No one has advocated booing Cech or shown him any ill will in all this, so I don't know why you keep bringing that up.

Arsenal lose players they don't want to lose and lose them to clubs they don't want to lose them to. When Liverpool sold Suarez, he went to Barcelona rather than Arsenal. When Modric left Spurs, he went to Real rather than Chelsea. When we lost Robben, it wasn't to another PL team. When Arsenal lost Van Persie, he went to Man Utd. Think if Real or PSG had tried to buy Rooney United would have put up such resistance?

Sure we're allowing Cech to leave and he leaves with our best wishes. That doesn't mean we have to sell him to one of our title rivals.

Suarez and Modric were both key players to their clubs and they wanted to keep them.

We didn't lose Robben. We cashed in on a player whom we had decided to sell because of form and injury issues.

The issue is that we've replaced Cech after many years of excellent service and many of us are happy to let him leave, even if he chooses to go to a rival for whatever reason. I think that shows a tremendous amount of class on our part.

And yet they still sold them, just not to domestic rivals.

My issue is not with Cech. He's entitled to want to leave after we basically bought a replacement when he didn't need replacing. Letting him leave with our best wishes might show a tremendous amount of class on our part but letting him go to Arsenal or Man Utd would also show a tremendous amount of idiocy.

I don't think it's idiotic to put the personal wishes of someone who is a true legend above domestic rivalry but we're clearly not going to agree. Maybe it's a generational thing or maybe we just perceive this club differently.

But when a man like Cech gives so much service in such a decent way then I think he deserves to have his choice of clubs. I won't like him joining Arsenal but I'd respect it....and I'd respect myself too.

Enjoy the match on Sunday and give Cech the send-off he deserves.  :good2:

We actually wanted to keep Robben it was he who wanted to go.

Selling Cech to Arsenal would be stupid as we would be strengthening a direct rival in a key position they have struggled in for years. Those extra points he would give them could see them finish above us and that is not worth the risk.

So if Cech makes it clear that he and his family are happy in England and he decides he does not want to play abroad - where would folk suggest he goes?

Maybe some just think the club should come first, who after all have paid him millions in wages for his great service. No one's saying Cech can't leave or that we don't wish him well. It's just in the club's interests for him not to go to a rival team. I think I could just about live with myself if we stopped a Chelsea legend and still great keeper going to Arsenal.

I think the club should come first and he's a massive part of this club. The club is the people who are associated with it and you treat those people well.

It isn't just something you have some distant relationship. It isn't just a listing on the ceefax page, and when it's on top of the table you brag to friends about on Facebook.

So when people say he could commute to Paris, there's a clear disconnect in recognising that he's a human being.

Chelsea comes first.

No player is bigger than our club.

Sell him abroad not to a rival.

Simple as that

It's really not as simple as that.

Great way to treat a loyal servant of the club of over 10 years and who would have been happy to see his career out with us if we hadn't signed his replacement.

After that sort of service and loyalty he should be able to go wherever he wishes.

He was under no illusion as he was the player who came in and done the same to Carlo.

It's football and the club does what's best for the club not any individual player.

Cech may be thinking the same and it's up to him but if he was allowed to go to another English team it would add to the list of stupid things we have done over the past few seasons.

IF Cech did go to Utd or Arsenal it wouldn't be ideal but I could live with it and honestly don't think it would make the sort of difference that would enable either to win the league. Utd would be losing an equally good keeper in De Gea and Arsenal are Arsenal - a good keeper would improve them but unless they improve other areas they will still be struggling to finish top of the pile. Cech is still a good keeper but not the same keeper he was at his peak so I really don't have an issue with it.

and we then allowed Carlo to pick where he went next, spurs, a rival....of sort.

Cant see him staying. Would hate to see him at a premier league rival. If he is to leave us, he must leave England!

Oh I don't know, I wouldn't mind him coming up here to Shrewsbury.

I really don't want us to sell Cech to Arsenal or United, even if Cech wants it. I don't want to see another Van Der Sar, he was fantastic for United until the day he retired and was a big reason why United were so succesful from 2006-2011.

Bear in mind that that servant has probably been on a seven figure salary since the day he arrived here! We aren't forcing him to see out his contract or making him train with the reserves. He's under contract and we're perfectly entitled to stop him moving to a domestic rival. Any other club would do exactly the same.
