Game of Thrones

They've replaced the lack of plot progress by just killing off a character dramatically every few episodes. Unfortunately they always seem to be the characters I like.

What!? I don't understand, I think it has been a really good season and I thought the episode was good. However the only down point of the episode was the Bran scene, I thought it was terrible acted, the fighting was terrible and the reactions where terrible, it's almost as if they had to rush that scene.

The story is following very close to the books and some of those story lines do drag on a bit.  I felt a little let down this season as I knew all the shock moments were coming before they did.  I am a little worried about next season because of the book content. They should be able to deviate from the books a little more without changing the story next season.

Totally agree.

I thought it was a wonderful season , the best of the lot so far. Quite how anyone can say there has been no plot progress is beyond me. The descion by the directors to make some scenes longer has made the show all the better for it, and there has been some great character development.

Like you (and most others it seems) I find the Bran angle a drag, though perhaps we are getting somewhere now. I thought the scene the other day looked like some cheap BBC fantasy drama from 1984.

So much happened during that season it's hard to pick a highlight - Joffrey? The hound/arya? Sansa/Littlefinger? Oberyn? The attack on the Wall...

Star of the season was prob Jon Snow and Harrington seems to have upped his acting too which was needed. I'd say biggest disaappintment was Jaime who never really got involved in his own storyline, after possibly being the best thing about S3. Oh and his scenes with Cersei are awful - no chemistry at all....

I have enjoyed it very much this season. Sometimes a bit silly in places and the violence is a bit over the top, just for shock value. I haven't read the books, but I kinda wish I had.

For those who have read the books - how far along in the series of books are we? And how many books are there? And are they ridiculously long? I have a history of getting half way through a book and then abandoning it.

If we all have a wait until April next year I might have a go at reading them.

5 books, been waiting for 6 for a long time, and could be waiting a lot longer.  You're looking at over 4000 pages for the 5 books out (I have them all my ipad). I started reading them after series 3, where I couldn't wait to see what happens next. I found it hard to put down. There were some slow chapters, but overall I enjoyed it....but I'm a sucker for details, which books can give in abundance.

I found the first couple of books harder, because I knew most of what was going to happen, from the show...but when I got into new content I was sucked right in...

Some storylines have nearly reached the end of their book counterparts, which is odd, others still have a way to go. I don't know whether the show will create filler stories for some characters to make up until new book content comes out, or whether they will go ahead of the books with the information GRRM can give them, or whether some characters involvement will just be minimised. I honestly don't know. Some people think this series has been a bit slow, but the content of some characters are running thin.

We're at the end of Storm of Swords.

2 books to go until your up to date. I would recommended reading the books. Absolutely top notch.

Should I start from the beginning or can I jump in at the second or third book?

If I were you I'd start from the beginning...it may be a slog at times but in the end, you'll have a better understanding of each character which could be important in the later books. There are also some differences in the books...some smaller, some slightly bigger.

On my previous post, I am thinking I may have overstated the issues with regards to storylines coming to an end. There are certainly some that fit into that, but thinking about it more, there's still lots of content which can be explored, and I assume will be. Dany's story has rightly drawn criticism for it's tv show evolution though...it has gone snail pace this season. But if they did more with her, they absolutely would have run out of content...as it is, they left out enough to give her some story over the next series.

If you do read the books, you should know that two of the books a feast for crows and a dance with dragons...are supposed to take place concurrently, and are split in an odd way. The other books will have chapters for all the characters, but those 2 books each have chapters for roughly half the characters each. So you can read one book which may have zero chapters of your favourite characters.

Thanks for the info dudes! I will get them on my kindle. My girlfriend bought me it last year a day It's bloody never used so this will make up for it! !

Some clever clogs found a way to combine the books so it makes sense. Just about to start it. Obviously it'll make it a 2000 page tome, but if you don't mind long books, it's perfect.

I read all 5 books in about 5 months last year, but most of that was spent taking my time with the first one. By the end, I was averaging about a week per book as I was excited to read them.

I thought the ending last night was sh*t.......because i dont to wait another bloody 8 months for the next season.

I started reading the books after the second episode of the first season.  I was done with book 4 by the end of that season and read book 5 as it came out.  Definitely would suggest reading from the beginning, the books are very good reads.

It will be interesting to see if George R.R. Martin gives them any content from the in progress book for the show.  It would surprise me if he does so as it would potentially spoil the book readers.  The show can lengthen or create minor story lines for some of the characters without straying too much from the book storyline.

There are some characters whose storylines continue in the books but don't progress very much.  There is a fair bit of creativity that can be put into those storylines for the show.

Totally agree.

Do you think so? I actually like there relationship.

If you watch Season 1 again you notice how much of a twat Jamie was, it's mostly when he is around Cerci. He has always been ashamed of himself for the mad king stabbing, especially when it was one of the most awkward situations in his life where he gets no credit in.

In season 1 Cerci says he doesn't take things seriously and he's just an ego, they where very much alike and I think that's why Cerci was attracted to him, Cerci would need to be with someone like herself. But when Jamie is captured he changes, he is much more serious than he was and he has opened up more, he's had a taste of the real world and he's said a lot of things that needed to be said.

Now that he has came back Cerci didn't want to know him because he changed a lot, he wasn't the old Jamie Lannister that resembled Cerci. In the latest episode it was quite freaky, she decided to choose him, but lets face it do we think that will last? I doubt it, there relationship will never be the same because Jamie is a changed man and Cerci will never accept it.

Apart from a few things, Jamie is one of the 'good guy's'. No true good / evil lines as GRRM likes to paint everyone with a bit of a dark history, just like everyone has their demons in real life. Perhaps not on the same scale, but definitely more possible back in those days.

Let's not forget he saved Kings Landing and probably most of Westeros.

Like throwing Bran out of the tower window? ;)

You got to respect the character development.

Who could have thought we would love such a prick like Jamie Lannister? A guy who is so full of himself, pushes kids out of a window, no remorse and has a disgusting incest-rial relationship with his sister. Yet... He is currently everyones favorite character, well most people anyway.

Don't get me wrong I like the storylines involving the two characters , I just don't there is any chemistry between the actors which makes the scenes nowhere near as special as they could/should be.

Dare I say it, I think losing his hand gave him a bit more humility. Even most of the horrid characters have their redeeming features, the Hound for instance. Jaime's is Tyrion.

There is an irony in the fact that Jamie is faithful to Cersei, while Tyrion seeks his pleasures in brothels!

There are lot of ironies with the Lannisters. Tywin despises Tyrion even though he is by far the most competent and intelligent of his children, and essentially the one who is most like him.

Hmm . . .  well I'd rather f**k a whore than my sister guess that's also ironic.

Im missing one of my hands, thats 2 similarities I have with Jaime......
