Mancini sacked

Featured Replies

Fairly good move from City, an upgrade on Mancini in my opinion. Pellegrini has a bone to pick with Mourinho as well - maybe our barren run against City is set to continue.

I don't think we have to worry about Mancini coming here - he hasn't been good enough in the Champions League.

Say who? Doesn't this belong in the rumours section?

even in the 'other teams' section

Or lets just hold a debate on the fact that i might have put it in the wrong section. I hope you both have things planned for the closed season.

I think it's safe to say that nobody is surprised by this news. The guy has been a joke all season, he moans about his players in interviews, he fights with his players, he sulks, he cares more about his hair than his team, he makes stupid subs ( like Benitez ) he's just crap. I wish he wasn't sacked though, City can only improve from here.............well unless they hire Benitez that is.

it must be hard to be a man city manager though considering their training ground is basically in a park with very easy access for cameras and photographers

I'm sure every team has training ground bust ups but because its so easy so sit-in on a man city training session any incident becomes magnified

To a degree but the below from when he was at Inter sums up his style

According to Leggo, Roberto Mancini was sacked as coach of Inter after his own players demanded his exit.

Last night the agent of Mancini revealed that the former Lazio and Fiorentina tactician had been sacked as coach of the Beneamata, and that his replacement would be Jose Mourinho.

There have been a number of theories as to why Mancini was relieved of his duties. Leggo today claims that one of the main reasons that Mancio was sacked was because the majority of the Inter squad demanded it.

A vote was conducted among the players which asked if they wanted the 43-year-old to stay or go, and the result was a unanimous verdict in favour of the latter.

Mancini has had a number of high-profile falling outs with players this season. Adriano, Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all reacted angrily to being substituted in various games during the campaign.

Hernan Crespo blasted his coach in the press for his lack of playing time, while Luis Figo refused to come on as a substitute during the Champions League game with Liverpool, and only a few days ago publicly stated that he would only stay on next season if Mancini left.

It seems that many of the Inter players have now got their wish.

I'm quite surprised, he puts forth Martinez as a 'British' candidate because of the length of time he's been working in England, fair enough, but Pardew? What a joke.

The 'spent 200m' is a bit of a red herring as well, Real were gorging talent at the time and the fact that they paid over the odds for Kaka shouldn't reflect badly on Pellegrini. Florentino Perez was the one making all of the moves, and undermining Pellegrini at the same time by selling players from under him like Robben.

Alonso and Ronaldo have both proven to be worthwhile purchases, and Benzema has hardly flopped, so even if the four players were Pellegrini buys the combined price tag wouldn't be a stick to beat him with.

As for 'won nothing', come on, he led the club to a record points total in the league and would have won it if it weren't for Barca being ridiculous at the time.

I realise Samuel likes to take a contrarian view on things and we're about to be served up a Pellegrini love-in by the press at large, but even so, dismissing his credentials for the sake of making a (correct) point about the lack of upward mobility for home grown managers in England is taking it a bit far.

I was a bit let down by this article too, I normally enjoy Samuel's column but this was wide of the mark.

The man had one season at Madrid and was unlucky to miss out on the title and the only reason they sacked him was because a certain Special One became available (I wonder if they regret sacking Pellegrini after all).

£200m is a lot but let's face it £80m of that was for Ronaldo and he has been sublime for them since he signed and a further £55m was on Kaka who was immense for AC Milan at the time but the Madrid move hasn't worked out for him.

Barca were at the peak of their ability that season and I find it harsh to aim any criticism at Pellegrini for this.

ARGGHHHH!

I hate this morality play that erupts everytime a manager gets sacked quickly.

I think managers should get a fair amount of time to do their job. But Mancini was clearly inadequate. He was clearly in over his head in Champions League, always whining about something, calling out his players. He deserved the axe.

And the hilarious rebuke that Mancini brought Mancity their first title in however many years. No, Mancini didn't do that, Abu Dhabi group and their money did. I'm sure most upper tier managers could've done what Mancini did and proabably more.

I swear people act like just having a single manager for a long time is of itself a virtue. It's not a goddamn marriage.

Completely agree.

He's been there three and half years and bought in probably around the best part of £400m in players and City have 2 trophies to show for their investment and they haven't progressed beyond the group stages of the Champions League in that time either.

I think considering the limp title defense this season by City is reason enough to part ways with Mancini let alone the cup final defeat as well.

They have regressed this season and I think a large portion of that blame has to lie with Mancini.
