With De Gea looking like he's off to Real Madrid,it would be stupid of United not to get Cech. £10m for a world class keeper. I think we're selling him too cheaply.

I just hope he doesn't go to United or Arsenal.

Yes, I'm sure we'd get more than that if we sell to United or PSG. They can afford to overpay and so they should.

He's a 33 year old keeper on big wages, and nearing the end of his contract. I'd be surprised if we got much more than £10m for him. Still, there's no need to let him go to Arsenal or Man Utd.

the way to look at it is, if he goes to arsenal he strengthens a local rival, whereas if he goes to utd he doesn't really strengthen them. Utd have de gea, who is arguably better than cech, so if they lose de gea and buy cech, in my opinion they aren't strengthening the gk spot as opposed to if they keep de gea; this is why i would rather he go to utd.

That's a good point. United's problems extend throughout the spine of that team whereas Arsenal are probably a much more complete team at the moment. They're looking to strengthen a couple of positions and Cech does that.

Plus I don't hate united anywhere near as much as Arsenal. That helps.

Sky sports reporting its likely to be arsenal, no direct quote that says that, but his agent has said it'll be Roman that decides not Jose.

If Roman oks a move to arsenal, I'm sorry but he's an idiot. Cech is a legend and we should allow him to leave if that's what he wants but to a title & city rival, I'm sorry, just no.

No player is bigger than the club, and we need to put our foot down here.

It won't be a popular opinion but I'd make it crystal clear to Cech he won't be sold to a PL team.

Not sure I'd ever call Roman an idiot.

I think it might have something to do with him being friends with Petr and respecting the service he's given us enough to treat him and his family with respect.

It's hard to really put into words what I mean....imagine if there was this person you knew, and you liked him and you didn't want to treat him like sh*t because you respected him. I think that's more Roman's motivation here, rather than him being an idiot.

hope cech gets to play the last game and get a good send off. thibaut had a mare last night anyway, so good excuse to bring big pete back in for a last hurrah

I think Roman will listen to Jose..

And he's made it perfectly clear where he satnds on thematter.

Nope.

Looks like he will go to United, as a "reward" for all the years of loyal service to us, RA and JM are letting him choose to go wherever he wants, be it a PL rival or not...

So on the word of an agent (apparently) in a newspaper, you feel that is a stronger indication that what I heard Jose say with my own ears ?? So i'm afraid you including JM in with RA just isn't true.
He may well go to United.. or Arse.. or one of many other suitors, but it doesn't 'look like' anything yet.
I have no idea where he will end up, but i don't want it to be Arse.

It's besides the point, if you run a company/business/football club, you can't put personal feelings towards someone ahead of the business/club.

I don't think saying you can't go to a rival firm/club while still under contract here is treating someone like 'sh*t' (PSG for example is hardly a career ender & is about an hour on a plane away) and if you got on that well with the person, you'd expect them to know that wouldn't make business sense to do.

We'll see how it pans out over the next 2 months I suppose, but if he goes to one of Arsenal or United, we have majorly strengthened a direct title rival, perhaps not so much United because of De Gea, but Arsenal without a doubt.

Rather worrying that this will be two Chelsea legends having left the club and played for direct rivals, interesting Cole who I don't think gets mentioned as much, is the only recent one not to (and Drogs but he's back again).

Normally I'd probably agree, but Cech has given so much to the club, been such a great ambassador, been such a great servant and been such a great bloke then I'd let him do whatever he wants.

Football isn't just a business. There's still that strong family element and Roman doing best by someone who isn't just an employee but also a friend is a very nice way of saying thank you to Petr. The last thing Roman deserves is to be called an idiot.

Roman may not be an idiot, but allowing Cech to go to Arsenal or Man Utd would be idiotic. Strengthening a direct rival with no tangible benefit for us.

So you'd be against selling him to PSG then?

It'd make no difference to united. They had a good enough keeper anyway. Would just be upsetting on a personal level.

It would improve arsenal immensely though. Which would not only be upsetting personally but might actually make me physically ill.

PSG aren't a direct rival.

True, they're in a different country. Just a few questions though.

How many times have we played PSG over the last two seasons? How many times have we played Arsenal or United?

How many times have we lost to PSG over the last two seasons? How many times have to lost to United or Arsenal?

Will PSG be in the Champions League next season? Could we draw them again? Does that not make them a direct rival?

They aren't a direct rival at all, we are less likely to play PSG than we are Arsenal who we are guaranteed to play twice a season.

Also you're talking about the Premier League which is a points based league compared to the Champione League that becomes a knockout competition. Cech going to PSG could only effect us if we play them whereas Cech going to Arsenal could threaten out league place with strengthening a team in the Premier League. If Cech helps PSG get points in the French league that doesn't effect us at all but if he helps Arsenal get points in our League it can effect us.

But it's no surprise to see Blue Daze going against the norm again.

We have played them twice by pure chance of the draw, law of averages says it can't happen every year.

If he goes to Arsenal or Utd, we play him every year....twice, maybe more if you then throw the cups into it too.

Not to mention that the league is our bread and butter, not the CL.

It's not 'pure chance' strictly speaking though because it's weighted in favour of the bigger teams. In fact the competition is designed that way through seedings so we're more likely to face a team like PSG on a regular basis than say Maribor. That's somewhat besides the point though.

I think this notion of who is and isn't a rival has changed in the modern era. Not only do we compete with teams like PSG in competitions, but we compete with them for players (Pastore, Hazard, Pogba etc.) and also for fans/revenue/mindshare or whatever measure you want to use.

I do actually understand why people want him to go to PSG and I would prefer him to go there but I also recognise that he's a human being who has served us magnificently in every way conceivable, right up to him acting with a tremendous amount of grace when we replaced him.

That's why I'd be happy with us treating him with class and allowing him to do what is best for him. Obviously I know some won't agree because that type of thing isn't perhaps more important to them than trophies and the such, but it's my honest opinion.

I'd also refrain from calling the man who gave me some of the best memories I've ever had both at the Bridge and Munich an idiot, but again that's just me.
