Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Serious question to those who don't want Costa, who would you suggest that is a reasonable target?

Suarez - He would cost about £70m and is about as scummy as a footballer can get, not to mention he won't play a game until November

Cavani - Would cost in excess of £50m, has been just as rubbish as Costa this World Cup and played 2 games more. Was good in an average league and has spent a year playing on the wing. Not worth the money.

Falcao - Cost in excess of £50m and isn't even back from an injury that's kept him out for the past 7 months. Massive risk as we don't know if he'll return the same player.

Benzema - Never been massively impressed with him to be honest, wouldn't be an improvement on Costa in my opinion.

Balotelli - Lazy, sulky, average overhyped footballer who is more trouble than he's worth

Anyone else?

Mario Manzukic - average at best

Aubameyamg - unproven

Enner Valencia - unproven

I've said all along we should be looking to sign a striker who doesn't cost the big bucks and isn't well known. Someone like a rossi. I understand they are tough to find but that's what a scouting system is for.

Hope costa proves me and a few others wrong and does the business but people are allowed to have doubts and express them without people saying they are having a pop or not giving him a chance. Good luck to him

Hasn't scored a single goal for us yet, I say cut our loses and offload him as soon as possible.

Was against this transfer, still against. He would be another flop like Torres. I don't think he's ready to play for a big club.

Not sure what constitutes as a big club but Atletico won La liga not Barca or Real and they best us fair and square to reach CL final...and Costa was their big star.

Can't really say that he was playing great against Barca or Real. I remember his great goal against Milan, that's all. He didn't really affect in big games. I know he got injured, but still, I'm against. We all could see it at the world cup, I know Spain was bad as well, but as a striker he must try to make a change. All I remember is his dive, that's all.

He was below par in the world cup. But so has many of our players who should all be pretty good. Schurrle and Haz have been on their club level so far. National team is different to Club team but I get your point. I still think he is the type of striker we need. Strong, a bit nasty, fast and with a strong shot. I don't think we could have got any better striker to be honest. If you look at the players who realistically were available..

Ive said it before and I'll say it again you can not say how good or bad a player is watching them at an International Tournament. A few examples:

- El hadj Diouf burst onto the scene at the 2002 World Cup and moved to Liverpool where he struggled

- Andrey Arshavin made Europe take notice in Euro 2008 and not too long after moved to Arsenal where he struggled

- Van Persie struggled at Euro 2012 but still went on to be the leagues top scorer the following season

- Ronaldo at this years world cup has struggled, playing in a poor team (not too dissimilar to Costa) yet is the World Player of the year

Should I go on?

Oh bore off with the 'big club' bollocks, he is coming from a team that just won la liga and reached a Champions League final knocking us out on the way so he is hardly coming from QPR is he.

Can't wait to see this guy prove everyone wrong.

The people who are doubting him are the people who didn't watch him play last year and watched him play a few games for a dire Spain tournament that he came into off the back of an injury IIRC.

I f**king hate this argument, how the f**k do you know how many times anyone has seen him play??

It's a lazy & rude statement!

I could easily argue that those who are fawning over him are doing so on the back of a YouTube highlights video, but it's an easy cheap shot based on zero knowledge!

Rant over.

Come on Diego!

Exactly.

We are entitled to think he's average and overpriced and I'll conclude that based on watching him all last season.

However he's a Chelsea player now so gets my full support and I hope he moves on to the next level.

I think he will do well. We were good against top 6 teams last year, even without strikers on occasion. What we need is a guy that finishes teams off like Norwich or Sunderland, this guy is a proven scorer, he will sort them out and we are in good shape to win the league. Not sure about the big game performance, I mean he has played in cup finals in Europe and Spain, can't be that bad since he's on the winning side more often that not.

With the link-up of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, we are going to be dangerous.  Anyone coming up against us in the Premier League, FA cup, FL cup, or Champions League should run for their lives. :Connie_threaten:

You really are doom and gloom aren't ya. Did you actually bother to see his goal tally last season? His contributions up front led Atletico to pip not only Barca but Real Madrid (champions of Europe) to the La Liga title.

Yes, he had a bad world cup, but so did many other big teams and big name players. The soaring temperature may have had something to do with it, plus having been practically rushed back from injury and the fact that his entire team played crap. If a striker doesn't have the service and isn't fully fit, you can't really expect much.

Furthermore, the Spanish team tactics were piss poor and their manager is a first class idiot.

I think Costa is exactly what we need, bullish and strong going forward. Not the kind of player who takes a dump in his pants every time he gets to the final third.

I look forward to seeing him prove all the doubters wrong and have a solid debut season, the first of hopefully many in blue.

Amazes me how people can discuss a game so much and still be totally clueless.

We've just signed one of best strikers in the world under the age of 28 for £32m ffs!!! £2m more than United just paid for an 18 year old left back!
