Our New Stadium

Twickenham eh? That's really easy for me to get to, could definitely live with that for a year!

Walking distance from my sister - she'll be happy!  Well, when she wants to go she will be, she'll probably be cursing the traffic etc when she doesn't!

Hope she has a few spare beds for us

I think I may be visiting her rather more often!

Seriously, I wonder what the residents would feel about it?  Every other week is a bit different to how it's used at the mo.  And would Chelsea fans in general be ok about it - it's not that hard to get to I guess - BR from Wimbledon or district to Richmond and then a bus?  Wouldn't fancy the latter on match day.

Would be a bit more difficult for me to get to on a weekend, worse for a weeknight game, but it seems like a fair compromise for a season. Can you imagine a Champions league semi-final with 80,000 people?

I do wonder about the pitch though, would it stay in good enough nick to play slick football?

Edit: Second thing with the pitch, the size looks alot bigger than ours, could help us stretch the play

For the Londoners on here, where exactly is Twickenham in relation to Stamford Bridge?

Its a good bit west of the bridge. Bout half an hour drive

Not sure the residents would be happy but pubs and restaurants would be thrilled I reckon. As for the fans I think for the sake of a year we would be happy to do it knowing we would be going back home to the bridge after it

The local infra-structure is there too as they're used to coping with large crowds for the big rugby games.  Pubs and restaurants too I guess.  Though I remember as a teenager hating the rugby as some of the pubs used to close rather than want the fans in!  The whole area has gone much more upmarket now - could be interesting!

Random story considering I just applied for about a grand's worth of tickets there for the Rugby World Cup.

Would be a great stadium for a season away from the Bridge, the transport links are definitely there and the local(ish) pubs are some of the best in London in my opinion.

The problem is the Autumn Internationals in November (EVERY weekend of November) and the 2/3 Six Nations matches around February. Then there's the possibility of a couple of other club matches being held there (the London Double Header, maybe a Quins match or two and a few other matches) needing a weekend.

As for the stadium itself, it's fantastic. You'll get a great atmosphere, a decent pint and a fantastic hog roast roll. There's the Barmy Arms down by the river as well, but the local residents WILL probably object. Policing might be an issue with Quins matches at the Stoop as well and the RFU bigwigs are a stuffy old bunch who don't like chavball....but they do like money. The people who actually run the stadium are a very forward-thinking bunch though so it could go either way. Personally I wouldn't have thought you'd have Lady Gaga there 15 years ago so anything is possible.

It's the best possible alternative site in my opinion.

Ah the Barmy Arms! Many hours of misspent youth in there! But it's tiny inside.

True, and the steps are treacherous after a few drinks but they have the outside taps going on matchdays and it's got one of the best views going in my books. Plus you've got the Cabbage Patch and the Webb Ellis which are decent pre-match holes.

Be interested to know just how far this enquiry has gone. The place has 78,000 capacity but they've been known to shut the top tiers which gives us a far more manageable 63,000 capacity.

They close off all the roads leading up from the station to the ground on rugby matchdays (you've got 7s tournaments as well which I forgot to add) which would be a hard sell NINETEEN more times per year, as well as European nights which would be a nightmare to be honest. Lots of issues to be ironed out here, most of which could possibly be sold with a big bag of money but that's another expense to go along with the cost of renovating the Bridge.

Funnily enough was talking to a bloke at the Bridge yesterday who thought the Kensal Gasworks was the frontrunner. sh*thole at the moment but a possible regeneration project along with a potential crossrail station makes it a more attractive proposition for us.

Still get sick everytime I go past Battersea Power Station....oh what could've been.

Twickenham is not a great stadium for watching football in, it was designed after Hillsborough and has massive run off areas around the pitch, to reflect safety concerns then, which means the front rows of spectators are miles away

Funnily enough they relented over safety regs when the Millenium was built and that has a fantastic atmosphere with the fans a lot nearer the pitch

PSI hope they knock down the east north and south stands, then replicate the west stand opposite and run the same level tiers all the way round

Certainly exciting be great if the club done some sort of cheap to tickets especially for families and youths try get back the generations of fans we priced out and with a huge stadium like that it might happen. I know its only a year but we could give youth a chance to watch us cheaply they might get hooked. We have quite an old fan bass I reckon

Can't see cheap tickets happening for families and youths. That's what arsenal fans were expecting and the oppsite happened and instead the ticket prices rocketed. The extra 10,000 will then probably come from Japenese tourists and co-operations handing out tickets to their employees. No thanks.

Don't see it myself but that's what I'd like if it that happen but it probably won't. I think chelsea would struggle filling a 60000 seater ground

Really don't think we need to extend the Bridge. knee jerk reaction from the club after Tottenham and Liverpool extending/changing their stadiums.

It's hard not to have a kneejerk reaction to seeing Arsenal make €34 million per season in matchday revenue than us. (2010 figures).

Premier League matches sell out in no time for the big games, even QPR sold out the first day. Bolton was virtually full, as was Schalke and Maribor is a sell out too. I don't know about 18,000 more seats but I reckon we could easily fill 55,000 seats and I think we'd all appreciate improved access to the ground.

I don't know if ticket prices would come down but hopefully you'd get about 10,000 more supporters getting season tickets.

Maybe it's because I know lots of Arsenal fans who have been priced out of football that I'm fearing the worst. Who knows. I'd love to have new fans but don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity. I can almost guarantee you that ticket prices will not fall so these extra 10,000 won't be kids from west london/surrey. This Twickenham move is a long shot. Richmond council stops concerts from taking place there so 20 odd games per season is optimistic. This development won't happen for a while so let's see how Tottenham and West Ham fare with their new stadium.
