depending how he feels) or Ryan on the left.

Midfield of Hazard, Mata and either Oscar or Moses looks likely.

And of course Torres up front due to a ridiculous piece of short sightedness by the club leaving us with no CF cover.

Didn't they win at SB last season? On New Years Eve?

Mclov  you  are bang on

I got my results stats from official website archive history, it failed to show me the AVB loss

3-1 to Villa, not surprising is it

Our defenders should be able to stop Benteke easily. Our defence is 100x better than LiverFools. Probably a comfortable 2-1 or 3-1 win.

When is a 2-1 win comfortable ?

I think you are underestimating Benteke, he's getting better with every game for Villa, plus he is from Belgium

I have been lucky,or unlucky enoghh to see the 4 all draw and the 3 All draw in the last few years.I would very weary villa, always raise their game at SB.I reckon A 2-2,unfortunately
