Hodgson "joke" row

Looks like our old buddies Kick It Out are back in the press again. Utterly bonkers story that even the "victim" has denounced. People wonder why our players sometimes seem to hate playing for their country... this is probably why. We've literally just qualified for the 2014 World Cup and the media is already hard at work character assassinating everyone from the manager down.

Title edited as not particularly helpful, irony notwithstanding

This sort of thing is becoming a big problem in my opinion. People turning absolutely everything into a race row.

Just last week Sol Campbell tried to start one, about there being no black people on the FA panel. Absolutely ridiculous that he thinks that it should be a criteria for the job. The best people for the job should get it, skin colour is irrelevant. But try telling the likes of John Barnes that, who can barely make it through a sentence without trying to start a race row.

Idiots like him and Kickitout constantly bringing this sh*t up, belittles far more serious cases.

Kickitout, in principal is a fantastic organisation, in reality it's ran by a bunch of idiots.

I cannot believe what i just read in that link. Infact its the exact reason that i stopped reading newspapers years ago. I wonder how many of the players sniggered when they heard it. Lucky J.T wasnt in the squad it would have been morphed into " Give that B%%%% C&&& the ball more.

I was thinking of writing to the head of the Black Sportsman of the year awards and complaining that there are never any white people nominated. Theres a huge devide between outright racism and people abusing the fact of being in minorities.

I still have no idea what he is supposed to have said (and I can't be bothered wading through overblown newspaper articles to find an actual quote), but I'm almost completely certain that Roy Hodgson isn't racist.

What a farce this is turning out to be.

So, let's get this straight. Roy Hodgson tells a joke, then apologises sincerely. The alleged 'victim' goes on record to say that no offence was taken and doesn't know what the fuss is all about.

Surely that's the end of it? The media are blowing this way out of proportion.

A lot of the anti-racist stalwarts are saying pathetic too so think it is just lack of footie stories today.

However I would say I think (whether you think right or wrong) in this day and age pretty daft thing for the England manager to say. Unfortunately for Roy he has to be ultra-careful what he says whoever the audience is.

I don't even care any more.  Every year it gets more absurd, and this isn't isolated to football.  We just live in a culture of faux indignation.

BUT didn't the FA say that ANY racist remark - regardless of the context is an offence.

On that basis, Roy should be disciplined the way JT was.

Come on, seriously?

The whole thing is a joke and its a non-issue. However playing devils advocate, the FA stated that using a racist racist remark regardless of the context is an offense.

They wont do him for him though as they pick their battles.

Your on a wind up right?

point out the racist remark because i don't see it.

Seems the word monkey cannot be used in any context these days so people are going to have to come up with alternatives when they take their kids to the zoo or whatever.

Heard a guy on TalkSport yesterday who works for the black lawyers association (didn't know such a firm existed but no doubt they do some very good work). However he was everything that is bad about society today and why we are in this ridiculous situation we now find ourselves in. It clearly is a Non-story but it was clear this guy is on a mission to make it a story and he won't let it go. It's what he gets up for in the morning and he's loving it.

^ "Monkey" is not in itself a racist remark, you do realise that?

neither was 'golliwog' till someone made it so, it was just a doll and a cartoon figure on a pot of jam and I doubt today's generation would even know what a 'golliwog' looks like.  The entire world has gone mad and so far 'left' of centre you dare not open your mouth before you analyze every word in your thoughts and think, 'I am going to upset anyone, make anyone cry, angry or have them misinterpret what I am actually trying to say, apologise first then actually say it'; maybe sign language should make a comeback...or did I just offend those unfortunate people who are unable to speak

REALLY???

Shall we throw his wife and kids in the local lake aswell for good measure?

Seriously im ashamed to live in an age where its publicly acceptable for people grassing each other up or encouraging the powers that be to reprimand at will. Take the bull by the horns people, oh hold up surely Bull will be perceived to be detrimental to some race some where.

I think everything in the world should now be just called "nnnn", this makes sure nothing can be discriminated against. So, instead of saying "oh look, a cute little monkey" when you at the Zoo, you should say " oh look, a nnnn little nnnn" when your at the nnnn.

Is there a white lawyers association?

Perish the thought that our Judicial system also get accused of being blatantly racist by being as blase to make an association for lawyer of white skin only. Can you imagine the anger at this years Music of Black Origin awards.

You said the N word. Go and stand in the corner. Is corner discriminate?

Depends which corner, and what colour the corner is I suppose.
