Ashley Williams to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Heard this was a done deal, big loss for Swansea but it was about time Arsenal got a decent centre-back. Best of luck to him anyways.

Arsenal had the second best defensive record in the premier league last season with Koscieleny and Metresacker starting and Vermaelan as back up. Their weakness defensively was at RB, DM and GK, so what they are doing signing Ashley Williams I don't quite know. Baffling at best. Yet good for us that they are wasting a decent chunk of their kitty on 'The Gary Cahill' of Swansea.

They obviously see Williams as a step up from Vermaelan who will probably be leaving. I know Vermaelan has been bad this season but he hasn't been bad enough to be replaced by someone like Williams

Knowing Arsenal it will be ALL of their transfer kitty.

Williams and Chico have been a pretty effective defensive duo, but I actually think that Chico was the better of the two.

Not sure if Williams is good enough for Arsenal as anything other than a backup.

Arsenal are weird.

From the outside looking in I'd say Sagna is their rock and Schzesney (sp?) is a good keeper.

Vermaellen (sp?) while his positioning has always been Luiz-like (read: dodgy), started like a house on fire, so I'm surprised to hear that his struggling.

If it's true that Arsenal are struggling to keep players performing to their abilities year in - year out, ultimately the finger of blame has to go to the manager for not keeping them motivated.

Think he will provide decent cover for them, definitely not first team material. Koscielny and Mertesacker have been top notch and are without a doubt the Prems most underrated CB pairing.

I agree, from the few games of them i've watched this season Chico always impressed me more.

Glad Arsenal are signing him, another mediocre player that won't elevate their status in any way.

Sagna hasn't actually been particularly impressive this season; Wenger reinstated him in the lineup on reputation, not form. Methinks his injuries have had a very marked effect on him.

Arsenal really have low standards nowadays. It wasn't all that long ago they had the likes of Henry, Viera, Pires, Lehmann, etc... Now they sign utter tosh.
