I'm hearing a lot more about how he is the best CB in the world, I honestly don't think so at all, I think he is massively overrated and wouldn't even give him the best in the prem, just wanted to get other people's opinions?

Completely agree, i think he's a very good CB but he's not even in the best in the Prem let alone the world. I swear he has made more mistakes just in this one season than Terry has for us in 10. I can only think of one season where Kompany was fantastic and that was in the title winning season.

He probably is one of the best in the world but that's not really saying much considering the lack of proper CB's around at the moment. Defenders like Silva and Barzagli are the best in the world for me, while Kompany is in the same bracket as Pique, Hummels, etc who are good but make far too many mistakes to ever be considered world class. 

Watching the city game and I find myself proven right, really poor defending there. I might make more statements if they come off like that one...

Don't see why that necessarily brings his quality into question. Terry in the CL against Barca springs to mind. Kompany is a quality centre half and also important as a captain to City the way Terry is to us. They are not the same team without him.

He is definitely the best they have and will be missed, but I put that down to how poor their other options are

I think he's been the best CB in the EPL over the last few years, although Terry has taken that mantle back this season.

 

City look a defensive wreck without him there, I think it is the rest of their defence that is overrated.

He losses his head a lot and acts like a baby. He is also very arrogant. I don't think he is as great as some make out. I have seen him have 1 truly good season, their title winning season, that doesn't make you world class.

I think in the title-winning season he was one of the best in the world, he has heart and he's a great leader, but this season has shown he perhaps doesn't do well under pressure. It's been a lackluster season for him and I agree with a previous post that he's perhaps on the Hummels, Pique level, not quite of the highest caliber, on his day he's one of the best, but he perhaps lacks a bit of consistency.

I thought he was quite poor last season to and he regularly gets injured.

He was outstanding last season but has been pretty poor this one. He was terrible against us in both league games, but you could put some of it down to not having a settled partnership

Although I think great CBs play in great partnerships and City haven't nailed his down yet

Kompany was excellent when they won the title but has underwhelmed since. I think if he had a more reliable CB alongside him then we'd see him reach his prior levels. City are basically desperate for the stability that Lescott provided in the title-winning season but Pellegrini clearly doesn't rate him at all.
